Played Valley with a friend this morning, first off the tee a little before 7:00. Finished in just under 3:00. Not much to add to Ron's review from his round yesterday, although I'd contend the greens are much faster than medium speed. Putts will get away from you very quickly if you're not careful. The greens are the best conditioned part of the course. Tee boxes decent, fairways and rough very thin, fairway bunkers are not good and greenside bunkers are excellent. When included in the Forelinx membership, worth playing but otherwise I'd have a hard time advising anyone to spend their money on either course right now. The food in the snack bar is very good. I had a breakfast burrito after finishing Valley and it was delicious.

Played 11-07-15 first out joined by another single, playing in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Tee boxes were in good shape mostly level and semi-lush. Fairways and rough are the same out here very thin and brown except for 9 and 18 which they water so they look good from the club house. Fairway bunkers were thin and hard, while greenside bunker had much better sand and were very playable. Greens were in descent shape, a little bumpy and rolling medium speed.

Played the Blues (6469/72.4/139) in 3H as a 2some with Chuck this A.M. using the Forelinx prepaid Membership. The weather was overcast & in the 40's when I teed off and was in the low 50's when I finished. This course would be challenging to walk, fairly hilly. The layout on the front is a little quirky for my taste, multiple par 4's that are layup holes. I like the layout on the back better. Several holes have severe elevation changes. This is a course that forces you to hit shorter clubs on 4-5 different par 4 tees because of either tightness or hazards that require you to hit it no farther than "X" distance. The course overall was in better condition than I experienced 2 weeks ago, especially the greens. The tees were in very good shape, usually lush with most divots already filled in. Several could use leveling. The fairways were hit and miss. Overall, they are thin, with extreme amounts of roll. Starting around the 150, they were a combination of thin and almost lush in places. The rough around the fairways was thin. Getting the ball to stop on a hilly course was a constant challenge, because on hilly holes your ball can take a slope and go ? The rough around the greens was fairly lush but mowed down and was usually good to chip out of. The fairway bunkers were like waste bunkers, hard packed but Okay to play out of. The green side bunkers were excellent, nicely maintained with good quality sand. The greens were much better than 2 weeks ago, they were excellent! Smooth, putted medium fast, firm but held approach shots well. While there are numerous excellent golf holes on the Valley, they are canceled out by several quirky ones when I rate the design in my mind. Excellent clubhouse and the customer service from everyone I encountered was exemplary. Recommended = Yes, if you are willing to put up with mediocre fairways & rough.

Double dipped at Robinson Ranch today with my Forelinx membership. Played Valley first with a 7:00 a.m. tee time. They got me started a little early and I played by myself as the first person off the tee. Total POP was two hours, 33 minutes. It was a beautiful morning. It was my first time here and I absolutely loved the layout.

Conditions are severe and mixed, with selective watering drought survival efforts in full force. The greens show a surprising amount of visual evidence of aeration (from September, IIRC), but it didn't affect my putts at all and the greens were smooth and fast. I'm pretty sure these were the fastest greens I've played in several months. They accepted shots pretty well, but I wouldn't call them soft. All in all the greens are the best conditioned part of the course. Fairways are mixed but mostly bad, very thin many places and bare dirt in others. There is some decent fairway grass on some holes. Rough conditions are the same as the fairways, maybe just a little better. Greenside bunkers were good but fairway bunkers were terrible, with lots of rocks and looked like waste bunkers, although they had rakes in them. Tee boxes are being watered and are decent/good.

Despite the middling conditions, I loved this course. I had no idea the layout was this fun and so beautiful. I saw a lot of wildlife – a deer, a ton of quail, etc. The early morning sunlight led to fantastic photo opportunities. Played the Blues (6469/72.4/139) in 3H this P.M. using the Forelinx prepaid Membership. Played 9 as a single, then was joined on the back by Ron, a RR member. The weather was partly cloudy in the 70's. Everything was set up beforehand and I was on the 1st tee shortly after checking in. 1st time playing this course in 6 years. The front has multiple par 4's that are layup holes, too many in my opinion. For that reason, I like the course layout on the back better than the front because it only has 1 par 4 like that. This course would be challenging to walk, fairly hilly. Several holes have severe elevation changes. This is a course that forces you to hit shorter clubs on 4-5 different par 4 tees because of either tightness or hazards that require you to hit it no farther than "X" distance. The condition extremes were not as bad as the Mountain course, but the same things that were good on the Mountain were also good here... The tees, greens and green side traps were all above average, just not as good overall as the Mountain. And the fairways, rough and fairway bunkers were all below average, just not as bad overall as the Mountain. The tees were in very good shape, usually lush with most divots already filled in. Several could use leveling however. The fairways were more hit and miss. I was told they water 9 & 18 fairways to keep them green for wedding backdrops... and those 2 holes are lush from tee to green. The rest of the fairways I was told they only water them from 150 yards and in. So from the tee to the 150 marker, they are very thin, with extreme amounts of roll. Starting around the 150, they were a combination of thin and almost lush in places. The rough around the greens was fairly lush but mowed down and was usually good to chip out of. The greens were good to putt on and are probably 95% recovered from aeration 3+ weeks ago. Occasionally bumpy, putted medium speed, firm but held approach shots well. Excellent clubhouse and the customer service from everyone I encountered was exemplary. Overall, the conditions were better than I expected based on prior reviews. While there are numerous excellent golf holes on the Valley, they are canceled out by several quirky ones when I rate the design in my mind. However, I look forward to playing here again because it's a very challenging course (hence the 139 slope from the Blues), even if the layout is not my cup of tea.

Played today with a group. First time in 5 years playing this course. I've heard that this course has been dry for the last couple of years. And that has kept me away.

Greens rolled pretty well. Fast and firm. If you want your shot to hold, you needed to spin the ball. You needed to play some shots smart, or you were going to see the ball rolling off the green.

The fairway. The first 9 holes was decent, considering the dry condition. But still had bare spots. The back 9 was not that good. 17 and 18th was worse. Had many times hitting off dirt in the middle of the fairway. The rough was the same. I just thought more bare spots were on the rough.

Sand was pretty good. Had good amount of sand on the holes that I was in.

Customer service was great. People were nice and very organized. Cart girl came around almost every 3-5 holes. And there were plenty of water jugs around the course. Needed that with the 100+ degree heat.

I will think of coming back to play. Course condition need to improve for the price.

Played Robinson Ranch Valley course on Thursday and could not have come away more disappointed. The overall feel of the course for me was EXTREMELY DRY AND DYING. While the greens are in typical top condition, and the sand in the bunkers is still top quality, the tee up to green experience was awful. This has always been one of my favorite places to play, especially the Valley Course, as their service and facilities have consistently delivered a 'Club' experience. However, in my opinion most places on the course the green grass has been sucked dry, and in numerous areas that 'dry' has become a caked and dead waste like area. The tee boxes are level and well positioned for all levels of golfer, but they too seem to me to be very close to being lost. As this course has almost always delivered a 'Five Star' experience for me from a 'service and conditions standpoint, I was genuinely SHOCKED at the drop off in quality.

Personally, I wouldn't play this course again right now for free, literally, and anyone considering RR should research carefully the most current reviews to give them a reasonable expectation as to what they can expect. Having played this same morning at Rancho Vista GC up in Lancaster (the high desert 25 mins away) I was STUNNED at the drop off in conditions. Rancho Vista, in spite of being stuck in the High Desert climate and squeezed by water restrictions, could not have been more impressively GREEN AND LUSH, in spite of the drought, while RR gave my brother and I the 'feeling' that if a match was to fall the whole course would be instantly engulfed due to the extremely dry and parched conditions. The Robinson Ranch experience was extremely disappointing to say the least.

Staff was excellent as usual and they seem to very welcoming to all the guest.

Greens and tee box are green and well maintained.. everything else is let go. fairways bare and mostly like hitting off hard pan. and as previous reviewers mentioned, you get penalized on some good shots that seem to run off the fairways.

it might be awhile before considering a return to this once upper tier course.

I want so badly to love this track as it is a real challenger, but so many factors keep me from reaching that level. I'm sure much of my displeasure stems from my own game, but I also don't feel like I was hitting the ball badly at all today, but the rewards for that simply weren't there.

Yes, probably 60% of the fairways are brown, showing signs of being punched near the green complexes, and restricting most to hardpan second shots. Unfortunately that also means that when you hit a good shot, it rolls for days, and often into very penalizing, unplayable situations. Had quite a few good shots also roll into the sand traps, but luckily the sand was very good.

The rough is a burned out mess. Tee boxes and greens were very good - no complaints there whatsoever. Some tough greens to read for sure, and running pretty fast as well, but the groundsmen really need to de-PGA the pin placements. Big greens don't need pins less than 5 feet from the apron when you have to clear a dried out creek from 165 yards away.

I suppose the layout, while cool, would feel more fair if I was a better golfer, but this Valley course, if you have no GPS, would be a nightmare. Very narrow, always trees in way of best lines, and simply blind approaches at every turn.

I want to love it. I really do. Maybe I will when I'm a 10 handicap. But until then, it's not really for me. Luckily we got a deal (think it was underpar.com) for $89 for two so worth that for the experience. Will say tee box view on 17 is pretty awesome. And staff was great. Could use a few more water stations as well with the heat out there.
