Played GK Match Play with Greg (Caligolfer1031) yesterday. It was a perfect day and the golf conditions here matched the weather -- perfect.

Greens were a bit slow but held their line. Loads of foot prints and cleat marks but that is not the fault of the course, it's the joker running around with track shoes. Greens are perhaps the best I have played in quite a while. Fairways were well covered. They are working on the tee box on 2 and will have a temporary green on 18 for a redesign. Sand in bunkers are well stocked and good mix of fluffy with hard packed underneath. Spoke briefly with Vince the Superintendent and complimented him on his work. This course was a dog with great bones until he came along and fixed her up to what we all knew her to be, a beauty of a course.

Pace of play horrible. Waited on every shot. Ended up being 5 hour round. And my only compliant but if you saw this course you would be playing here too. It's that much worth it considering the proximity to where I live and the conditions and price... definitely a deal worthy of playing.

Played 3/26/16 with the Altadena Golf Club away tournament. We all enjoyed playing this course and it presented challenges for all of us. It was a long round because two clubs were having tournaments. The course is well kept overall. It is not a long course but it definitely will present all golfers with a challenge. The greens were all in great shape, rolled well and generally smooth. The rough here will definitely grab your club and can make things difficult. The course was very green with the recent rains and overall was challenging and fun. The driving range, you hit off of the grass which is always a bonus. The restaurant/bar was friendly, fast, and every thing I had was fantastic - from snacks, food, and some brews!

Returned to Los Amigos on Sat and had a fun day with a buddy and a cool twosome we were paired up with. Course was crazy crowded - mix of rain today and Super Bowl next weekend. Round ended up taking a little over five hours.

From the back tees, course in very dormant condition. As my friend said, it's often better to play from the short rough with the fairways so dry and often bare. But it's not awful. The tee boxes are in pretty rough shape though, however sand remains really good.

Greens varied a bit from hole to hole - definitely in better shape on the back 9. Held shots well, rolled true, but a few too many unrepaired ball marks. Overall though pretty good shape there.

Over $50 for greens fee and cart is a bit much in current condition - get an online deal or use that money elsewhere right now. They had this place in top shape not long ago so let's hope they get it back there soon as I do think this is a great course for the 12-22 handicapper to get some confidence, but not feel it's being handed to them.

Played Los Amigos when wifey gave me a free pass for today. Course is showing winter conditions.

Greens rolling pretty true and fairly quick. Fairways is a mix of green and dormant grass; loads of thin lies for season which is typical and to be expected. Just hit down on the ball. Green complexes in good shape. Several greens on front 9 show a severe burn from fuel I think. It's a thin line that stripes several of the greens. They really don't affect putting just look funny when you reach the green. One green on back has a bare spot and is in the process of being repaired.

My personal opinion of the current conditions of the course are typical of what's to be expected for a course that doesn't overseed. It's winter and lies will be thin. But what they have currently I am pleased with the current product. Hit it low and expect a lot of roll.

Back to Los Amigos for a Sunday round (back tees) with a $38 GolfNow deal w/cart at just before noon. Hot day but no cart girl all day long for any refreshments.

The slow slide at Los Amigos continues. A year or so ago this place had really been turned around, and while it's still miles better than 3 years ago, the drought and paying less attention to detail is showing a bit.

Fairways are as dried out as I've sen them in a long time. So many burned out areas. And the rough is far from consistent and quite shaggy. The sand is good but the worst of it is the tee boxes. Brown here, sandy there, uneven everywhere. It seems like the good conditions of before brought many new players but they stopped keeping up with the demands of the traffic.

The greens were okay - better on the front 9 than the back. Coverage is okay but many ball marks and bumps. However they did seem to hold shots well and weren't rolling poorly on the good areas. Many different sizes and shapes to the Los Amigos greens so adjust accordingly to stay beneath the cup.

In summary, Los Amigos is still not bad - it remains a good, inexpensive option on a somewhat shorter course to snatch a low score (which I did not do today), but the days of it rivaling Rio Hondo down the street in terms of good condition are currently suspended. I don't doubt that it will improve again in the coming year.

Played today in a nice POP of 4 hours. Customer service excellent. Course conditions were very poor. Fairways were over watered, muddy and provided no roll. Tee boxes were inconsistent and chewed up. Sand traps were OK. Very little rough to speak of but that was wet. Greens were an absolute mess (if they aerated it did not work). Divots (old/new) on every green. Not mowed. Bumpy and some looked like they had a fungus? I won't be going back until I read a better review and higher rating than I will be giving today. I like playing here but not under these conditions.

No friends at Los Amigos! Not the starter, who although the back was empty made me wait for 5 groups to tee off, including walking seniors with umbrellas and giant visors. Not the greenskeeper, slow, bumpy and soft, would have been better off putting on silly putty. Not the non-existent cart girl, or the lack of drinking water on the course. This place came back for a while, now sinking back to what it was.....

Played today in a nice pace of 3 hours. Had to leave the 3 some I was paired with as one of them thought he was a Pro. Could hit it a mile but could do nothing else and blamed everyone in the group on his lack of ability. After 9 holes I moved on w/o them. Glad the course was open or I would have just left. As stated previous, course is in decent shape. Fairways clean and providing good lies. Sand traps good. Tee boxes were OK vs previously mentioned. Yes greens looked bad (many many old ball marks and they did effect putting) and putted slow, even on downhill putts (I bet they are punching soon). Customer service excellent. Good course to play early to be done early and easy to walk.

Los Amigos on Labor Day for a $43 online fee with a 10:56 tee time. Paired with a very nice couple (who knew and enjoyed Greenskeeper.org ) from MdR. Course remains in good condition but the greens are certainly getting more beat up than they have been since they've fixed up Los Amigos so much. Wear and tear either showing or they're preparing to reseed or something and not paying as much attention. Plenty of lazy golfers too not fixing ball marks. Fairways still in nice shape but you will find some dry patches, but mostly where you won't find your ball much anyway. Tee boxes on many holes were pretty played out, and a few were tough to get the tee in easily. Rough was a mixed bag of variations. The sand traps were once again in very nice, fluffy condition. POP was pretty slow behind a fivesome in no particular hurry, with a long wait on the par 3 17th. We finished in just over five hours on a very hot day. No frills on the carts, no cart girls, and select water fountains but no stations with proper ice water. As for the layout, more fun on back 9, very flat and not particularly long, but there is some tree trouble to get into before the water hazards on the back 9. As for my game, a bizarre reenactment of my Sat round at Alondra - great front 9 (5 over) followed by a comically and utterly indecipherable 15 over on the back for a 91. On Sat 6 over on front, 13 over on back for a 91, too. I need help. Or the Eye of the Tiger or something ...
