Played on October 17, 2008, with my buddy Moneysworth and a co-worker and his pal. We were off at 7:40 a.m. with a 7:30 tee time. Pace of play was o.k. and we finished in 4 hours and 35 minutes. The aerated half of the greens were coming back nicely, though they probably need another week or so. Of course by then the other half of the greens will have been aerated. Not the best maintained course around, but I appreciate that they are trying: tees and some fairways were overseeded, and due to nice weather, the seed is coming in nicely. there are some wet spots here and there; mostly, they are staked. Stay away from the trees. The recent winds have caused many small branches, pine needles, and eucalyptus bark to litter the fringes. Makes for tough foraging looking for errant shots.

Played Sat 10/04. They aerated the 1/2 of the greens which works pretty well for us. This was my first experienced with each greens being aerated just the half of them. They place the pins where they have not aerated. Putting was OK. Overall condition of the course is alright. Enjoyed the rain... missed few putts due to rain.

Nice track, poor management, way overcrowded and extremely slow. The key is to play early, or else it will be a 6 hour death march.

Played here on Friday with miguelgolf2007, Aikidomon, and Fear. Course was in nice shape and they have brand new carts! No more pushing the cart up the hill on 18 anymore....

Teed off right on time...round started off slowly....looked like it would take us well over 6 hours, but the pace picked up on the back and we finished in 5:19....quick round on a Friday for Knollwood.

The cart girl, Gabby, was her usual busy, friendly self,....we rarely went more than two or three holes between seeing her...thank you!

Played Sat afternoon. I thought it would be very hot up in the valley but actually it wasn't bad at all. Nice breeze throughout the day. Cart girl stop by several times... cute little girl.

Overall the course is in good shape. Greens are good - medium to slow on certain holes. Bunkers are bit thin.

Played in Big Dog's tournament on Friday 8/1/08. Big Dog and Greenskeeper.Org run a very well organized and fun event. The participants are friendly, and fun was had by all.

I have always liked Knollwood for its variety of holes and variance of degrees of difficulty. The course was in pretty decent shape, though I felt the greens had too many ball marks. The fairways were nicely mowed so decent lies were had in the fairways. The sand quality varied from trap to trap.

All said not bad for a county course.

Played in the Bigdog GK tourney on Friday August 1st. Third time playing this course. This is a shorter course that is narrow. There are trees that border the first 15-30 yds of most of the tee boxes here. You must be able to shape your shots here at Knollwood from the tee depending on what hole you are on (#2, #14, #15 draws work and #10 and #16 a fade would work well).
In my mind #1, #4 and #10 are your money holes here. They are very tough holes and each have a unique toughness about them. If you have a trusty 3 iron or fairway wood that you can keep in play that should be the club of choice on at least 6 tee boxes here at Knollwood.

The course itself was in decent to good shape. The greens were semi-quick and if you were above some of the pins you were in trouble. The sand varies from bunker to bunker and there were not really any terrible spots in the sand. The fairways in most places look like they have been cut recently and are in decent shape. The front nine here is more of a challenge. The greens themselves are small here and you must be accurate with your approach shots. The rough is up in some spots around the fairways and depending which hole you are on can be tough to get out of.

This was a well run tournament for the amount of players involved. The cart girl was around and the pro-shop staff was nice. Bring your own tees if you plan on hitting balls at the range.

Played the course on Friday 6/20/08 with a 7:30AM tee time. Pace of play was a little slow on the front, but we did not wait at all playing the back side, probably due to the extreme high temps that day. Tee boxes and fairways were average with divots and bare spots in areas. Bunker sand is a little thin. Greens are in very good condition; soft and receptive, rolling pretty fast. It's a great course to play in the heat of summer because there is usually a breeze and you can find tree shade on all parts of the course. Cart girl came by 3 or 4 times during the round, and the pro shop staff are friendly and efficient.

Green fees are a good deal but be prepared to play a long round. We played at 3 and made the turn about 3.5 hours later. At one point there were 13 people at the teebox on #6 and we were still wait... Continue »

Green fees are a good deal but be prepared to play a long round. We played at 3 and made the turn about 3.5 hours later. At one point there were 13 people at the teebox on #6 and we were still waiting. Carts are scarce here and there were several that were being pushed back to the cart barn because they died on the course so you have a better chance of getting on during the weekends if you're walking. Course was in good shape though.
