Played Rancho Vista Sat 4/10, tournament. Service good. 8*16 start. 4:10 pace. Glad to say that the course itself is back to pre-covid. Rakes in traps & divot fixer on carts.

The course is in really good condition. Ted Robinson designed is resortish as it's not the toughest layout. That said it's a lot of fun.

The Tee boxes are great, level & plenty of grass cut down where it should be.
Fairways are lush, beautiful carpet to hit from.
Rough, slightly higher than fairway & many desert "waste areas" with desert growth that can swallow a ball.
Bunkers, bright white sand, easy to hit out of (unless like a couple of my pards you skull!)
Greens- Med speed, rolled nice except for the occasional ball mark like everywhere.

Most comfortable carts ever. Kinda strange, bluetooth speakers but no GPS.

I didn't see a cart girl. Restaurant open & doing booming biz outdoor & limited indoor. Indoor tables are probably 10 feet apart. Good grub, cold brews & fast service.

Highly recommend, drive to/from SFV isn't great, but everything else was.

Tee time was supposed to be 11:00 but frost delayed us 45 minutes.
The day was real nice in blue skies and very little wind.
Our pace was 4 hours and 15 minutes. It was a great pace for the matches.

The greens were slower than last weekend- I’m guessing that they couldn’t mow because of the frost, but it was good.
The teeing grounds were somewhat un-level by 6% and almost not an issue.
The fairways were good and not so wet- thank goodness!
The bunkers were also good with nice sand- both fairway/green-side.

All in all a good playing condition for a $40 round.

Beverage cart came around a few times and the staff were accommodating.

Played Saturday, 9/5, at around 7:00 am. Went off as a single and joined another single on the third or fourth hole. We finished in 3.5 hours practicing putting and chipping on occasion. Hit a 5some on the last three holes or it would have been faster. I had a later tee time and asked to get out earlier because of the heat. The starter was very accommodating getting me out quickly at an open spot.

First time playing the course and I was impressed with the conditions. Notwithstanding the extreme heat we have had in the later summer, the course was in good to very good condition. It was very wet because of the heat wave so there was no roll. The rough was low enough to find one's ball and high enough to be a factor. I was in one bunker and the sand was a nice compacted hitting surface. It was also groomed. The greens were interesting. Decent speed, medium, and I had to try to read them carefully to determine the break, not always successfully. They were large and challenging.

The course was relatively short, seeming to play shorter than its approximately 6300 yards from the blue tees. They have changed the colors from the scorecard on this site, so the former white is now the blues and there is an orange tee as the back tee. Most tees seemed to me to be elevated as are the greens. I thought that contributed to it seeming to play shorter than the listed yardage, even without much roll in the fairways. It was a forgiving layout also, with mounds on each side of the fairway to catch wayward balls and redirect them somewhat toward the fairway.

Usual LA County covid measures although the putting green and chipping areas were open. The service was slow in the cafe for whatever reason. To go only, through a window at the bar, I waited for a soda before I left but finally went without as the line never moved while I was there.

I look forward to playing it again.

Played Rancho Vista this morning 08/14 with a 6:10 tee time. We played from the back tees! The course was in great shape. The greens rolled true and were quick. Obviously playing that early they were not as fast as when they dry up. Some spots on the course we’re really wet which is understandable due to this heat wave. Definitely a fun course that is in great shape. The carts are equipped with blue tooth speaker so that was a nice treat to listen to music throughout the round. Ate at the restaurant after our round and the steak breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich are out of this world. Great day on the Links with JJ and Rim!!

Played Friday, August 7, 2020. $47 riding (senior rate) at 9:20. As a twosome, we were waiting on most every shot. Despite the 10 minute tee times, there were many groups who just seemed very slow. Course conditions were not as good as the last time I played here.

Greens: They putted at a medium, fast speed; possibly slower than I remember them. They were also quite soft and there were plenty of ball marks to fix and a lot of poorly repaired ball marks that may never heal without some effort. I fixed a couple by pulling out the dead grass and knitting the edges into the center. Other than that, they did look lush, there were no badly damaged areas, and they rolled predictably.

Fairways and rough: Lots of good turf to hit from everywhere. Easy to take a huge divot, if that's your usual shot. However, many areas were a little too wet. Most likely the course is trying to stay ahead of any hot weather that could hit. The rough was not too penal and it was fairly easy to hit from it. Lots of undulating terrain usually left you with a ball above or below your feet.

Bunkers: There was plentiful, light-colored sand in all the bunkers. It was fairly easy to hit from the one I was in on Hole 13 greenside.

Tees: They all looked nice and level (we played the blue tees). Easy to place a tee in the ground and not too many divots.

Range: We shared a small bucket ($4) of balls. It's an all grass range and the area in which the teeing ground was set up was beat down pretty bad. Might have been nice to get some good turf, but I used a tee for most of my shots anyway.

Pace of play: It was right at 4 hours after skipping a slow group at Hole 8. Almost two groups per tee by the time we got to Hole 2. We ended up skipping Holes 7 and 8 ( a short par 3 and a short par 4). From Hole 7 tee, I could see the group on 8 tee was super slow; despite having an open hole ahead of them they were just talking and not teeing off. The pace did pick up a little for us after we skipped ahead to Hole 9. As we were coming down 18 fairway, we could see the groups behind just teeing off on 17. They combined themselves into a large group of six. Ugh! That would have been horrible to be behind that! My guess is that it would have been closer to 5 hours had we not skipped two holes.

Overall, the starter and course personnel were friendly and the check in process was quick and easy. We were able to get breakfast burritos (about $10/each) from the snack bar before our round. They were large and we could have split one. They have a good salsa to go with it. Kudos to the cart barn, as I left my shoes in the back of the cart (Jeez, senior moment). Came back the next day and got them from the proshop lost and found.

Saturday, the 27th was a very windy day in the 90s.
Not much to add but the greens were mowed lower and it was very nice and smooth. Hard to tell how much faster it is compared to my previous post but we were all guarded and trying to stay bellow the hole and I think that's a good thing about smooth greens.
The course was protecting from the heat (I suspect) as some of the fairways were over watered and very soft. that was not good playability wise. Everything else stays the same and good. The staff are always great- two thumbs up.

Clear skies and mid 90s temps with typical winds of 20's and 30's mph breeze represented the Antelope Valley on Friday the 8th and Saturday the 9th during my opening play days. The local courses had opened with mask on during transactions for check ins, but not during play. Single rider on their debut of brand new Yamaha carts equipped with USB plugs for phones and Bluetooth speaker access. No GPS. No sand bottles. Restaurant/bar- to go only. Beverage cart came around many times. Restrooms open. No jugs of water for drinking. On the golf course, there are no rakes, cups upside down and flagsticks are permanently affixed on the cup. The roughs were mowed pretty even all through out the course, however, they were up about 4-5' tall making it a clear factor to get out of and you'd have to pay attention to where the ball finishes as more times than not the balls are not visible until you are pretty much over the ball. Making a fairway positioning a much desired outcome. The fairways are saturated with a lot of water and mushy at times. Some spots on a few fairways were roped around (GUR) looking like patchy growth- as soft as they were, it's probably a good idea for them to protect it from dying completely. But the over all many of the other fairways were in good shape. The bunkers were in great shape, however, without any rakes, some people think they don't have to do anything to it after play- I wish everyone would get the notion of smoothing it out with their feet. The teeing grounds were nice and lush. The greens were thick, lush, and spongy. It is easy to see foot marks- needless to say that the greens were very receptive which is not its typical conditioning. Also because of it being soft, it did not roll true in many cases. The course wasn't at it's best at all even though it looks nice and green. But being it's my first couple of days of play from a while like many, I was happy to have been able to get on and play. Looking forward to see how good the course can turn things around for better conditioning.

Weather was coming in right from the beginning with almost a 3 club wind sometimes 1, a very tough day to make good scores. Rain came in from #1 through #6 where the wind gusted most.

Fairways were in great shape with a few unfilled deep divots (annoying), other than that it was good.
Teeing Grounds were lush and had plenty of grass coverage on level grounds.
Bunkers had plenty of sand in good conditions however, a couple of them had new sand and fluffy compared to most other I was in.
The roughs were thick and 3 inches high and some were not an issue at all but with good grass coverage.
The greens had been verti-cut: we’ve heard 4 times per green with hopes of making it even as they had let the greens grow into a spongy surface. The verti-cut trimmed the side growth but did not gain popularity among the men’s club players stating untrue rolls and i can attest to a few I’ve had that should have broken on a normal putting surface.

The staff are always good here, always accommodating to meet everyone’s needs as much as possible.

All in all the course is in great shape and a fun course to play.

I want to add that a little weather keeps many away from playing golf, but for me and some of us, we take take advantage of it as there aren’t as many players on the course making it a real pleasant round without waiting on any hole. Love it!

I played here yesterday, Saturday, December 7. It was a cloudy day here, but the rest of Southern California seemed to be getting some rain. The course was in good shape overall, but due to the recent rains it was cart path only. Much of the lower portions of the course seem to a part of the nearby storm drain system and keeping carts off the swampy areas helps a lot. My buddy and I had GroupGolfer vouchers, $35/each riding. The course was uncrowded, almost empty in fact. We were sent off early, so that's a big plus in my book.

Greens were nice. They were soft and rolled at a medium fast pace. Some poa annua was visible near the end of the round, but putts rolled true. I fixed a couple of ball marks here and there, but nothing terrible.

Fairways and rough were moderately lush. Some greenside rough and on slopes seemed to be very thick and long (Hole 12, notably). You really had to keep an eye on your shots if they were headed to the rough as they could easily be lost. The fairways were very good to hit from. Lots of divots which tells me folks aren't taking the bottle of mix out with them.

Tees were generally good. We played the white tees and although it was mostly flat, some did have uneven ground.

We stopped for a beer at the turn (nice IPA from the local brewery) and later had lunch at the bar. It's a good burger, but I think it was around $15 with fries.

This is a good course and I like to play here often, especially with a discount. In fact, I don't think I have played here without one. Next discount, I will be back.
