You may know Los Amigos as that scruffy stray dog of a golf course from years back. Well a couple of years ago it was adopted, given all of it's shots, sent to the groomer and took some obedience classes. It was made better, prettier, and friendlier.

Honestly, I couldn't say much bad about the course except that the parking lots shares itself with the next door Juvenal Court, hole number 2 is too close to the houses on the left. And holes 4,5,6 feel like basically the same hole repeated.

Even though it has become everything it could be - it's not a destination. It's still just a lovable mutt. Great for walkers - even the on-line tee times are in walking rates - something I appreciate.

On our 7/8 visit, the greens were scored (bumpy) and three tee boxes were being completely redone. My friend and I looked at each other and said "What was wrong with those tee boxes?". Is there real reason for this or are they just putting a sweater and nail polish on our mutt?

Trying to find a 'new' nearby course for Friday play, I gave Los Amigos a go this morning, 6am tee time (booked as a single, $29 walking rate, thx LA Co.) with a PoP right at 4 hrs. Recent reviews here on GK are favorable but my experience was kinda sub-par and I doubt I'll return anytime soon. Condition-wise, the course is LA Co. run so it is what it is: Kikuyu fairways and Poa greens. No mowers on the greens today so the speed was inconsistent and some were downright uneven/bumpy. Unconditioned bunkers, too, so they were unraked, lumpy, and damp. Both greens and bunkers looked like they had the potential to be very nice, maybe I just picked a bad day to play here. Course very flat and walkable, no rough to speak of, the only defense (besides a couple of H2O hazards) are the mature trees that line the parallel running fairways. Many blue tee perm markers are like 20 feet away from someone's back yard or a boundary fence which I'm not used to and didn't like much. Low course/slope rating so it's not a difficult course by any means, pretty much benign [except the par 3, 17th plays all of 220 yds w/water left and trees right, albeit no bunkers.] All in all, probably a one-and-done for me, sorry ... at least as a single.

Los Amigos still in pretty nice shape. Unfortunately I got stuck as a single behind a fivesome the entire back 9, but still finished in under 5 hours on a Sunday. Got a good online deal for $36.

Tee boxes probably biggest complaint as a few are uneven and many are tough to set your tee as the ground is very hard. Other than that though, fairways and greens are nice ... greens not fast by any means, but very shot receptive. Rough isn't too thick so you can play out of it very easily. Sand was of good quality throughout.

Best part of the whole day was breaking 90 for the second time ever on a legit course - even with a dumb three-putt double bogey on the 18th. Shot 86 and loved it.

I've been playing here at Los Amigos early weekday mornings for the past few weeks. I've been the first player off each time I've played. The course is set up to be fun for all skill levels. If you are a better/longer player like myself not every hole on the course can be bullied with driver. You need to be able to work the ball both ways or take an iron and play to the corners of the dog legs. I like to practice here for that reason, as it forces me to be more creative with shot selection. The course is relatively flat so you won't find many uneven lies. However, you can get in a fair amount of trouble with trees and sporadic lateral hazards here and there if your swing gets loose. The greens were recently mown down and verticut. They have some speed to them now which is something to keep in mind especially when putting from above many of the hole locations. My only complaint is that they put folks out on the back to play 9 holes. Generally this isn't a problem if the players making the turn are given priority. I've been unlucky to get stuck behind the same group (twice now) which refuses to allow me to play thru or join them. It's a little frustrating when you tee off at 515am to beat the crowds. A little bit of marshaling would make for smoother play, but I can probably write that about 90% of courses, so don't let it take away from the review!

This is the first time I have parlayed Los Amigos. This was a 2 day event and the organizer asked that the pins be placed in challenging positions and they definitely were.
The course is very flat and on the short side. However most of the holes that play under 400 yards are severe dog legs. This is a placement control course. I hit some good shots and some fair shots but was in jail more often than I would like to admit.
The layout is good and challenging but one that requires that you know the start lines and the contours of the greens for Saturday the greens were firm and fast. Putts from above the hole would not stop. Several putts I barely touched ran 6' by. I was in a few traps and they were amazing. The sand was soft, white and plentiful. Be prepared that these are not the normal firm sand bunkers but soft silica sand that equities a real blast shot to get the right distance.
The greens were severely contoured and deceptive in their break. The only real short coming to the course were the tee boxes which were heavily sloped. Most of the tees were in the far back on the boxes and almost dropped off the back.

I will definitely be back to play again if only to try and regain my pride.

I played Los Amigos GC last Sunday 12:52 tee time. We booked online and paid $38 with the booking fee including a cart. We arrived on time, but the course had ran out of carts. This is usually due to poor management, having lots of carts in need of repair or abnormally high cart use by customers. Whatever it was, it made us wait an extra 25 minutes to get a cart. We were not offered any discount or anything. We were told we could go on the course without a cart and they would bring us one. No thanks.

So we get going and a single joins us. The course is really flat but it was in decent shape. No issues with tee box quality, or fairways. The greens were healthy but a bit slow, seemed they might be getting ready for aeration.

The course played very slow as there were people waiting on each hole, sometimes two groups. Normally this will clear after a few holes, but this was all day long. There were small groups and large groups (5 someones) so I think matching people up to make all 4 somes and 5 somes might have helped, but I would guess overall the course just plays slow when it is busy.

Not the best experience, but its an easy course to play or walk and seems to be in good shape.

We had our club tournament there a week ago and were delayed about 45 minutes. Don't know whether this was due to overbooking or whether the golfers were just slow. The pace of play was very slow all day, and there was no marshal on the course at all. The course has come a long way, and it is much more enjoyable to play. Hats off to Irene in the pro shop!! Her very pleasing personality and wonderful customer service made up for the long wait.

Was pleasantly surprised with conditioning. Everything was very playable and more or less in at least above average muni shape. Fairways were pretty solid all around with a few patches here and there that were a bit questionable (end of the 16th before the lake comes to mind). Greens were good with some divot damage. They were rolling pretty well and the slopes were quite a challenge especially with the pins sticking out of the sides of some of them. Tee boxes were hit and miss. Some were a bit torn up and #12 was rock hard. Bunkers were amazing for a muni. Really good sand.
POP was fantastic (4:15) and for the weekend walking price ($36.50) it is really good value.
