What we got: Everything green and shaggy with greens rolling under 10ft. Played Black Tees and had to carry alot of waste areas to the fwys. Liked the course and challenge but was expecting better conditions for a Saturday when they charge top $. They have some interesting tee and green complexes but the slow greens really bummed me out. Nothing out of place and customer service was at par for the Trump name and service guarantee. I have played Bandon/Old Mac/Pacific and have seen the ocean before so the views were nice but I want much quicker/tighter surfaces when I pay top tier green fee. The cart girl said The Donald was coming next month so maybe they are going to tighten things up little moving forward. In my opinion, both of the water features look out of place.

Played Trump National on 5/26/12, and from the last time I played there (april 2011, they were aerating the fairways on that period) I found the course in immaculate conditions. Tee boxes, fairways, greens were more then perfect, so were the bunkers.
I love the huge practice area, even if on Saturday only an half of it was open and the conditions of the grass of the driving range weren't so fantastic. Hundreds of divots, and just a few inches of available virgin grass.
The course is always incredibly spectacular and challenging with an unforgettable Pacific Ocean view from every hole.
Great customer service, and friendly starter Manny gives to every player the perfect tips to challenge this monster course.

If you can find a great deal on your tee time like I did (less than an half of the full rate) this course is definitely a must play. IMO the best public course of the LA area.

This course is really top notch...its upkeep, its immaculate landscaping, outstanding ocean views, a fair and reasonable course layout for for serious and recreational golfers, and complete support facilities/amenities, i.e. driving range, proshop, formal and casual dining, etc. This somewhat expensive public course is worth the special experience in the southern California area.

I must be a glutton for punishment as I forgot how brutal this course is. No room for wayward tee shots and zero bailout areas on most holes, greens are extremely challenging. Course was in very good shape and if you get a deal its worth the price of admission... otherwise in my opinion its really not. One big disappointment was the range, I'm pretty certain the grass on the range was longer than the rough on the course.

Played on 1/14/12 on a perfect golf day. The conditions were good (7.5 out of 10), but not at the level that I had expected given the high green fee. The course had a few entertaining and interesting holes, but overall, I didn't feel like it was worth the green fee and probably won't visit again. Prior course knowledge is required in order to play well, since on most holes you don't see the whole hole from the tee - which to me is a bit annoying.

I was a little disappointed that all the holes basically ran parallel to the ocean, but no "signature" ocean hole that makes you tee off towards the water; a shame actually, considering the great location. Would've been a great hole like the 17th at pebble, or 16th at makena golf club in maui.

all in all, a good track for about $100 - $120. Not over $200.

If you don't mind paying a little more than most Daily Fee courses, Trump National is a place that lives up to the old saying: "You get what you pay for." For those of you who have had the pleasure of owning a luxury car, a nice suit, or a fine pair of leather shoes, you can probably distinguish the difference between Trump National and other golf courses. We all work hard from Mon-Fri and sometimes you just have to pamper yourself. You can always play a fun round with the members at your local country but when you want to be treated to the finest, go to Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles.

Well we lucked out big time. The weather was perfect. Catalina Island was reachable in two. Despite the course still recovering from overseeding and punched greens this was a very enjoyable golf day. No course can match the scenic beauty as this one can. And on every hole! The course is tough as it is beautiful, however. I wouldn't even think of playing the black tees out here if the wind was howling. Even on a mostly calm day like today the black tees are only recommended for very low handicappers in my opinion. On some holes (5, 6, 9, 10, and 18) a carry of at least 240 and straight is needed. On 10 ....are you kidding??? There were kids playing catch football in front of that tee box. ( It was closed anyway) What a diabolical place for a tee box on that one! The fairways are not wide. The only negative is that each hole parallels other holes rather close giving a feel of less seclusion. There are countless spots for pictures out here. The 12th green is unbelievable. The waterfalls are amusement park like. The 18th at 512 yards is the hardest par 4 I think I have ever played. How did they build that tee box!?!? There many non-golfers walking/jogging so near to holes on the walking trails. I love the large American Flag by the clubhouse. Every course should have one! The golfers discount on the Sunday brunch was a nice surprise. A large buffet and great food with awesome champagne capped off a great day. I did not rate this place because they have not cut the grass after overseeding. I am sure it would be a 9+ in a month from now. Whew, now I will take a breath.

Rough was tall and lush, but not super penalizing. narrow course with awesome views. long round due to us sucking. This is the first time i've played since it was Ocean Trails. It's basically the same layout with alot of sprucing up and maintenance. but the layout is brutal... hard course. Overall a good experience, but the discounted rate i got is still a bit steep for me to do again.

Played here for first time on Saturday 8/13. Very good first impressions with excellent customer service at valet, proshop and starter. There were many aspects of the course which I loved, and a few that were bothersome, but overall, I believe is a must play in Southern Cal. Try to find a discount or play twilight, as rack rate tops out at $275.

I thought the layout was interesting, challenging, and strategic. A few tight blind shots that are difficult to navigate, but not as severe as I had heard. I'm assuming the weather I encountered, overcast and very humid in early a.m., contibuted to the significantly lower carry yardages thoughout. Even when clouds cleared and air dried a bit, breeze affected distances. I found up to 1.5 - 2 clubs difference. My 7 iron, if struck well typically flies 160-165, at Trump on this particular day, only flew 145-150. Took a while to adjust.

Conditions were superb. Fairways are lush, rough was penal, sand (and there is a lot of it) was excellent, and greens were receptive, yet firm enough and very smooth. Large greens for the most part, with lots of buried elephants and different tiers. Great ocean and coast views from almost every hole, but no holes down to or near the water. Great visual experience...that is, when you find and get to the teebox. The transitions from green to tee are marked well, but still very awkward and somewhat confusing. Tee boxes are marked with small colored (gold, black, blue, white, red) stones on cart path, but even then you rarely see the hole from where you park. Usually a path the leads up to the tee box, and then you see what the hole is all about. Because the holes are a little crapmped, there were a couple of holes with tee boxes that looked out at two fairways. For first timers, will take a little getting used to. Even with the tight connections of tee boxes, greens and fairways, there was very little interference from any other group.

The hikers who are allowed access via hiking paths, are another story. We encountered several hikers who got lost on the trails below the course, and wandered onto carts paths, and others who were disruptive. I understand the significance of providing access to others on this piece of land, but wish the hikers were more aware of the golfing element on the same land.

All in all, as mentioned above, I still highly recommend, and will go back to play again, as with a little better course and condition knowledge will enjoy more the second time.
