I played yesterday, for the first time, using a GroupGolfer deal. I’d wanted to play here for such a long time and finally decided to go even with the predicted high winds. Fortunately, the weather was near perfect with strong breezes only on the last 3 or 4 holes.

Check in was easy and I was told I could start whenever I was ready. A threesome ahead of me asked me to join which was perfect as it was all foursomes ahead of us. I was so glad that I wouldn’t be waiting on every hole!

Despite my lousy play, I enjoyed the course a lot. Visually it was really pretty with lots of desertscape along most of the holes. The fairways were in very good condition. All were completely green, but several were CPO as the turf was still a little thin. The fairways are all quite narrow so, being CPO wasn’t any problem. The tee boxes were level and lush, but most were in need of mowing. I was in only one bunker. The sand was damp but clean and plentiful. The rough was just plain nasty- long, deep, thick and sticky…. and I was in it in all but about 2 holes. The greens were firm and and a little bumpy from recent punching. The speed was very inconsistent from one to another so that was a bit frustrating.

I would like very much to play here again. If I can get a good deal during good weather, it would definitely be worth the drive.

Played on Friday morning, 9-20-2019, with a couple of buddies. Two of us used GroupGolfer vouchers for about $34 riding. Not a bad deal. We had a 7:28 tee time and pro shop told us to just go when ready. Yeah! Lush conditions overall. We played the blues; all nice and level with the exception of Hole 16. Thick rough was somewhat penalizing at times throughout the course. Fairways were great to hit from; like a firm mat with a good cushion of turf which was easy to hit from and take a good divot. I did not see a lot of roll out on most drives. I usually hit a low tee shot and normally I get something, but not so much this time. The greens were great. Soft and medium fast. Faster than the last couple of courses I played recently, so that was nice. Another guy on the practice green said they were a little slower than normal. No beverage cart, but the bar area had a good selection of food and beverages. The weather was nice. If you can avoid any windy days, it's a good time to get there and play.

We got in a half hour early, our tee time is at 7:30am; sunny and a very comfortable temps but it only lasted less than an hour then it became humid though the heat was tolerable through the day. $52 to ride with a bucket of 30 balls. Wasn't crowded and the pace moved on pretty good, we thought, then some wait time occurred around the 8th hole and then a few other holes so the pace was 4:05, which was very acceptable. The greens were a pleasure to putt on. Not wet. Not bumpy, but smooth. Not slow- but a medium fast speed. Although it was on the soft side and very receptive to a point that approaches spins back from mid irons(?) Their bunkers have some very nice well prepared sand in it. I mean it's a real nice well prepared sand, yes, sir! Still not something I would intentionally get into, but it was very good and I notice the same look/quality throughout the course. The fairways were closely mowed and are in good condition- not a whole lot of roll out- just some, but it does not plug nor mud on the ball. Most if not all divots are filled with sand (good job for re-filling them, guys!). But, you'll still see some spots over watered and some spots yellowing on the outside of normal playing areas but they're not dead. I think if this is its worst in the tail end of summer, this course have done a great job keeping the public course in its good playing conditions. The teeing grounds are level and not chewed up. The beverage cart came around a couple of times though we didn't need anything. The pro shop staff were all very accommodating. The bar/restaurant staff were happy to serve. It was a good experience that day at Rancho Vista GC.

The air was nice and cool that morning, and there was a light breeze that got up to about 12-15 miles an hour. The day would continue to be a clear warm day that would get up to low 90s. It was a perfect day for golf.

It was a busy day and there were a lot of people already waiting and warming up to tee off. Our round took 4 and a half hours. Knowing this would be happening we took our time and just made sure we were right on position- not pushing nor lagging- just right.

The current course conditions are very good. The greens were at medium speed but rolled smooth. The fairways were cut low and not soggy nor hard. The fairway bunkers and green side bunkers had ample prepared sand. The immediate rough areas weren’t very thick but some outer roughs can be real trouble. The teeing grounds were good (tough to find broken tees lol)

Staff and services were good and the check in went smoothly.

What a good time that was!

course is in very nice shape. tee boxes are a little shaggy and traps are inconsistent (some have new sand others have grainy hard pack). customer service was excellent and the cart girl came around 3 times. as this course has no marshals pace of play is an issue. they allow fivesomes and sometimes sixsomes. we played behind a foursome and twosome that didn't understand golf etiquette and made for a very slow day.

I played here both last Saturday and Sunday, using a couple of vouchers from GroupGolfer.com. It was $34/each round to ride after 10:00 a.m.

I played here both last Saturday and Sunday, using a couple of vouchers from GroupGolfer.com. It was $34/each round to ride after 10:00 a.m.

It was pleasant weather both days. There was no wind and the air temperature was right around 60 degrees. Good customer service from the pro shop and I got out right away each day.

Greens: Fast and smooth; rolling at least 10-11. There are lots of contours on the greens here and a consistent break towards the desert floor. The greens were also on the firm side and very few ball marks were seen; however, good shots seemed to hold nicely.

Fairways: Nice coverage throughout the course. Some areas were tight lies, maybe even a little on the thin side. I used plenty of mix provided in the cart to fill many divots all over the course.

Rough: Pretty much the same as the fairways but cut a little longer. Most of the time the grass would hold your ball as if it were on a tee. Yes, please! On the other hand, there are areas of the rough that can be just hard pan or dirt, but not too many of those.

Tees: Mostly level and lush on the white tees. I never had an issue but I'm sure there are those areas that need some maintenance. I just did not notice any.

Sand: The bunkers I saw were all very nice with clean, white sand. I did have trouble on Sunday getting out of one of the pothole bunkers on hole 11. The sand in the front-right bunker was thin and my technique was not quite right.


Pace of play was 2 hours and 40 minutes Saturday, when I played as a single. Sunday, our foursome needed 4 hours and 30 minutes.

I highly recommend this high desert golf course. When you can get a discount, go for it!

12/28 cold morning start frost delays teed off 9:40ish still in the high 30s and never got up past high 40s with winds towards the end of front nine 20mph wich were on and off the rest of the day.. 4 hour round. What I really want to let everyone know is to echo the previous reviewer about the greens.. wow!! Pretty amazingly smooth true and all that about good greens. Yes there were some fresh ball marks but I suspect it is from the guys ahead who weren’t able to fix them because of some frost. Otherwise it would have been supper nice. The fairways were nice, I wasn’t in any bunkers but they look okay and with sand. The teeing grounds were good. All in all, I’d give this little course a nice A+ for playability and conditioning. Such a pleasure to play it because of the way the golf course cares for it. FYI: the practice putting green were damaged by a broken pipe (around Thanksgiving) that runs the waterfall on the 18th green- new pipe went in and the green was recreated, however that north end section is still closed to regrow the grass. Pro shop guys and restaurant staff were nice. $65ish to ride... maybe $55 week day. Someone paid for me so I'm not sure.

Group golfer deal for $34, can’t beat the price for this course. Pro shop staff extremely friendly, checkin was easy. We came with two foursomes, POP was under 4 hours, tee boxes, fairways, rough, lush. The greens were fantastic, rolled true, hardly any ball marks and I know about the greens because I had 40.....yes 40 putts. I really like this course, the rough is rough and you will be penalized if you are in it, but the landing areas are generous. No gimmicky kykui green weed grass either. I will definitely be back and I recommend the course.

The staff and the beverage cart were good and did their normal services as they pleased the patrons and guests.

It’s almost been a month since they’ve aerated the greens with the new process- looks like a big rounded cut but the core was left in- no holes. Then they’ve sanded the greens heavily. But as of today, the have not cut the greens low enough to make it smooth nor roll fast- the greens are wobbly and bumpy. One of our guys said, not too, too, bad, then retracted and said, not good either- which was more accurate descriptor. The fairways were a little on a soggy side. A number of fairways were reseeded and it’s cart paths only on those holes: #1, 9, 10, 15, & 17 (check the pro shop for accuracy of those holes). So those fairways are a
Bit hairy, but they’re coming around. I’m guessing in a week or so, they’ll be cutting.

The bunkers were fine, they had new fine sand in it. The teeing grounds were good and lush- some were also reseeded. The rough is up! ...and they’re lush- I hope they cut it soon. I’ll give it a couple of weeks before it gets good again.

The driving range is mats only on Monday through Wednesday and on soggy wet muddy grass on Thursdays through Sunday. Actually, I’d wait about another four weeks before I play it again.
