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

Played this morning, what a nice day to be out. Wet grass when we started but didn't last long, perfect weather. I liked the course and the course layout. Three of the four par threes though required the same club off the tee. Other than that there was a good variety of 4's and 5's. Pace of play was good even though they allow fivesomes.
The fairways are generous, but there are enough trees waiting in the wings to make it interesting if you have a wayward driver. Sand traps were well stocked and pretty consistent as far as they looked. Fairways were ok and the rough wasn't very penalizing. The greens were nice, held approach shots well and rolled true and fast. Just a few greens needed some ball marks taken care of. Overall a good golf experience and a good rate. I would like to play this course again. Had a good time with Rddenn and Noobie and friends today.

The course was in good condition today and showed little effects from the rain on Friday. The greens were especially good. They were smooth and on the faster side. I had a couple of poor lies in the rough but the fairways were nice. The bunkers were okay. Teed off around 7:30 am and played in about 4.5 hours. The pace especially picked up on the back nine, with the only wait being on the par 3s. It was a good time playing with a couple of GK'ers.

Lakewood has a reputation of having very slow play so it has been a few years since i played here. Was pleasantly surprised today as pace was decent. finished front 9 in 2 1/2 hours (what normally take at least 3 hours before)... maybe it was the weather being windy today.. or maybe the new manager is making progress in enforcing pace of play. Was talking with the proshop folks and they say they have been keeping an eye on the pace...
Course condition - pretty good. Greens medium to fast - although there are a few holes with inconsistent speed. Some teeing ground a little sloped and uneven..
Overall - good experience today and will certainly come back.

Played Saturday 4/7 w/ 8:24 tee time. Got off at about 8:40 which is acceptable, we had 2 groups ahead of us, was told they belong to the "president's club", the group right ahead of us was behind by as much as 2 holes, the marshal did push the group to catch up (3x), but the group just doesn't care. The marshals should be able to kick groups out of the course after several warning, and to think that this group belongs to some "club" , they should be most aware of course rules to keep up, what is the point of having a special club if they are not setting any examples, might as well ban the club. Also, what is the point of having marshals if the most they can do is bark up a tree. Kudos for the poor marshal, but the management need to set some rules, or just outright not manage the course.

Played this morning before the men's match play. I give this place a bad review due to bad course management. I understand it was raining and I was fine because I came expecting rain. I did not get to finish due to bad irrigation on the course. I understand not giving rain checks if I were to quit because of the rain but I stopped playing because the course was down right unplayable. Tee boxes, fairways, and especially the greens were flooded. I was basically playing in a water hazard the whole round.
I went in because of that and asked if they did anything like a voucher for next time but they just told me they did not give rain checks. I told the pro shop guy I was quitting because it was unplayable and even their men's club guys were saying the same thing, but they still said no. Well Lakewood you lost a customer who was loyal to your course and also a couple of tournaments I was going to plan at the course too.

Got to course at 7:05am on Thursday 12/22 and got on the waiting list as a single I was the third single on the list. I got a med bucket of balls. The whole time I was on the range the I did not hear any one called from the waiting list. So I went out and hit some putts and was keeping a eye on the groups going out I saw group after group go out as 4s and a few 5sm. I noticed it was now 8:45am. So Ive been at the course for 1 hour and 40min and not one person was ever called from the waiting list! I went in and told the starter hey I've been here for all most 2 hours and you have yet to call someone off the waiting list. His reply was I haven't had a chance to call anyone off the the list. Bull sh$t I've seen 4sm go out all morning! So I just decided to leave and but then I thought I'm going to call and speak to the Manager so I called and told the Manager what had happened and her reply was all of LA County course have to ask if it's ok to add a single to your group I know for a fact that he did'nt ask all the groups if its ok to add a single. What sucks is that you can't even tell some of these starters anything because they think they are Gods when in fact they are just dirtybags!

Lakewood always has a special place in my heart. It's one of the few really long golf courses in the LA area offering challenging greens at a great price. Played Wednesday walking and paid only $26 to walk -- great deal. Pace of play was not the fastest but we did manage to finish before the sun went down. Started late (about 20 mins past our tee time). Round around 4 1/2 hours.

Greens in GREAT shape. They roll pretty true, fairly quick. Some thin spots on the greens but nothing too bad. You can even see the sand columns from the previous aeration around each hole on the green. Fairways are lush. Sand in bunkers both fairway and around the greens well stocked. Tees are flat; they rotate the tee locations pretty well, no unnatural wear and tear there.

Only advice is play early. Sun is dropping so fast nowadays very difficult to get a round. We were lucky the temperature dropped b/c it got everybody moving faster. We were a fivesome walking on the heels of a foursome in carts.
