In my opinion the best course in the South Bay, and one of the best Muni's I have played anywhere. Tough course, keep it in the fairway, and greens are usually in great shape.

It's funny to read what some folks have to say...First off, El Dorado is a great public course. If you haven't played it, I would suggest you do. It's not for the high hanicapper though. Mid-Low handicaps would enjoy this golf course the most. It's not all that long of a golf course.... but has many mature tree's, that give it a feel of being narrow. The moist a.m. fairways don't give you much roll. Also, at times you'll find that they've let the rough grow up a bit. So, if your off the fairway, it takes a little bit of time to find your ball. This, in turn, would cause the 5-6 hour rounds. When I play out there, it's always in the morning, get there at about 6-6:15 and you'll get out no later then 7:00. Just avoid the weekends(fri,sat,sun). Rounds are very slow during that time. The greens keeper at this course does an awesome job. One of the reason you'll find that the green's get marked up is... yes people don't repair their ball marks, and the the course is moist in the a.m. and usually the best golfers are out there then... hitting and beating up the greens. Don't play there in the rain. The one draw back of this course is the drainage. I think at one point, years ago, El Dorado, was actually a lake. So you'll find that it doesn't drain as well as other courses in Long Beach.

El Do needs golfers help! No one in my 5 some fixed any ball marks , I would find at least 5 or more big holes needing work. This is a great course, true test of golf here! The greens were rolling quick when no craters were in the way. If we as golfers don't take care of the courses , goat tracks will only be left. Hit it in the fairway, fix or replace divot. Ball marks fix yours and others always! Enjoy the game and help others enjoy it also by leaving the course in as good a shape or better than you used it. Pass it on , have a great time on the course next time!

I have to agree,the marshalls here are worthless.I found 2 clubs and the marshall came near our group 2 times and ignored me both times.I finally got his attention as he was filling up the water cooler on #8 and gave him the clubs.Overall the course wasn't bad,they just cut the rough so lots of dead cut grass but the greens were ok.Getting lots of play as Skylinks is closing for renovation.

They are obviously underpaid by American Golf and seem take out their frustrations on the "paying " public. It is a nice layout, but long rounds and poorly marshalled rounds are a very big problem as well.

Always a tough place to score, but particularly so when the rough is up. The only complaint I have is their placement of the tee markers at the front of the tee box, as it makes the course too short. ... Continue »

Always a tough place to score, but particularly so when the rough is up. The only complaint I have is their placement of the tee markers at the front of the tee box, as it makes the course too short. (we just ignore the markers and play from the stones.)
