Out early at Montebello, which is the only time to play here, as later tee times can be brutal as to pace of play. Staff friendly and accommodating. Also nice to see they have not inflated the prices like so many other courses. It is appreciated, that the course remains affordable.

Condition was about what I expected. Greens rolled pretty well, but were inconsistent both as to speed and firmness. Fairways had decent dormant coverage. Bunkers were thin. Need some sand, at least in the bunkers I found. A few tee boxes were a bit beat up, but for the most part, playable.

I enjoy playing here, but I have to admit that there are a number of par 4 holes which are now no longer reachable in regulation. (Time to move it forward maybe ? ) Most of the holes are still manageable, but it does put a bit of pressure to not make mistakes on those holes. One of the better "walking" courses, which as I age, is appreciated.

Played here Saturday 8/14/21 1:30pm walked for $42. It was a tough walk, a lot of hills and some elevation and from the blue tees the course is long. Pace was good until we hit the first par 3 hole 5 and there were 2 groups on every hole after that. The round took almost 6 hours. Note, always better to play in the mornings in SoCal. Fairways were typical flat and plenty of dry brown spots. Tee boxes were dry and muddy. Greens were decent but sometimes slow and sometimes fast. Not much break when putting. Staff is friendly. Funny note, there is a sign when you enter stating that outside food and drink is illegal but we all know everyone brings their own. For $42 weekend, this course is nice and worth it as long as you're done in 4-4.5 hours.

Played this AM. Course is in what I would describe as decent shape. The tee boxes are all fine. Fairways (not all of them) have good green grass coverage and you will find good lies and roll. But there are still some bare areas that I doubt they will ever have grass on. These areas are not playable (IMO) and should just be permanent GUR, again just my opinion. Traps are still bad and I would be shocked if they ever fix them. Very little rough and what there is is playable. Greens are still the best part of this course and they are at this time in very good shape. Excellent customer service. Found an outside food area but the restaurant appears closed. But on hole # 6 if you go into the Home 2 hotel you can get great food to go. And that is were the only bathroom on the front 9 is located. Inside the hotel (very odd). They are also allowing back 9 play (like today) and it does slow things down. After starting on # 10 and playing at a good pace, its frustrating to run into this problem. And yes I let them know that in the shop (maybe it will help). Check in is at a desk at the front door and they still not accepting cash. And they charge you the patron the 3% for using your CC. Masks at check in and cart pick up only. Driving range and putting greens are all open.

Nice to return to Montebello. I've always enjoyed playing here. While not the most interesting course, it provides a decent test and some nice holes. Because I am not too bright and still play the back tees, a number of the par 4 holes are now just too log for me to reach in regulation. Someday, I will smarten up and move up.. Not a lot to add to the most recent reviews. Agree that the greens are the best part of the course now. I also totally agree that switching nines is not a good decision.

While I found the "old" #9 a lot of fun to play, it is not a good finishing hole.

Played my GK Cup match yesterday at Montebello with t8fish after reading some positive reviews of late. I've only played here a handful of times but have always found the layout pretty fun and conditions, while not optimal, absolutely serviceable.

Yesterday was no different. First off, in terms of routing, they've switched the nines which makes for a very disappointing finish on the old #9 hole, but this is ultimately prime first world problems. We played from the blue tees and I rode for a $45 greens fee, which is absolutely worth it. Good mixture of holes here.

Conditions are decent but top marks go to the greens. Although there are way too many ball marks from lazy golfers, the surfaces are nice and well-maintained and the speeds are consistent. Rolls felt pretty true and the greens were very receptive to good approach shots.

Fairways were in pretty good shape but you're not getting out of here without finding some thin lies here and there, and also depending on which hole and which part of the fairways or rough you find. Speaking of the rough, mixed bag as per usual round these parts, but some of it off the greens was nice and thick, other areas thin and hardpan.

Bunkers, as previously experienced, remain absolutely abysmal here. Nothing but hard dirt and occasionally some standing water in a few of them. There appears to be no effort put forth whatsoever to rectify this issue, so just understand before you go that you will be hitting chips from the dirt all afternoon. Tee boxes were good on some holes, bad on others.

No frills carts with no GPS or any other amenities, but they do go in reverse when necessary, so that's a plus. Driving range is across the street and adequate, but there was no cart service all afternoon and only a small, makeshift snack stand near the updated turn transitioning from the old #18 to the old #1. It works well enough.

POP was a bit haphazard but nothing too terrible to write more about. Still, despite all the negatives, there are enough good things about this course to make me want to come back another day.

My buddies and I played this course today, hearing, Montebello CC, may be sold and shutdown for Top Golf... Well, the course was in good shape, of course some typical bare spots, but not bad. The tee boxes where fairly level and not too many divot damage. Fairways where firm and fast, giving good roll out. The rough was cut to a playable level, some parts some deep rough, when you hit too far off the fairways. Bunkers are concrete hard (no take) which is common with many tracks right now. Greens rolled really nice, medium speed... I hope they don't t close, like what has been rumored...

Out today on a cool and even some light rain on a strange April day? Found the course to be in relatively good shape. No issues with tee boxes. Fairways had decent coverage and look good compared to in the past. Bunkers will (IMO) never be decent until they come in and replace all the sand in every one of them (not holding my breath). Some light rough around the outside of fairways/greens but nothing to difficult to play out of. Greens were chipping/putting very nicely with decent speed. Great service at check in. Other than the weather an enjoyable round of golf.

Played here on Saturday (4/10) morning and was pleasantly surprised. Greens are fully healed from the last aeration and rolling smooth (I never blame divots on the greenskeepers). The speed is not quite there yet but the next cut will make them fast. Fairways are also looking really nice and many of the dead spots are healing though there are a few here and there but not nearly as many as they had before. Bunkers are still tough to negotiate but they have been dragged by heavy rakes leaving the bad ones with about 1 inch of playability which is better but still not great. All in all this was well worth the money and in solid condition for a full 18 or some quick twilight. Get off the 60 and out of traffic and sneak in some holes! Enjoy

Played a twilight round today. $21 walking. Course has aerated the greens 2 weeks ago and they still show the punching. So they were slow and bumpy. Maybe another 2 weeks they will be in good shape? Fairways all had good coverage (some of the best I have seen) and while they provided little roll they did give good lies. Bunkers are still nothing to rave about. Tee boxes all had good coverage. Check in was fast and easy. Restaurant has outdoor and indoor dining. Great customer service from all staff members encountered.
