Played yesterday around 1 pm as a threesome. Pace of play good, finished around 5:30pm. Course looked empty after our round. Greens in great shape. Putts rolled relatively quick but true. For me it was hard to judge roll out and speed of greens it was almost as if the speed of greens change on the back 9 compared to front 9. Fairways in good shape. Tee boxes relatively flat. Sand in bunkers well stocked. Temp green on 3. Course was not busy. $27 to play. Decent deal for course conditions I crave. And by the way, I would play here again.

I like Lakewood! Played Sat 3/30 had a 7:40 tee time and teed of at 7:50. The course was in great shape. Greens were smooth and medium speed with very few marks on them. Fairways were in very good shape and the rough was 1 to 2 inches and in good shape. Pace was good for a Saturday, we were 4 with a 5 group in front and behind and after the 3rd hole we never waited to hit, finished in 4hrs 40 mins. The course is not overly challenging but you do have to respect the trouble or your scorecard can get ugly! I wish it wasn't so hard to get out early here because it is one of my favorites! WHEN WILL THEY OPEN THE THIRD HOLE?!? I hate temporary greens!

Glad to read that they're not punching the greens at Lakewood until April as they are just about perfect right now, minus a couple of bare spots here and there. The rest of the course, fairways, rough, and bunkers, are in good winter shape, too. Pleasure to play here on a Sat. morning ($35 walking), 15 min. behind our tee time cuz they put groups out UNDER LIGHTS before dawn ... crazy! POP a bit slow on the front, but it speeded up on the back (4.5 total hrs.). Like the layout here at the Wood, gotta keep in play off the tee as the fairways can be tight with trees up and down both sides. I would play here more often but getting a W/E time is competitive. Recommended. Oh, yeah, #3 is still a temp green ... for now.

This course is probably the hardest course to get out on a weekend if you are a single or anyone on the waiting list. I got to the course around 530, still dark mind you. Was the second single on the list. Did not get called until around 720. Eric, the front desk guy, was cool in giving me range balls for waiting.
Course was in great shape for the time of year. The best part of the course were the greens except for 3 the temp green. Putts rolled fast and true. some tee boxes were very thin, but I like thin lies compared to lushy lies. Other than that the course is one of the better in long beach area and it is a whole lot cheaper than the others.
Maybe need to get there at 430 or 5 next time, or maybe sleep over in the parking lot.

Played Lakewood on the 1st. The two things I always expect from Lakewood is long rounds and greens that get bumpy if you tee off after 8ish. Well both proved to be untrue this time.

We teed off around 7:15 and finished in around 4 hours, the course was pretty empty. The fairways and rough were both in atypical Lakewood condition which is average. Sand was good, perfect amount of sand (at least my preference). Tee boxes were wet, muddy, and lacked grass. I prefer lack of grass (since you tee the ball) over uncut grass but they were disappointing.

The greens, the greens were the worst I have ever seen non-punched Lakewood greens, we were 6th group off and the greens were extremely bumpy and slow. Not sure if because it was a holiday the maintenance staff was off, but the there was a lot of damage around each of the pins.

I had the 1st tee time and the marshal was friendly and helped find our balls in the dark. Probably won't do that again. Wasted 3 holes due to darkness.

The course offered tight fairways and postage stamp greens. Enjoyed the challenges of this course and would definitely return for a mid-morning tee time.

Lakewood, Friday at dawn as a single and was put on the first tee right away ($26 to walk). In a greenside bunker on #1, looked fine, feet felt no hard pan but zowie! had a slab of clay on my wedge afterwards ... oh, well. Nice draw on #2 off the tee, musta hit a sprikler head, in the H2O ... darn. Temp green still on #3 with a cup that could hold a volleyball ... really? Okay, the rest of the round was not so bad but the first few holes are not the best way to showcase this course. Fairways are in very good condition, cut low with good overall coverage. The rough is hit and miss: some patchy areas and gnarly lies popped up on our threesome. Poa greens were at their best, they'd just cut them ... albiet few areas where disease will give you a poor roll, so beware of those pockmarks (#2 was the worse). All together, the course is in decent to good shape and I'd play here again. BTW: hundreds of Coots and Cootcrap by every lake. I hate Coots.

I played Sunday and teed off at about 10:00am. The course is in very acceptable condition from tee to green. Mostly good lies in the fairways, and the rough is reasonably full, but not long or highly punitive. The third hole had a temporary green, but the regular green looks good and should be open soon. The second green was pretty roughed-up, but the rest of the greens had good coverage, but were not cut short so the speed was medium (or slow to medium). Pace of play was fine for late morning Sunday, a little under five hours. A great driving course, and the green fees are very fair.

Played on 10/9. conditions are terrible. greens are bumpy and slow and lots of bare spots. fairways and rough have lots of bare spots. bunkers ok. 1 good thing hole #3 is open but green is nasty. not playing this course for atleast a month, hope in that time it will get better because course layout is good.
