Played today Saturday, 7/21 with a tee time around 10 am. It took us around 4 1/2 hours to play. We had to wait on almost every hole to tee off. It was a little slow today. It got a little better on the back nine by around the 15 hole. Came out here to play as it was about 20 degrees cooler than the SFV. It get a little distracting to watch the planes take off and land here but it helps pass the time when we have to wait to tee off.

The tees boxes were fairly level but the teeing area was getting all beat up with divots. The fairways were average condition with some lies that were a little thin and others with rather lush grass. The rough here was sometimes a little thick and some were rather thin. Sand was decent but some were rather nice and others had rather thick sand. Greens were running a little fast but I noticed that balls tend to bounce a little bit on the greens. Looked like the 4th green was patched up but it didn't affect roll on the green. The 2nd hole had a lot of birds on the lake and around and near the 2nd green. I accidentally hit a bird just off the 2nd green when my ball rolled off the back. Bird was ok. and walked away.

Favorite holes here are the added holes when it went from 15 holes to 18 holes. Like playing 15, 16 and 17th holes as these feel like playing on a regulation 18 course. The other holes are mostly par 3s and par 4s. A lot of holes are side by side, so you have to watch for balls from the adjacent holes. I saw a lot of players on the wrong fairway. They do fivesomes here, which can make for slow play. But we like coming here as it's a lot cooler than the SFV. There's a driving range here and short game area that you can rent for 1/2 - 1 hour for additional $$.

Played Wednesday. It was a busy day.

Greens running pretty quick and very receptive. Fairways had good coverage. Rough is mixed bag of thick to thinnish lies. Tee boxes are uneven; took a bit to find a nice flat spot but for me playable. Bunkers were well stocked with sand; ranging from good fluffy sand to compact sand.

Pace of play was decent. Note they have juniors playing but the coaches with these kids do keep the pace of play moving; which is a good thing.

Greens are in my humble opinion some of the best in the South Bay. You can pick a line and be assured your line will hold with a well struck putt -- even on the three newer greens.

This is by far the best condition I have ever seen the course in. The tee boxes were largely flat and lush. A few were crowned and/or had a lot of divots.

The fairways were, over the majority of the course, perfect. They were cushy, had good roll out, and were a pleasure to hit from. I couldn't believe the condition of the fairways.

I didn't find myself in any bunkers but have thought the bunkers had good sand in past trips.

The greens are recovering from their recent punching on 1/2 of the greens. The flags were placed on the unpunched half but if you found yourself on the wrong side of the green it could be a frustrating trip to the green.

After a few rough rounds of late, decided to head back to the launch pad of my golf career that is Westchester. You can always rely on Westchester to deliver adequate conditions and a boost to your confidence if you play even decently well. Of course, if you have a stinker here with its short holes and little trouble, it's time to pack it in for a while. Walked from the back tees and played with three other singles who were good company. Current conditions at Westchester are not too bad at all. The fairways have adequate coverage on the par 4s and while you might find a thin lie here or there, you're generally rewarded with a decent hitting surface. Rough is just slightly taller but is very playable. The bunkers at Westchester are in outstanding shape. Nice and fluffy, a great many higher end courses could take a lesson from this place on how to stock their traps. Tee boxes are fine with some wear and tear of course but level throughout for the most part. The greens are amazingly in good shape with all of the traffic here, but as usual, that traffic does not do a great job of fixing their ball marks. The putts are faster than they appear but you won't have too many breaks or slopes to contend with throughout the day. They're fairly simple but easy to underestimate the speed at times. I also managed to score a personal best 71 after countless rounds here in my brief career, so that's always a nice feeling. POP was not too bad even though we did a fair bit of waiting ... helps that the holes are all generally short or par 3s mostly. Need your fix? Need your confidence back? Come play Westchester and have a little fun.

Played today at twilight. $20 to walk.

Greens in good shape. They rolled true and were consistent. I think the greens are the best part about this place. Greens looked healthy and with high enough shots you could stick the ball with decent accuracy and not a lot of roll out.

Fairways were lush. Rough was thick and very penal. It was fun. You had to get creative with your shots. Bunkers were all well stocked. They looked good with a nice layer on top. Tee boxes were only problem. All tees were pushed forward to allow the tee boxes to get healthy. The tee boxes all look great and flat. The forward tee position was hit and miss with flatness.

Pace of play 3 hours for 18 holes. Recommended.

Played Twilight today. $20.50 to walk versus their 11-3 deal of $27 to ride + 2 drinks.

Greens rolled well and have healed. Some of the holes are still healing but rolling well with medium to fast speed. They hold their lines well but afternoon sun does affect bumpiness of the greens. Fairways all had good coverage. Rough is mix of thick to sparse, but hey, it's rough and it can be penal at times. Some of the tee boxes are flatish and some are not, but certainly playable.

Pace of play for 18 was 3 1/2 hours, not bad for a consistently crowded course. Since the greens are rolling true ... expect them to get better. Recommended.

Greens rolling well with medium speed. They held their line with a well-struck putt. Loads of divots though so folks please clean up your mess so others may enjoy the greens as well. Bunkers also not well kept. I swear Bigfoot lives near there because those footprints are EVERYWHERE. Folks please clean up your mess. The worse case and it will happen often because literally no one rakes their mess if you will find yourself in a footprint in the bunker.

Good coverage in both fairways and rough. Rough is THICK. Ball will tend to sink into rough so try to keep your ball in play or suffer a sticky, penal mess that will shorten your shot.

Tee boxes are flat for the most part. If they aren't flat by the tee markers remember you have two club lengths to find a nice flat spot so totally playable.

Pace of play could have been faster but paired with two newbies that played a lot of army golf (left/right/left).

Greens are a little bumpy. The back 9 greens appear in better shape compared to the front 9. Front 9 greens were running medium/slow and bumpy. Back 9 greens were running med/fast and held their line well.

Fairways are in good shape; decent coverage with no bare spots. Rough is cut to the same height as the fairways so not really an issue. Grass around greens is fairly thick and sticky. Sand in bunkers is hard packed and very playable.

Pace of play was... slow. Played with two beginners and another single. 4+ hours for the round which could have easily been 3 hours had they simply picked up the pace. Blame long pre-shot routines. No worries though. Weather cooperated and there was no one before or after us, except for the 3-some that skipped around us.

Figure the greens should be in fine shape in another week with the cooler weather.

Nice little Sunday round at Westchester, walking at 9:50 am and paired up with two nice older gentlemen who were a pleasure for me and my buddy to play with. Course is in pretty decent shape right now overall, but there are some thin sections still in the fairways and the area around the lake on hole 2 is still brown after being suffocated by overflowing water after the rains.

The greens are actually sneaky fast but do have a lot of ball marks that need much better attention from the golfers who are actually making them. The sand in the bunkers is in very good shape - no complaints there at all. Rough is very playable - often preferable to thin sections of the fairways. And the tee boxes are very typical of Westchester - lots of traffic, so lots of divots and dry areas, but also a few too many uneven for a totally flat course.

But look, it's Westchester. You get what you pay for and what you get is a fair, executive golf experience at a minimum price for a proper 18 holes that mostly lets you work on your short game, but does throw in some longer holes to keep you honest. And POP was quite good today at around 4:45 - not bad for crowded Sunday.
