Played 4/20. Got around in about 5 hours or so. Fun, challenging course. The staff is very courteous and professional. I saw and said hello to Mr. Trump on #14. He was very friendly, and asked about our experience. I didn't mention it to him on the course (because he was very cool, and he might have kicked my ass), but I will say it here: this course is awfully expensive. The views are great, and it is a first-class track, so perhaps that's just the going rate. I've heard that they have reduced the greens fees thru the end of May, if so, that's a good thing. Just for kicks, I checked the rate for 4/21 (at) 8:30 a.m. $275, before tax. Throw in the tax, and the round costs you $300. At $300, each hole is costing you (or someone else) $16.67. Ouch. On the other hand, this is all part of the Trump experience: top of the line facilities, good staff and a steep price. So you know that you are going to get quality, but it will cost you. What the hell. You only live once.

Oh yeah, one more thing: bring plenty of balls.

Best thing about this course is the views (180deg ocean views everywhere). Other than that, not really worth the green fees. Great condition, but the layout isn't all that interesting. Unfairly difficult (every tee shot has trouble in front that you have to carry, and trouble to the right and to the left). Problem is, if you hit an errant tee shot, it's in a hazard, and you have to take a penalty...target golf.

I played there in January 09. Yes, it has great views, and the staff is friendly. It has some fun holes, but it's overpriced. A much better option is Pelican Hill in Newport Beach. It's $100 cheap... Continue »

It's $100 cheaper, you get the same views, the course is better and it has more amenities. I'd play Trump again, but only if it was half the price, but I'm glad I played it once, just to say I did it. But I wasn't happy putting money in Donald's pocket, and I still hate his hair.

An amazing golf experience. This is a link style ocean course. Views of the ocean on every hole. Playing this course is an unforgetable experience. The course is in immaculate condition. It plays long due to many elevation changes and wind.

Trump National is my favorite golf course in California due to its amazing views, great holes, and challenging layout. A very challenging layout. Bring a lot of balls if you are not below a 10 handicap. Fairways tend to be fair to narrow in width. A good test of target golf. Greens roll true and tend to break towards the ocean.

The driving range is beautiful. It faces the ocean. You hit from grass. Trump National is 5 stars all the way.

Course plays on a hillside, with many relatively narrow 'terraced' fairways. Unusual features like Trump-made waterfalls behind 1st hole and 17th holes. (Why build fake waterfalls to compete with the Pacific Ocean?)

Also, there are 'championship' tees on some holes, which look like squat cubes of land dumped next to the beach. Visually, they detract from the look of the course.

On 18th hole, designer put in a row of strip bunkers on left side of fairway. To me, it looked overdone and unnecessary.

In an October 2007 Golf.com article Trump said that people have told him that his course is 'better than Pebble Beach'. I have played PB; it is much better than Trump LA. (He also stated that Trump LA is better than Bandon Dunes; it is not.)

Despite these criticisms, I still had fun playing the course, but doubt it is worth $375 (on weekends).

Got very lucky on my 1st outing here. Played last Friday on a beautiful morning with negligible wind conditions. This ocean course is very impressive from the time you drive down the driveway until you tell your friends about it a week later. WOW Trump's reputation is well intact at this little golf club. Yes, it is a bit pricey and like many things, you get what you pay for (I think of it as worth much more than two rounds at a mediocre golf). The TRUMP service was impeccable so far, with free valet, free locker use, free range balls, free water bottles, cart and GPS included (not including tips & gratuities). Yes, I brought extra balls as I am working my way down to single digit handicap (... by next year). Greens were true and immaculate (most fixed their ball marks) ... 9 on Stump meter. Great place to impress a date or bring your entourage if you are a movie star whose first name is Sean ;)

Played Trump National G.C. yesterday during Veteran's Day as a single. Arrived at the course parking lot and was immediately greeted by the friendly bagboy and bag was taken to the starter for me. Check in and was again friendly greeted by the proshop staff. Starter, Neal, gave me all the informations I needed to know in order to enjoy and play a good round. Went to the range to hit a few balls for warm up. Range was free and well stocked with water, golf tees, and plenty of great condition practice balls. Played with a twosome, John and Fernando. Golf course was in good condition with very little wind. Pace of play was perfect just enough time to hit the ball and enjoy the beautiful ocean view at every hole. Greens were just a little sandy, but still puttable. Had a great time. Only advices are to hit it smart and not hard, and to bring a few extra balls.

Wow, this course is awesome. Great view, there was no wind, the ocean was glassy, and the temp was in the low 80s. Luckily, IBM is approves treating my client to a nice round of golf, in other words, I didn't pay...IBM did.

One thing was a little different from most courses, the greens. ...are you kidding me? Wow! Miniature greens! 5 tiered greens with ridiculous pin placements. I mean, ridiculous. The tee shots are very humbling, because, when you look at the fairway, all you see is trouble. WOW! I am sure if you played this course, you know how to manage this course, but, going into it blindly was kinda amusing. haha. The rough was quite ridiculous. If courses don't have ball spotters, don't grow it so d%mn long!!!! I lost 3 balls in the rough. We knew where they went, but, the rough swallowed it!

Overall, I did enjoy it. Donald was playing the course, while, we played. It was cool seeing his Ferrari parked outside the clubhouse.

First let me say that I didn't pay the regular weekend rate which is $375 plus the city tax which would have been about $400... we had a coupon for $145 but don't forget the city tax... which brought the total to $155 and some change so the coupon is the way to go... over 60% off. The other humorous thing was the "Donald" showed up to play... he was suppose to be in the group in front but decided to go off the back nine instead... probably safer for him. With that being said, it's a beautiful course and the views are spectacular. The course plays kind of short but what makes it tough (at least for me) is that the fairways are a bit narrow, more so because if you go off the fairway and the "deep deep" rough then it's the enviromental area so it seems narrower because there less room for error. Some par 4's are drivable but well protected so it's better to just play it safe. Final word: I'll go back and play it one more time if I get another coupon.
