Snuck out to Chester Washington today - 3pm twilight for $28 with cart. Played the blues with a buddy and nice to see any slower groups didn't hesitate to let us play through so we finished well before dark in just around 3 hours.

Fairways are in pretty good shape but far too few people filling their divots. Nice sand in the bunkers but far too few people raking after themselves. The greens are healthy but far too many bumps and length ... and far too few people fixing their ball marks.

In short, the course is in good shape right now but could be SO much better if people took better care of the little things. Tee boxes were good, actually.

CW is a good little track for an afternoon just like this one.

06/03/16 - Overall the course is in very good shape. Tee boxes are good, they could use a little work in the level department but not bad. The fairways are in decent shape for a public and the sand is OK but very playable. Now the greens are in great shape, not beat up and perhaps the best I've seen them in so they're doing their maintenance. For the money I like playing this course, it's a good layout and I think worth the money, especially if you can find a special.

Played day 2 of the LA county 4-ball. Another great event by Mike. Today we had 9- min intervals and waited on 1 shot, never saw held up the group behind us and finished in 4:20 starting at 8:06 on a Sunday. Why can't this happen every day. Everyone on the 1st tee on time. Every group waited for the prior group to hit the green and even with the 2nd hole being a par 3 no waiting.

Now the course. This is a really diverse course with the first 4 hold being flat and open, 5-9 are up and down across a huge wash that has turf. Next is the shallow 10th a par 3. Then up and down hill bending around corners. The course is short but plays much longer and we had it stretched to its max.

The tees had good coverage but were too lush with lots of grass getting in the way. The Kukuya was thick and matted so finding a good lie for the par 3s could be tough. The tees were mostly level although I did have a sprinkler cover in the middle of the teeing area on 16.

The fairways had good coverage but the spongy lies that come with the Kukuya. Several times on hilly lies I had little clumps that caught the club. Nothing bad just annoying. Few divots but that could be in part due to the set up.

The rough was spotty, mixed grass with varying lengths. I had one shot in a grass hole that was diffulicult to play out of.

The fring and green area was overgrown with the grainy grass inconsistently catching shots or shooting them through. This made bouncing it up very hard. The fring was wiry enough that I couldn't putt from even a few feet off the green.

The greens had great coverage, few pitch marks but were very soft and spongy. The speed was slow and they didn't break as much as you would think. But they were consistent and rolled true.

Overall a nice track with a great variety of holes but never in the tournament condition one would hope. If they would firm up the greens, mow the fringe tightest, remake the 10th and 13th greens this would be a really nice course. For now I will keep practicing here, but wouldn't put it in my regular rotation unless you like slow greens.

Played today with the wind; thankfully after the rain came through. Pace of play a blistering 3 1/2 hours -- midday. Thank you all you fair weather golfers it was a fun day of some pretty decent conditions considering the passing rainstorms. Windy conditions were fun. Even after the rain a well placed shot gave a decent roll. Greens are very receptive to aggressive play so fire for the pins! Greens were slowish, but held their line well. Greens in pretty decent shape. Fairways ... what winter conditions? There are no winter conditions, in fact fairways had great coverage, never had a thin lie. Rough is mix of thick grass and some thin lies but still it didn't feel like winter conditions. Bunkers still soaked from rain storm. I would give it a day or two of hotter weather to dry out. By the look of it most if not all bunkers have new sand. Tee boxes are flat and very playable. They rotate the tees to you won't see a lot of wear on the tee boxes. Overall I was very pleased with the conditions. All things considered I would play here again. Course drains very well. Did not encounter many wet spots from sprinklers and most areas that were muddy would be dry very soon. Play here again? I am almost tempted to play here again tomorrow. Conditions are better than average for this time of the year. With daylight savings just around the corner you better believe I will be playing here again.

Played Twilight. Hats off to staff they know their product and how to get the best value for the golfer.

Finished front 9 holes in just under an hour. Played through two singles. Finally hit the wall of players on 11. Then play ground to a halt. No worries I was able to skip around with the cart.

Greens are really bumpy. They run at medium speed. They hold their line only if you hit the ball firmly. Fairways are not green but playable. Dormant is more like it. No thin lies. Sand in bunkers is decent. Rough is thickish and playable. Tee boxes are flat.

Looks as if the last maintenance had some problems. Many of the greens are patchy. A lot of the aeration marks have yet to cover up. I think when it gets warmer conditions should improve.

Played CW on 8/23 got out as the fifth group. Fourth group never showed and the group behind us was extremely slow so it felt like we had the course to ourselves. A very nice buffer between the group in front and behind us.

What we noticed immediately was the condition of the greens, they were damaged badly. We couldn't figure it out. They looked as though they were punched and never recovered. It wasn't until hole 7 that we figured it out. Flocks of birds were on the greens and just destroying it.

Pretty sad because the rest of the course wasn't that bad. Always liked the layout of CW.

I probably won't be coming back for quite some time.

Early day off work so got in 18 at twilight at Chester Washington. Unfortunately we were paired with a nice, yet terribly uneducated at 'speed of golf' etiquette duo. Much lolly gagging and 20 practice swings followed by realignment, then a few more practice swings. We actually just got fed up and joined the group ahead of us at the 11th.

Odd. Some greens looked good and rolled true, while others were downright awful. Punched in places, bumpy, dead patches. But no order to the chaos I could ascertain. Tee boxes were in good shape generally, as were the fairways - plenty of good coverage with consideration to drought issues. Rough its usual mixed bag. Sand was okay - not great, not awful.

Despite the slow play, still was a good time for a $21 round.

Snuck out and played a round today. Teed off around 12 finished by 4pm. No one was in front or behind and we were a fivesome playing behind two tournaments. Pace of play was pretty decent for a mix of low and high handicappers in the group. Greens on holes 1/2/3/8/11 are punched. Holes are filled with sand but really who aerates this time of the year? Wasn't it supposed to be last month? Who am I to judge. I suppose the Super thought it was needed. What they need though are faster greens.

Greens are slow and bumpy. Loads of divots as well. Fixed quite a few every hole when I was waiting for my turn. Tee boxes are flat and level with thick poofy grass. Fairways for the most part have good coverage. Some slopes have thin lies but really not an issue. That is a good thing; ball will roll to where it's flat. Rough is thick, spongy and can be an issue. It was for my second shot from the rough on hole 6.

Sand in bunkers is compacted. No sandy beaches just very smooth with foot prints from folks who never rake their mess. I had one shot behind a foot print and some guy left tracks all over the place in that bunker. I swear all you needed were some sand toys and I could have at least laughed. Instead I had to deal with that .... stuff on more that two occasions.

Checked my GK Lite to see if there was a notice of maintenance. There was none. Kind of disappointing to find greens punched on first few holes. Staff did not mention about the work being done either. I suppose I will wait. It appears the work was done perhaps a week ago.

The real disappointment was I left my range finder in my cart. Darn thing is black and I must have overlooked it. By the time I checked my bag and returned to the cart barn the cart was already cycled into play. I figure 10-15 minutes before I returned to check the cart. My range finder was no where to be found. Major bummer if you ask me. I was rewarded with a pretty funny quip from the cart barn guy, "I should have checked." All the time I was thinking, I know buddy. I don't need to be reminded I did something stupid. I am just trying to find the darn thing. If you don't clear out every cart, then what the heck do you do all day?

Still my fault. Anyone want to suggest a decent range finger? Competitively priced of course.

Played this morning in a great pace of 3 hours. We found that some of the greens on the front side had been recently punched and it did affect putting. Did not see any punching on back nine. But the greens were inconsistent in putting speed, so it was hit/miss on each green. The greens were also soft and holding (not an issue) but those who had played the back 9 were leaving divots (fix them please). The tee boxes were fine/level and no teeing issues with hard soil. Bunkers though wet that early in the AM posed no problems for anyone. Fairways had been recently cut and for the most part were soft and not providing much roll at all. Rough was maybe 1.5 inch along all fairways and was wet and difficult to advance your ball. Customer service was excellent at all levels.
