Played on Saturday afternoon with GKer, DKnight. We used a GN Hot Deal at $33 including cart and GN fee of $3.99. Right now, I wouldn't pay more than this as the course is not in as good of condition as it could be. There is plenty of water and the grasses are growing well. Good coverage almost everywhere. The greens are not very good right now. There is a fungus on most of the greens; most likely due to too much water combined with warm temperatures. It's not horrible, just not as good as I remember them. They appear to be off in color and small rings of fungus could be seen. Still, they rolled medium slow with an occasional bump. Lots of poa annua mixed in with the bent here; it has always been like this. The tees were mostly level with some that needed divot mix, mostly on the par threes. The Bermuda/kikuyu grass fairways and rough were mostly lush, sometimes thin, but almost always giving a good lie. I remember the days when these fairways were hard and dry; not anymore, at least not this day. Somewhat wet and squishy was the feeling I got. It was real easy to take huge divots out of this relatively tough grass. We each visited a bunker and I thought the sand was thin and there were many foot prints that needed raking. Pace of play was basically terrible: 3 hours from the first tee to the tenth; then another two hours and fifteen minutes to finish for a total of 5:15. With so many other choices, I may wait to come back any time soon.

I called ahead to Hansen Sunday morning, 2/21, to make sure there were no tournaments and see how tough it would be to get on as single. No tourney, but the starter said it was pretty busy and only had a couple of singles slots showing between 10:30 and 11:00 — couldn't guarantee they would last. Well, I planned a backup and proceeded anyway. As it was, I arrived right around 10:00 and got inserted into a group of Korean ladies for a 10:18 tee time. Since they mainly spoke in Korean amongst themselves, it wasn't overly sociable for me, but it wasn't required. They were pleasant and they played well. My comments are qualified with the understanding that winter conditions prevail generally. That said, I was very pleased with the overall playing conditions and really had no complaints. Tee boxes generally had good coverage — tight, like the fairways, but good. Some were less than perfectly level, but not off enough to really be an issue. The fairways were tight, of various shades of green and dried grass, but generally provided a good hitting surface with a fair amount of rollout. I saw very little / few actual dirt or hardpan patches anywhere on the fairways. Rough was on the thin and sometimes lumpy side, but generally more playable than punitive. I was in more than my usual quota of bunkers and, while not fluffy, they were suitably playable, groomed, clean and reasonably consistent. I thought the greens were pretty good — fairly quick, on the firm side, minimal ball marks, and ran truer than they looked. Pace of play ended up being about 5:20. I was mentally prepared for a longer round so it didn't bother me much, and because the pace was generally steady, it didn't seem that long. As a pure muni, it's one of my favorites in the LA area. I wasn't disappointed and I'd recommend it before they aerate next month.

Surprised this heavy traffic course hasn't been reviewed since October, but perhaps there wasn't too much excitement to write about. Played the blues today with a friend, paired with another twosome at 8:48am for $40. I find this to be one of the better LA Muni courses, but it's certainly in deep winter condition.

Fairways are very dormant and yellow, but it's only really an aesthetic issue on 90% of the fairways. Lies are generally good so there should be minimal complaints there. Tee boxes are in good shape overall, and the sand is decent (except on hole #2). Rough is maybe an inch or two taller than fairway grass, so no major tweaks required if you're not perfect off the tee.

The greens are actually pretty darn fast but look like they wouldn't be. In some ways, they're like the fairways - they look much worse than they play. Lots of tough pin placements today and more slope than I remembered since last trip to HD in May. Did not hit enough greens to be a good judge of receptiveness sadly, but seemed okay for others.

It's certainly seen better days but HD for the standard rate is still a pretty good place to play. I definitely look forward to some redemption this spring after a rough 18 on the scorecard.

First time playing Hansen Dam on 10/24 with fellow Gker Kviser. The fairways and rough were in good conditions and if anything over watered in some areas. Greens were slow and bumpy. The strangest thing was the maintenance crew hosing down the greens on a packed Saturday. POP was quite slow. We had 1 group in front of us teeing off from the black tees when they should have been on the ladies tees. Bunkers were decent. Not sure if I would play here again for the price we paid. Better deals and conditions to be found in Ventura County. The best part of the course was stopping at Rigos tacos. I would go back for that.

Played here on Saturday, October 24th. Overall, I found the course conditions to be somewhat mediocre. There was good grass coverage from tee to green. Tees were mostly level and not too many divots. Fairways and rough were nice. I think I always had a decent lie. Bunker sand looked a little hard packed, but was really okay to hit from. The greens were bumpier and slower than I remember and that is the biggest issue that I can say about the course. It might not bother me, except we paid almost full rack at $47 to ride and the round took nearly 5 1/2 hours. I guess HD is getting more popular among the LA municipal courses.

730 tee time and there were a lot of folders all ready on the golf course. This is the first time playing this golf course but had heard a lot about it. Couple of buddies play this course in their regular rotation.
To start it is a fun course, wide open and ready to fight back. Fairways are open and a little dry. Tee boxes were in decent shape, a couple of them had some un level lies but there was plenty space to find another sport. Sand was in great shape and consistent from fairway bunker to green side.
Greens were rolling pretty good, not to fast.
A lot of holes can be drive able, but might not be the right play. The back nine requires more of a be in the fairway nine. Due to the increase in trees on the back nine.
Pro shop / Dinner - is fairly expensive. That would be the one downfall.
Great for golf - lots of fun.

Will be going back to play again.

Played 10-13-15 early afternoon on a golfnow deal for $23.49 in 3 hours and 45 minutes as a twosome. Tees were in fair shape mostly level and semi-lush. Fairways were in ok shape with a few dried out areas and other areas that were soft and a little muddy. Rough was a mix of long short and dirt. Sandtraps were in ok shape. Greens were very slow and very bumpy, impossible to keep a putt on line, they were also very soft and had some small bare areas. Course is in decent shape except for the greens.

Greens have healed just fine from the recent punching. Tee boxes here are all pretty darn level and the fairways are fine. Traps are pretty consistent for a muni. Two issues. 1) the amount of standing water in the fairways in places (and on a couple tees) was plain strange. I'm sure they're using recycled water, but the greens staff should really watch out for that kind of waste. Even after noon when the watering had clearly stopped 4-5 hours ago it was present. 2) The greens are so spongy. With the kikuyu surrounding the greens and no real fringes you basically can't run balls onto the greens or play running wedges. Best way around here is to play your yardage to the hole and carry it all the way there. Hansen is a good (albeit less inspired) alternative to Wilson and Harding on a Saturday since it'll take an hour less.

I played here last Friday afternoon, using a GN hot deal, $20 to ride, with a $3.49 fee. As Cthuyen pointed out, look out for potholes in the road as soon as you approach the gate; they are deep and numerous. I was given the option to go out earlier than my 1:24 p.m. tee time. Although GN stated there would be an extra $4.00 charge for riding alone, I was not charged this. Good deal. I make it a point not to question my good fortune unless somebody could lose their job. The course was fairly empty, so I made it through the back nine in just over an hour. The front nine took almost two hours, so the entire pop was about 3.5 hours. Lush conditions from tee to green. The greens were medium slow, but rolled nice and smooth. I saw some greens are getting infiltration of kikuyu, although some greens were edged and the infiltrating grass removed. On the 12th green, I saw a large patch of Bermuda grass in the middle that will need to be dug out. The bunkers had many foot prints, so that could have sucked. Fortunately for me, my bunker visits did not include having to hit out of some size 6 depressions. All told, I would return here, especially for that rate.
