Played Trump National yesterday 7/21/20. The course was immaculate. The greens were fast and true roll. Tee Boxes were well manicured. With COVID-19 going on the customer service was lacking understandable. You had to wait and get a ride to the driving range and there was not enough golf carts to go around with many people taking out there own cart. We didn’t get our cart till 5 minutes before tee time. Other than that the course was outstanding and I will definitely be going back!!!

played trump 7/21 midmorning in cool but sunny weather. much of the customer service is gone, with no valet nor bag service, and the usual chatty starter who gives a lot of advice wasn't there. carts were only available 15 minutes before your tee time, so you had to hoof it up to the range if you got there early and they only give you about 20 balls. kind of stingy if you ask me. check in was managed with stickers on the floor and large plexiglass in front of the cashiers with signs everywhere saying to wear masks and keep distance near the clubhouse.

course itself was in very good condition, better than last time i played as it as it wasn't as wet. tee boxes were level and in good condition from the blues. always challenging as requires a straight tee shot here, right or left as you probably will be in some scrub and lose your ball. green approaches are bunkered well. fairways lush and full with good lies. rough was grown up a bit so if it sat down you would be penalized. fringes were well maintained, and greens ran well, very fast toward the ocean and slow back up the other way. bunkers were thinner with less sand than i remember. anyway still a nice day out there with great views.

Great shape. Greens rolled well. Fairways had no spots. Customer service was excellent as usual. Great to see some of the old guard still there as well.

Played 2/19/20 @ 710am with the bounce back coupon they gave out in November. Conditions are top notch right now! Tee boxes level with only a couple uneven ones- I can't recall which ones. The fairways are like carpet and just a little fuzzy- not tightly mown. The rough was really juicy and balls had a tendency to sink down- balls were a little hard to advance. Sand traps were great with some being packed down due to being watered. The greens were medium to fast- probably around 9-10. The greens were not holding shots well due to a combination of undulation and pin placements. Customer service was great from the pro shop, the starter and the cart girl. I recommend playing here right now because the conditions are borderline immaculate! Oh, and the GPS touts that it was voted one of the best conditioned courses in Southern California by Greenskeeper.org

Drove up from Orange County yesterday to play, took a little over an hour to get there and same coming back. I hadn't played here in a few years and was excited to come back for the views and course conditions. Starting with the customer service that you would expect at a course for this price I was pretty disappointed. It doesn't take much to keep me happy from a check in point of view but customer service was rough. Next the layout, tee boxes and scorecard do not match up. We were looking for a challenge and tipped it out to find that multiple tee boxes that used to be there are not there and the scorecard needs updating. The course layout and flow really doesn't make much sense and the cart path routing is really poor. There is hardly a hole where you don't park your cart and walk back up a hill 50-100 yards to get to the back tees. There are par 5s that should be par 4s and par 4s that should be par 5s, really no rhyme or reason to the way they have this course playing, from the tips at least. As far as conditioning of the course goes, it was about what you'd expect. Very nice greens, quick with alot of undulation. Fairways, tee boxes, and rough were in good shape. Bunkers were a little hit or miss, not quite what I'd expect from a course in this price range but not horrible. Got on for 100 dollars which I feel is a pretty fair price. I wouldn't come back and pay over 150 mainly for my dislike of the layout and distance to get to the course from OC, but it was fun to see the views and putt on some nice greens.

Great day at Trump National. Spectacular views that never gets old. Politics aside, this is a nice high end LA course worth a special occasion visit. Great customer service from valet guys to beautiful hostess and friendly cart area guys and food and beverage staff. Worth the splurge especially since I took my brother out for his bday. Greens were smooth running toward ocean at 11 and away from ocean at 8! Layout is fun Pete Dye with super tight fairways and penal hazards on both sides of fairways. Accuracy is ultra premium. Rough, fairways and traps all in great shape. I forgot to mention this when I wrote my review last night. Trump National proudly displays that they won Greenskeeper.org Best Los Angeles Playing Conditions on their website and golf cart Gps as an advertisement!

Played today for the the first time since the Ocean Trails days. What a spectacular day and course conditions. I don't really have much to add because I concur with the previous reviews since August...conditions continue to be immaculate. Golf staff (outside of pro shop) are excellent and really contributed to the experience. Travel time and cost are legit restrictions, but course conditions, ocean views and fun playing partners made this a round I won't soon forget.

Played here yesterday using and Underpar certificate with free same day replay. It was our first time to ever play this course. It is an hour drive from the OC but close to a 2 hour drive back to the OC. Upon arrival you are greeted by very helpful and friendly staff. Your bags are tagged in placed in the carts according to your tee time. You are given a small sack of range balls to warm up. Range was grass but the range had a limited amount of bays and we had to wait for other golfers to finish their warm ups. Course conditions are very good except for some of the greenside bunkers. Some of the sand were compacted and not fluffy and your club could not get under the ball. Greens were tricky to read some were lightning fast and some were slow. Fairways were lush and if hit your ball would continue to roll. It seems that you had to hit fairways away from the ocean or your ball rolled towards ocean side. Rough was a good height, enough that you can still see your ball but you still had to hit it hard to get out of it. The best part of the course were the spectacular views. 1st round POP was slightly over 4 hours, 2nd round was 4 hours. If you do decide to eat lunch at the clubhouse expect to spend $30 for a sandwich, drink and tip per person. Would I play here again, maybe. I still prefer playing the high end courses in Palm Springs, more economically priced.

How to say a place is great, and yet I left with a sour taste in my mouth and no intent to ever play there again?

Service staff such as starter, concessions, bag drop, were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Cannot take anything away from the course conditions, as the grounds staff has that place as consistent as you could ever ask for. A beautiful course with beautiful views makes it easy to understand why the rates are what they are.

With all the great things I just listed, things were off from the arrival. Intimidating enough traveling through Ranchos Palos Verdes to get there; this round was a rare splurge, and it took some extra hours to make sure I could cover the round, so the moment of paying for the round is slightly tense in general. I was told the round would cost 150 (twilight) over the phone, so I was super excited to get a great deal. When I was there to pay however, the rate had spiked to 175. Ignoring the automatic additional taxes that made my total 188, it then becomes a bit embarrassing to even ask why the rate is up.. playing there should supposedly mean “I’m not worried about the extra 25 bucks” but hey, that’s a big deal. Their explanation was some sort of sliding rate where they decide to change it day of... has anyone ever heard of this? Just felt cheated as soon as I walked in the door, despite how nice everyone outside the golf shop was.

And finally, it is a tough lay out. I’m a 12.1, so there’s still a decent lack of nuance to my game, but even shots that should find a safe lie could be brutal side hills or in one of many bunkers or low drain areas.. topography leaves no forgiveness or room. The layout is what it is, but after being in such a beautiful setting all day, still left upset after getting knocked around by the course all day. This is obviously a test for the better golfer with the patented penal Pete Dye design, so if you’re someone who needs to keep the golf budget under control, and want to HAVE FUN while also getting challenged, this might not be the best place. If Golf has a blank check signed by you, and you don’t care where the ball goes as you stare at the ocean, you’ll love it!
