They have started the renovation at the course. Currently tee boxes on 12; 13; 14 are under construction and temporary tees are in use. They are doing the back 9 first then will begin work on front 9 with bunker changes coming on 6 and 7. According to some it appears they want the work finished by December of this year. And yes the rates are currently the same as the have been.

Played yesterday as single at 10:52 after a small tournament. A local in the group advised me that the course is getting a 2 million dollar face lift. The tricky greens are not changing. Most of the work will be on the tee boxes. Laser leveling them and adding more tees forward. He also mentioned that allot of bunkers will be changing to speed up play(TY God). Some will be removed, others will be moving. All will be getting new sand. Also noted that some cart paths will be removed and or relocated (they are trashed anyway). All this will be done 2 holes at a time until finished next year. I personal witnessed grading stakes, surveyors and some heavy equipment showing up. I love this course and it sounds like the improvements will be a fine addition. As far as conditions for the round, Greens rolling a little slow but a test for getting the line as usual. Fairways a little dry and bare in spots. Muddy on approach areas. Tees were in fair shape and it was nice to play them with the original layout before they change. Bunkers were poor. 3/4" of sand then hard dirt/clay under that. Wont miss those. If you love the old Los V, Then you better play it be fore all this goes down.

Walked on Monday morning as a single and was on the first tee in 20 minutes. POP good for LV, 4:20. Course in the best shape I've seen in a decade ... the rough is actually existent in many areas which means you have to put the ball in the right place. There is fairway definition, too. Greens rolling true with only a few ball marks here and there. Kudos to the head GKer.

It takes a brave (and patient) soul to play LV in the afternoon, or mid morning for that matter. Just extremely slow ... no sense of POP by most ... would like to see management push a program to keep rounds under 5 hours, if that's even possible. That's why I'll 'do what it takes' to play early (be at the window at 5am). Course continues to be in decent muni condition, greens not always rolling true which means they'll probably punch them soon. Again, play early or play slow at LV.

played last weekend/twilight. The greens were in pretty good shape, smooth and med-fast. Fairway decent with some bare/damaged spots. Did not go into the bunkers but from what i see, they are well stocked (although some with diff texture sand).
We were given free carts probably in anticipation of a very SLOW round. 3 hours to finish 9, and on top of the 30 min delay in teeing off. Proshop was pleasant to deal with and upfront on the delay. They have a 2 level driving range and big putting green so plenty of room to warm up. If you can put up with the waiting on every hole, it is quite an enjoyable course to play.

Just finished playing a round at LV. Course is in great shape, greens are perfect and fairways are mainly lush and firm. Great sunny day with a marvellous Catalina Islands view.
The only disappointment is on the fivesome policy. I love LV but allowing fivesome is something that kills and slows your game.
Pace of play 4h30 min teeing off at 6,45am playing front nine as a threesome and the back nine as a fivesome (marshall wanted the twosome behind to join us).

Kudos to the new head Greenskeeper at LV, his efforts are making a huge difference. I see grass growing in places that haven't had grass for years and there is even some fairway definition here and there. Poa greens are at their finest, quick and true but holding everything. Bunkers and tee boxes need some work but that's in the future plan. Still the slowest rounds in LA county (see previous post) by far. Played Sunday AM in 4:50! But get this: we only had 3 in our group and there was nobody on the waiting list ... we went out as a 3 ball. Really.

Teed off on time last Saturday morning early (got lucky with the tee time). The greens were in very good shape without many divots, maybe cause it was the morning. Great ocean view on some of the holes, just awesome for $35 to walk. Pace of play was actually very good (4.5 hours) except maybe the 17th hole. Only flaw(?) was the inconsistency in the bunkers. Some were very nice and fluffy but some had no sand, ie 18th greenside bunker.

But all in all, always enjoyable to play with good company, and the price and scenery is just icing on the cake.

Played 6/24 as part of a tournament. With a late morning tee time, it took us 6 1/2 hours to play 18. This is just awful to play a round. In addition our group started about 45 minutes after our scheduled tee times. We had to wait on every hole. The par 3 holes had a least two sometimes three groups waiting to tee off. There were no signs or marshals on the par 3 holes to try to wave the next group up.

The tee boxes were decent as well as the greens. Some of the tee boxes were not level. There were unrepaired ball marks on the greens but it's not the groundskeeper's fault. The greens I noticed in the afternoon tend to roll a little fast. Other times the greens were slow. The sand traps were just awful. Hardly any sand in them. You have to pretend like you are hitting out of a dirt trap. If you play your regular bunker shot, you will not get out of the bunker.

The fairways were in my opinion were just so-so. There were average coverage of grass on most of the fairways for muni course. But there were lots of areas on the fairways which were dry patches or just dirt. I have played here before and it seems the management is not keeping up the course like they used to.

There is no GPS in the carts. Yes the ocean views on holes #2, #11, #15, #16 are amazing. On a clear day you can see Catalina. But I just don't think it is worth the time and patience to play here. The management here just seems to get as many groups out as possible. It is almost impossible to get a morning tee time.

The driving range is a lot nicer now with real grass. But it costs $7 for 72 balls or you can get a range key to get a break on the price. ( I forgot how many balls you get for $10).

Unless there are changes here, I will not be back to play here again. Pace of play is just too slow for us. It just takes too much time to play a round here. I would rather play a round on some of the LA city golf courses like Wilson or Harding golf courses with a lot less aggravation.
