Played 2-23-15 twilight walking rate of $18 in about four hours joined by a twosome in a cart.Tee boxes were a little long but mostly level. Fairways and rough were on the thin side with not that much of a difference in height. Found one fairway bunker that was in good shape, didnt find any green side bunkers but they looked in good shape. Greens were very soft , very slow, and very bumpy. I think I found where all they pitch marks go to die, I have never seen so many unrepaired pitch marks on every green before. Pro shop staff was very nice and got me out right away.

Walked on as a single on the waiting list, got out in the 7th group off the tee. I didn't know they tee off in the dark here like Los Verdes! I wouldn't have thought this course was quite as compelling, but I do remember it being slow.
However, Chester is in better condition than I remembered when I last played a few years ago. The teeboxes are nice and flat, the fairways are decent, and the greens are running pretty well and not as bumpy as the other muni courses in the vicinity....and the sand in the bunkers looks new and fluffy.
Overall, not a bad experience. Finished in 4.5 hours on a Saturday morning. I could see the later groups were definitely playing slower.

Took advantage of a sweet deal $29.50 for morning golf (teed off at 8:30/9:00a) with another twosome. Finished just after 12pm. PACE of Play was a blistering 3 1/2 hours! Not bad for a weekday golf and the rate was pretty darn good to include the cart as well. Thanks Golfzing.com! Found out later that greens at Chester were sanded. I mean it was like frosting on a donut, it was thickish, and played havoc with ball speed. Towards the back 9 they were raking the greens with a cart and screen so then the greens were fluffy. I can understand what they are trying to do which is speed up the greens. Just wish I had known. Greens were receptive but slow. Sand dressing did funny things to the ball roll as it slowed down where the sand was dense and speed up where sand was sparse. The work though is for the good of the course. If you want fast greens this is what they do to make them harder and speedier. Still pace of play was fast. Tee boxes were flat. Sand in bunkers are stocked with nice white sand. A lot of the changes to the course really add another dimension to it. By placing the bunkers within the traditional landing spots it was... interesting. fairways are in good shape just a few bare spots. Same thing with the rough, it's a mixed bag of thick grass or hard pan. Take your pick. Overall I think the course will turn out well especially if hotter weather will come to the South Bay. At the moment it's been overcast so not a lot of growth is to be expected from their work. Mileage will vary here but the course looks to be shaping up. I would think about playing here again in a few more days after the sanding takes hold.

We saw the maintenance crew watering the cart path on four holes! (Seriously watering the cart path) should look better in like 2-3 weeks but it just seems the greenskeeper is clueless. Will play again but not until they fix the greens

Played today. Finished in under 3 hours playing as a threesome (a single joined our twosome.) Course is looking pretty good considering the really bald parts on some of the greens. Luckily the superintendent made sure the pins were placed away from these spots.

Several greens have bare spots. They were OK smooth but did bounce around if memory serves. My opinion they need patrons that fix divots. Aside from some bald areas around the perimeter of the greens and the bouncing balls I would say the greens are OK. They could be better. Bunkers are well stocked with sand. Fairways are lush. Rough is patchy at best.

You should consider playing here again if anything for the new bunkers in several landing areas. It makes for an interesting round.

Play here again? Yes. In a heartbeat. The greens will only improve from here on out.

We played this morning in 3.5 hours. As the previous review stated "its a work in progress" and the progress has a ways to go. I like the bunker improvements throughout the course (10). The bunkers themselves have great sand in them and are very playable (10). The greens on the front side are in very bad shape (4). Number 2 looks like a bomb went off on it? And wait till you see # 8? # 7 is no longer a temporary, but if they were hoping for improvement, they did not achieve their goal. They are very bumpy, full of old, as well as new divots, not to mention the fungus, that is very obvious. The greens on the back (7) are in much better shape, though still bumpy and in need of mowing. If you are looking/expecting to putt on good greens, think again for at least a few more months (I hope). Fairways (7) and tee boxes (8) were in relatively good shape throughout. But if the superintendent should read this (??) tell your workers when they mow, to please clean up the fairways (full of grass clippings), as well as clean off the clippings on the greens and around the greens. There is no excuse to leave the course in that condition after mowing and have golfers have to play through that kind of mess. I have always liked C W and hope the improvements and investment of time/$$$ pay off, like they have at Los Verdes and Los Amigos. I think you can expect a fast pace of play, if that is what you are seeking, but good conditions are not going to be the norm. Maybe some will not be as critical as I have been, but I expect better than what I got today and hope that is the case the next time I play, which at this rate will be Nov.

Twilight golf at $18 which includes a cart, can you beat that deal when the sun sets around 8:30PM? You would be hard pressed to find a course like that. It's a steal!

Staff is attentive but they are sparse so don't expect a lot of folks to wait on you hand and foot. They get the job done and do it as fast as they can.

Golf course is undergoing a major facelift. Considering this course is one of only a few in the South Bay it's a welcome site for this bargain golfer. It's one of the few munis that you can play in under 4 hours with the play they get. Just keep in mind the course is still a work in process.

Greens are a little on the slow side and soft. There are extending quite a few of them and will need time to heal. 7th green is still temporary -- bad luck with fungus. I really think they need to speed the greens up. Fairways are a little burned out but should return when cooler temperatures return. Rough is thick and penalizing. Tee Boxes are a little chewed up and need to be watered/rotated a little better. Pace of play was fast but as always the group ahead was a little too slow for my taste but we were a twosome running behind a foursome so you had to deal with the wait, especially when it was getting dark.

Overall I like the changes but will respectfully wait a month or so in the hopes the conditions will improve. BTW practice green is now one big large one but also off limits.

Played 5/2/14- even though this is my home course, haven't played here in about 2-3 months. They are doing a lot of work to improve the course. They've either moved bunkers or added new ones on holes 1-5,14,& 18. POP was decent, played in about 4-4.5 hrs. Really don't have a lot of complaints, but the Marshall's should have water barrels on their carts and ride around to the holes and give some to the players. Other than the starter Jason( who is a jerk), don't really have a lot of complaints.

Moron's running course Tournament in front of us- did they tell us that when reservation made? no, it's an "outing". Moron's running course. I've gone out here on Sat @ 5am to be 1st on waiting list as single; I ask groups I join up with how they got early time since nobody was in line. Response: They pay off the pro shop guy. Typical AGC operation. Amercian Golf in 2 words- More Ons! Will never play a county course again.
