Played from the Blue tees on 12/8/10 at 9:10 a.m. and there was little if any negative impact from recent course maintenance. I believe this is my best rating of a course. Everything was immaculate and the course was nearly empty. The fairways were the best maintained I have ever seen. The bunkers were a bit moist but immaculate as well. The greens were nearly spotless albeit challenging to read at times. Course knowledge would be helpful here. The course is narrow at times and shot placement is required for the multi-tiered greens. Both the fairways and the greens are undulating and well-guarded by bunkers. I'd love to play here more often, but it's tough to justify the $275 fare. Grab the $150 specials when you can. This course is a special treat.

Played 12/5. Tee'd off at 130 pm and walked off 18 at 500 pm. The cart path only rule only applies to #1 and #10. The greens, fairways and rough are pristine. You would never know they overseeded and punched the greens a month ago. As of Dec 1. the price is back to $275 a round. It is well worth the fee based on the course, the staff and the surroundings. It is truly a great place to spend a day. Luckily I live 5 miles away so I plan to spend many a day out there.

Played here to take advantage of the aeration special. Unlike previous posters, I would say that the recent maintenance has clearly not taken hold yet - greens are bumpy, soft and slow and the fairways are extremely shaggy (more like semi-rough) and wet as they try to get the new seed to take. Also, tee boxes look like they were re-seeded and were very shaggy indeed!

That being said, it's an extremely challenging course from the blues at only 6300 yards or so. Premium is placed on accuracy off the tee (the rough is so high and thick that you are lucky to find a ball let alone be able to advance it much if you end up in the long stuff). On approaches the green complexes are very undulating so if you don't play to the correct area where the pin is located then you are struggling to 2 putt.

Views are truly spectacular (makes Pebble look ordinary!) and every hole looks out over the ocean and Catalina Island. The only critique I would make of the layout is that many of the holes feel similar with mounding and steep fescue slopes on one side of each fairway and barranca junk/water/waste bunker on the other.

For 150 it is well worth it (maintenance conditions aside). Not sure I'd pay the rack.

I just moved to this side of town two weeks ago. I played Trump for the first time on 11/5. Tee'd off at 9 am as a single and played the round in approx. 3 hours. Even though they had recently aerated the greens they were surprisingly smooth and rolling true. The fairways, rough, traps, tee boxes and greens were all in superb shape. I play a rotation of the whites, blues and black tees. The black tees are no joke. The blue tees are good for anyone with an 18 hdcp or lower. The white tees were almost too easy as 3 par 4's were drive-able. The weather was great, the staff is unbelievable, and the restaurant is top of the line. If you don't want to spend a lot on food, the grill has a really good hot dog! Right now the fees are $150 to play and its cart path only, but when you have an ocean view on every hole, its not that big of a deal to walk out to your ball. The GPS in the carts is great and each sprinkler is marked with yardages to the front, middle and back of the greens. I will definitely be back again before the rates go back to $275. I would have to say that this course is tied with Monarch Beach and Angeles National as my favorite in SoCal.

Played Sunday, 6/27/10, 2:20 start time. Beautiful course, wind really did not play a factor. We were not pushed at all, nor did we have to wait to hit at any hole. Played no. 18 from "the volcano" which stretched it to like a 550 yard par 4 (!) Strongly suggest that if you play this course, play no. 18 from up top, great view!!

I played here at 11:30am on 5/14. This place is nothing short of amazing. Everything you would expect from a world class golf facility. The mid-day rate is definitely worth the price.

We started and ended our days at the range. Trump has a great range to warm up on and practice.

From tee box to green, Trump National is in great condition. The fairways were all green and perfectly maintained. The greens are all picture perfect. The rough is definitely all there and dangerous, especially if you over shoot a few of the greens and the sand is soft and perfect. Like I said, everything you would expect.

The views are...are...let's just say, if you had to, you could sit around and wait for your shot all day and still enjoy yourself. Rest assured that is not the case. Play was quick. Marshall was around making sure play was moving smoothly. I think we finished around 3:30. Although, I wouldn't have minded finishing at 6:30 and probably would have if it wasn't for the Marshall and all the groups behind us.

I don't know what else to say. If you want to play golf on a cloud overlooking the ocean and don't want to leave SoCal, then Trump is your place. I wish I could play here everyday. Everyone was really nice, courteous and welcoming, especially the starter. I definitely had a great time and I will be back to play here again.

Wow! That is the best word to describe this course. Conditions perfect. It speaks well of the fact Trump received best playing conditions here for LA County. The greens, perfect. Once you realize they play similarly to Los Verdes -- the course sits on a side of a hill and the ball will invariably roll towards the ocean -- you can figure out how to put each hole. Get a good look and fight what you see and play with more with the information you get here b/c that is the best way to play this course. Tee Boxes, lush and flat. Rough is trouble but lush -- stay out of it. When in doubt .... lay up. Course is long but not too long so if you have narrow landing spots and you tend to spray the ball off the tee like I do... lay up. No harm.... you will thank me for that. Fairways... perfect. Gotta say the whole experience made me think of Pebble without the crowds. Literally no one in front, and behind for the whole round. Played Blue tees and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks to Johnny and the management/staff of Trump for making this experience an experience. The level of SERVICE here is top notch. They treat their customers well. Heck even if there is a misunderstanding which happened at the desk when I was hovering there making a purchase they were curteous, honest and forthright. Well worth the price of admission if you ask me which is pricey. If you have this on your to do list for golf courses in LA.. at least give this course a try. You won't be disappointed.

Just some critiques... BUY the yardage book. That $9.00 investment will pay dividends to the first time player. The GPS lacks the information you need to make informed decisions. It's just a display with a picture of the hole with yardages. The yardage book gives you more detail and some tips/advice to play the hole. Course knowlege is key. Remember this course sits on the side of a hill. So if the put looks uphill take a look around. Sometimes what may seem uphill really is a downhill lie. It will shake the foundation of what you see is what you get. Once you get past that... it should be smooth sailing. Also beware of your landing spots. Palmer is an SOB about that so if lay up is necessary.. suck it up and do it. You will thank me for the reduced blood bursting vessels you may pop from the frustation of finding yourself in a bunker and out of play.

Overall great experience. Cart girl, pretty btw, showed up three times during our round. The marshall even introduced himself. Checked on our play. Valet parking is complementary... take advantage of it. Get the full experience. Also those guys who handle the starting times (Manny I believe his name was)... Top notch service. Very customer oriented which is a definite plus for the price tag. If you pay the coin it takes to play this course... you expect to be treated like royalty and this course does this in spades WITH the kitchen sink thrown in for good measure. My personal opinion... great course...great conditions.... great service. It's a good combination of price, value AND most importantly ... SERVICE. Kudos to team Trump and Trump National.

Just played Trump National Golf Club for the first time today 5/5…one of the most immaculate conditioned golf courses I’ve ever experienced. There was hardly a blade of grass or grain of sand out of place. Everything was as it should be. Greens fast, smooth and held shots. Fairways cut tight and lush. Primary Rough 2 to 3 inches and Secondary Rough 4 to 6 both being lush. Tee Boxes cut tight and laser level. Sand Traps, marble white with perfect texture and meticulously kept. One of the very few times I have ever rated a golf course a 10. I obviously saw why Greenskeeper.org Members voted Trump National Golf Club as having the Best Playing Conditions in Los Angeles County 2009.

As for the layout, wow, every hole has a view of the ocean and some include incredible green side waterfalls. The design is very challenging with tight rolling fairways, elevation changes, undulating potato chip shaped greens, strategic/beautiful use of sand traps green-side and adjacent to fairways, intimidating water hazards and deep green side rough. We played the blue tees, par 71 that measured 6291 yards (plays much longer) 72.1/138. As challenging and scenic the layout is, it is also enormously fun. The place is pure eye candy and the shots you find out there are very unique. When you succeed with a good shot on this course, you feel terrific.

Regarding the service, I was treated extremely well by everyone from the moment I pulled up in my car to when I left the property. Very friendly, helpful and professional people…made me feel like a million bucks.

Regarding the clubhouse, it was exceptional as expected. Very clean, very classy, amazing ocean views and well organized.

Lastly, I’d be remiss not to mention the superb driving range equipped with multiple green complexes to aim at and perfectly kept grass to hit off. Great way to warm up.

Today was one of the most impressive/enjoyable golf experiences I’ve had in my 25 years of playing.
