I played in Thebigdog's tournament 5/2. His tournaments are always a lot of fun. Knollwood ( for a public course) has four very challenging holes to start your round. Expect a 5 to 5.5 hour round relax and enjoy. It is worth the money they charge.

Played Big Dog's tournament on 5/2/08. My first tournament. It was a lot of fun. I have always liked to play Knollwood, despite its slow pace of play. Though greens had been recently aerated, they were in pretty decent shape. Knollwood is a challenging course for all levels of players, especially high handicappers like me.

Usually a decent play, the fairways were in good shape. Greens were half punched, making putts very challenging. A very hilly and narrow course in most areas, but a couple of holes really open up.

I played at the BIGDOG's fun outing (2nd time playing) there. I was very impressed the first time around that I wanted to come back again. I was less than impressed this time, but the value of my opinion may be a little biased since the greens were just aerated about two weeks ago. I'm sure they'll be fast and healed in another 3 to 4 weeks. The fairways were nicely cut, I didn't really notice to many bare spot areas. I didn't find any fairway or greenside bunkers, so I can't comment on their consistency. Again, the greens were a little bumpy but are still running pretty fast if your "above the hole"....only advice is to stay below the hole. As far as the pace of play, I don't know if the pace of play is always like this at Knollwood but everytime this being my second time there it took us another 5 1/2 hours to finish on a weekday! I'm sure we were kind of slow because of the tournament, especially people in our group reading the putts from all different angles and still they 3-puttted....it was really funny to watch!

We played on Friday morning before the greenskeeper tournament. We teed off about 5 - 10 minutes after our tee time. Pace of play was reasonable. It took us about 5 hours to play 18. Then we replayed another 9 holes, which took us about 3 hours to play 9. We had to wait on every hole on the last 9 holes.

The greens have not quite recovered from aeration. I couldn't believe that one half of the greens were aerated. If your ball landed on the aerated part of the greens, your ball didn't roll too good until you got off the aerated part. It was still a little too sandy for me. Greens were still a little bumpy in spots.

Bunkers were very hard to hit out of. It seem there wasn't much sand in the bunkers. There was a guy in the group behind us who every time he tried to hit out of the bunker that he would blade his shot and hit our cart.

The fairways were looking a little dry and thin in spots. Since it was a warm day on Friday, the groundkeeper were watering the fairways if there was a gap between the players on the course. Therefore, the fairways were a little mushy on the course for some of the holes.

But overall we like playing here. The first hole is a bit of a challenge, which makes it interesting to play here. We like the price to play here plus it is close to home. No wonder it is soo busy to play here.

Course has been better, but currently under repair. Pace is still a bit slow. Greens were recently punched, so they're pretty bumpy. All in all not bad for the Twilight rate.

Fun layout. Greens are extremely bumpy. Sand quality in the bunkers is poor, like ground up pebbles. Pace at 7am on a weekday was 5+ hours.
