Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Paying $275 for a round of golf is out of my budget, however, if you were invited to play with work flipping the bill, its game time!
I was fortunate enough for our group to invite a caddy with us. HELPED a GREAT deal in terms of making the course much, much easier.
First of all, the greens was the best I have EVER played on. Amazing! There was a PGA tournament took place the week before, so they were still tourney quality.
I mean, I can go on and on... Just play here if you can afford it.

Wow, this course is awesome. Great view, there was no wind, the ocean was glassy, and the temp was in the low 80s. Luckily, IBM is approves treating my client to a nice round of golf, in other words, I didn't pay...IBM did.
One thing was a little different from most courses, the greens. ...are you kidding me? Wow! Miniature greens! 5 tiered greens with ridiculous pin placements. I mean, ridiculous. The tee shots are very humbling, because, when you look at the fairway, all you see is trouble. WOW! I am sure if you played this course, you know how to manage this course, but, going into it blindly was kinda amusing. haha. The rough was quite ridiculous. If courses don't have ball spotters, don't grow it so d%mn long!!!! I lost 3 balls in the rough. We knew where they went, but, the rough swallowed it!
Overall, I did enjoy it. Donald was playing the course, while, we played. It was cool seeing his Ferrari parked outside the clubhouse.

Good news, I get the Yorba Linda discount for $40 twilight, BAD News, this course is just horrible. Highly recommend playing this course for $40-$45, otherwise, not worth it.
Greens are just HORRIBLE. WOW! How hard is it to take care of greens? Go to any course close by to Black Gold, and you would understand my question.

Played today and it rained a bit. Used my "Birdie Card" from Roger Dunn, so we only paid $66. Totally worth it for $66 during the week. First time playing this course, and I totally loved it. Great lay out and somewhat challenging. The wind was BLOWIN at first, but, it made the course even more challenging at times. I recommend playing here and if you have a Birdie card from Roger, dont' pass this one up.
Today, I used the OC Trail 50% certificate for $85. I highly recommend joining the OC Trail membership if you want to pay that low of a green fee. In other words, it would be hard to justify spending $170-$230. lol
Customer Service:
All I have to say, "WOW" (in a good way). So professional, so incredible nice and helpful. The starter today was very thorough with tips and explaining how to work around the golf course's characteristics. The Ranger was also helpful in regards to the greens. The round includes a Monarch Beach GC metal bag "dog tag" thing with my name engraved.
The Course:
Very well taken care of, period. It seems as though, they take some pride maintaining this course. Its somewhat challenging from the Blacks, but I was just enjoying the round. If you don't mind spending $$$, then, you can score well if you play it a few times. The greens are quite challenging. IF you are not familar with the greends and where to place the ball, then, it can be quite challenging. The greens are hard, but fun.
Complaints:
Only compliant are the worker bees taking care of the course. They were nice to shut off their blowers and tractors (its a first) and not chat while addressing the ball, however, it would of been nice if they weren't working while I was playing. Overall, no complaints.
overall:
I agree with others that reviewed this course. Its great for a once in a year treat, but not a course to play regularly. Just to pricey. You need to play this at least once.

First time playing this course. Might be the last knowing they allow 5somes. They were going to put my buddy and I with a 5some, and in turn, we were gonna call Coto, but then they moved us with a single. But knowing they allow 5somes, it was going to be a long round. I think this course has good potential. Basically, everything was not in good shape. Great place to practice your short game. Very challenging greens and this course would be amazing if they actually had true/fast greens. Actually, it would be unfair. :) Its a fairly short course. If you are a long hitter, its a driver and wedge most of the round. If you got in trouble its easy to get out. But overall, I had fun...not worth $47... maybe $30 plus.
My buddy and I took the chance to play at 1pm. Management was honest and said, its possible not finishing today because its on the slow side. Unfortunately, I had the best game of my life. 7 pars, 2 birdies, 8 GIRs, 30 putts....and then the 18th hole came around....CRAP! I just laughed and chuckled. Anyway, this course is just awesome. One of the reasons I scored well, because I only broke my driver 3 or 4 times. Very target golf and forces you to play smart. Not the sort of golf I normally like of playing, because I love using my driver and its not a very long course. I would recommend playing this course early to get the early bird rate of $55. Greens are interesting, approach shots are challenging but realistic. Have fun and think ahead.
I called to see if they reducing the green fee due to the conditions....the guy on the phone was SO incredible rude and said the course is the best condition its been ever... haha. I needed a laugh, thanks guys!
"We do believe our experience warrants our rates, but we are electing to give each paid golfer through the end of summer a free sleeve of Nike Power Distance golf balls as a way of saying thank you for sticking with us when we are not at our admitted best. We hope you appreciate our forwardness and honesty and we are thankful for your patronage."
Black Gold needs to lower the rates, period. More like $50 per round. When paying $85 to $150 to play at a C-of course, justifies joining Yorba Linda Country Club. At least they take care of their track. And BTW, Yorba Linda and Coyotte Hills do not have the same conditions that Black Golf experienced with the dry heat AND they are 5 minutes away from each other. hmm... B.S!
Management at Black Gold decided to give the golfer a $4 crappy Nike Power Distance to justify the cost? Complete insult.
I avoid playing at this course of all cost. When paying $100+, I rather play at Coyette, Tustin Ranch, Oak Creek, Strawberry Farms, and etc..
Awhile ago, I took at friend from North Carolina to play at Black Gold. He was amazed how much this course cost. And I told him there is only a couple of courses in orange county that is worth $100+.

Played in a tourney yesterday at TR. I played here 6 months ago and told myself I would never play again for $150 or $110 during the week, period. Not challenging and every par 4 is kinda the same. Since, my entry fee was already played, I wanted to give this course one more look. In summary, this course is nice, but not in anyway worth $150 or even $80. From the tips, its not challenging, nor the tips give the course a different look. Everything is well taken care for, but its not worth the money. If I was going to be willing to pay $150 to play consistently, I would rather join a private club or I would rather save my money to play at Pebble.
Not really to "up in arms" with this course. The starter really should of space out the tee times. Not very enjoyable with waiting and people on your back. FYI, there is no range to warm up, no club house (typical for new courses) and no yardage markers. There are "dirt trails" next to the course on the back 9, so you might see a couple of dirt bikes pulling wheelies on the cart paths to the trail. NO JOKE. In summary, this course is a nice course to learn during the weekday, but not a course to be challenged. The Blues are playing from the White and the Champion Tees are not playing yet. I will go back for $39 during the week. If this course raises its prices when a club house, range, club house, etc... is built, NO WORTH it...Rather go to Eagle across the street.
I am not too impressed with this track. Too bad, because this is located at a premier location. I have seen better fairways at a $20 course, however, the greens are nice. Weird. Management allows 5 to 6 players per party. I guess its a cultural thing... But, I doubt it. I think $75 during the week is WAY too much. Most likely will not go again.
