Played on 03/22/10.It had been about 15yrs since I played Harding.The driving range is what I remember(not good).The starter would not let us check in until 15 mins before tee time,although I tried to check in 30 mins prior.When I did get to check in, the starter charged me wrong and it took him a while to get it right.The funny thing is that the person by the first tee started calling our name like we did something wrong by being late to the first tee because of the check in problem.
The course itself was in pretty good shape.The tee boxes were nice,the fairways good and the greens although a little bumpy,were also in good shape.The one thing I did notice is the ladies really have no advantage off the tee boxes.They are all only 15/20yds in front of the mens.But overall I had a nice day and we joined to very nice people.Enjoy!

Haven't played here in over 3 years as it was always chronically slow, but gave it a shot after I heard bout the boycott since they raised the fees (I'll always pay a little extra if it keeps the schleps away!). True enough, got straight on at 1pm on a Saturday - usual nonsense on the first tee with 3 groups waiting but once we got going it moved along pretty good. Short waits on most holes and longer wait on some 3's but got around as a four in less then 5 hours!

Typical muni conditions throughout - tee boxes a bit scrappy and undulating, fairways a bit brown here and there but generally lush and no real bare lies anywhere. Bunkers fluffy and greens usual muni bumpiness and unrepaired ballmarks but generally good and rolling a decent pace, medium speed about 9-9.5.

Useless trivia - played with the guy who plays Harry Morgan on Dexter - only in LA, huh?

Played on Friday, 8/20/10, 9:00 a.m. tee time. Course was not crowded. Generally, the conditions are good; a little better than average. No severe ball marks on greens, traps were raked, fairways and rough are lush; only a few areas looked beat down, but overall, everything played well. Greens were soft and rolled medium slow. We arrived 15 minutes before our tee time and were sent directly to the tee; no waiting. Pace of play was just over 4 hours.

Incredible! Got to the golf course and there was nobody there! Our foursome walked right to the tee 25 min before our tee time. There were probably not 20 people on the entire course. There was a two some about four ahead of us which we caught, but they never really waited. Looking over at Wilson - same story! When we finished, there was nobody around either?? The place was deserted. Well worth $35 to play in 3 hours with no wait!

Course condition was decent but not great, fairways spotty, greens ok but not great, but puttable. Who cares, I'll take less than perfect to be able to zip around like we did.

Got on right away at Harding as a single at 6 am on 6/6/2010. Course was in pretty good shape all around for a LA city muni. Quite lush. Only course complaint is the blue tee markers were placed on the unlevel parts of the tee boxes. There were flat areas nearby but they weren't being used for tee placement. Early summer golf at Griffith Park means that gnats and other bugs were out in force in the morning. When the sun comes out they go away, but they are quite annoying on the front nine. As far as the layout, this is a short course that should be relatively easy to score on for a low handicap player. However, I do like how it tests your driver and your ability to work the ball in particular. Holes #3, 11, 16 and 17 absolutely demand a fade (for a righty) while holes #4, 8, and 14 encourage a draw. From a pure shotmaking standpoint, the tee shots on these par 4's provide a challenge that even some private courses lack. Execute these drives well, and you should be able to attack the flag.

Played Harding on Saturday (1/16/10), we teed off at 7:30am and finished by 12:00pm. The place was in pretty good shape with the exception of the aerated greens. However, it did not affect the putting game. The Marshalls were really good at ensuring every group kept with the pace. Really enjoyed playing here.

Played Griffith Park (Harding) 4 days ago. I have to say, I'm not sure why people play Wilson when Harding is 95% as challenging and the pace of play is almost always 45 minutes faster. We played on a normal weekday and teed off at 11am. We were in the car driving home at 4.

The place was in pretty good shape with the exception of ground under repair on 3-4 holes, but it never effected play. The strongest points of the day were the design of the holes. Some are wide open and some really need to be thought through. Biggest disappointment was the inconsistency of the sand traps - could never tell how the ball was going to react because some were bare and some were filled.

The range at Griffith leaves a lot to be desired, but for the green fees what can you expect? If you have to play an LA City course, I most definitely recommend Harding. Rancho Park and Wilson are better golf courses (Wilson not by much), but both are unplayable in less than five and a half hours and more likely six.

My handicap is an 11 and I shot 82. I thought that was very fair.
