Decided to check this one off the list today. Booked a GN hot deal at 12:24 for $17, which I think is less than the normal walking rate and included a cart. I was hoping to get out earlier and there were openings with twosomes and threesomes going off when I arrived, but the starter said his supervisor behind him wouldn't allow me to go out any other time than my scheduled tee time. Ultimately, they did send me out one group early, as part of a threesome right after several fivesomes of seniors. Gee, thanks! Though we waited a lot, the actual 9-hole pace was reasonable at 2 hours, 15 minutes.

The course was in decent shape. The greens are all but healed from aeration. I could see temporary greens cut on most holes, too, so I'm not sure if they were using those recently in the midst of maintenance. They were soft, slow and a bit bumpy at times, but not bad and not nearly as many unrepaired ball marks as I would have expected at a muni course like this. Tee boxes fine. Fairways mostly pretty lush and green. Some mushy spots throughout and some thin spots here and there, but overall as good as I'd hope for here. Rough more hit and miss with some really thick patches and some bare spots, too. I wasn't in a bunker, so no comments there.

This is a very boring course during the first few holes, but gets a little more interesting from the 4th hole on. Holes 5-7 are fun I thought. It's a solid enough overall course for what it is, but a one and done for me most likely because it's not that close to home and I'm sure it's usually quite busy.

Greens here are TERRIBLE. Looks like the wildlife decided to eat each and every one of these greens. They are potmarked with an uneven surface. Bring your 4x4 balls to ride the course. Fairways are in decent shape. Bunkers still have varying degrees of sand -- from loose to really hard packed. Tee boxes are squishy but flat.

Heat must have taken its toll on the greens here. They are really in poor shape. Perhaps they are fixing to aerate soon. I would hope so given the conditions compared to only a few weeks prior.

Play here again? Not for another few more weeks.

Played here to warm-up for my SCGA One-Day tournament at Los Verdes. The POP was under 2 hours for this 9-hole course. The greens were very slow and took a little of the fun out of my first visit. My second visit is not schedule at this time. Maybe in a year or two. The drive range is down the road and not walkable from the course.

Course playing well right now. Only chewed up tee box is the 8th. Good coverage everywhere else, despite drought. Can't beat it for $8.50 twilight. Greens not fast but average with a few ball marks.

I was down in PV Wednesday afternoon, 8/20, and used the excuse to stop in at Harbor @ 5:00 for a round rather than fight rush hour back to Altadena. There are couple of recent reviews, and there isn't much different, but I'll throw in my take. The large tee boxes were above average in grass coverage and generally level. Where they were less than level, it was subtle and I could work with it. Fairways are generous, green and in nice shape. Rough was fairly consistent and grown in. Given the nature of the Kikuyu, if the ball sat up or the cut was a little shorter in that spot, it might not cost you anything, but if it settled down in places, it could be a tougher rescue. I hit two bunkers and, while more firm than soft, I could make my shots out of them without any issues or surprises. Greens were running medium and were OK. As noted in an earlier review and since this was late in the day, they tend to get subtly bumpy with a fair number of stray marks around, I didn't have any issues but saw at least one other player's putt miss due to a little deflection. Pace was a little slow, but we got the ninth in as light was dimming. All the little observations aside, the impression is of a nice, green course that is well kept up. I would happily drop by to play this course again when given the opportunity, and it was a surprise and a bonus that I paid $8.50 on this day.

Had time this AM for a quick 9 and went to Harbor. Checked in at 10 was on tee @ 10:05 and done in 2:15. Nice. Fairways were in good shape. Cut and providing good lies. Rough was what it is supposed to be - rough, but not to penal. Not in any bunkers so no comments. Tee boxes clean and in good shape. Greens rolled well but were soft, so you were able to go for the flag on all holes (no bumps in the AM like mentioned previously). I give my compliments to the staff, both shop and maintenance at this course.

Played yesterday. Greens are OK. They really respond to a well struck ball but watch out for the bumps, the greens here do tend to tossle the ball on its way to the hole. Fairways are OK. Rough is OK, not penalizing. Sand is OK and thin in places. Tee Boxes are relatively flat. Good for that quick fix to satisfy that golf itch.

Pace of play for 9 holes under 2 hours. One of the fastest rounds after 3pm.

Fairways are well covered and green-ish. Rough is thick and sticky. Bunkers had good/decent sand in them.

Pace of Play POP was bad but hey it's Friday and I had nothing better to do. Photos on my Instagram :D look for Ringworld and join me on my golfing odyssey.

Course is easy to get on as a walk-on. Just had to wait on the holes coming back to the club house (it started on hole 7). Oh well beats working any day.

Harbor has been my recent midweek salvation. For just $8.50 M-Th you can play 9 great twilight holes on a regulation 36. There's nothing individually thrilling about Harbor - most would say it's a bit too easy, but that's not the case for me. I find some holes very challenging (#2, #5, #6, #9), but it is very forgiving off the tee on many of the holes. Currently the course is in very decent shape. It gets a lot of traffic but it's rare to really find an unplayable dirt spot on the fairways. Tee boxes are fine, and the greens are once again in very decent shape after being punched a few weeks back. Only real 'meh' area is the sand - generally very thin and difficult to judge whether to just hit it normal or actually treat it as a bunker shot. PoP is a mixed bag at twilight - I certainly would be wary of coming here on a weekend and playing a 3-hour round. But midweek at present time, if you're teeing off by 5:30 the latest, should have no problem finishing a fun 9 holes at a great price. On a side note was happy to write this review as I broke my own personal best at Harbor tonight by three strokes! 7 over par!
