Played at Anaheim Hills this past weekend with my monthly golf group and was looking forward to it all week. Unfortunately the course is going through some maintenance that should have been reflected in the greens fee, but it wasn't. The course is in fine enough shape for the most part, including some nice greens right now, but the tee boxes are definitely on the beat-up side. However, to pay the full $90 rate for a course that has at least half the holes shortened due to tee box maintenance, and to have an entire par 4 (hole 16) downgraded to a 150-yard par 3 with a massive hole where the pin should go, well, that's just not good business sense. POP for some reason was also quite slow as we finished in a little over five hours, however I'm not sure that didn't have to do with our group as much as anything. We did have great cart service come around multiple times throughout the day. Right now the course should be discounted to around a $50-60 rate to reflect the current state of the layout, but it's not. And it's a shame because the rest of the course is actually in pretty nice shape and still fun to play. You're just not getting all the golf you should for the money.

Played today with a 7am tee time. Half of back tee boxes are under maintenance and everything is moved up. #12 is now a 370yd par 5.

Tee boxes for the moved up holes are all in poor shape, others are fine. #16 green is under maintenance and is now a 130yd par-3. Outside of that, conditions are good. Fairways and rough areas are lush, greens are on the slower side but smooth and rolled true. My rating is unrelated to the changes to the tee boxes and maintenance.

Played AH on Friday, May 6th. I hadn't played here for about 15 years. I had a really good time, but the cost could keep me from booking as there are cheaper places to play. Their rates fluctuate depending on demand. I booked 7 days out and got a decent rate and a few days later it was about $10 higher for the same tee time.

The course was in very nice shape and it exceeded my expectations.
Tees - A few could use a leveling, but it nice shape.
Fairways - In really good shape and never a bad lie.
Rough - Thick. Sometimes you needed to be over top of your ball before you could see it.
Bunkers - Playing in the morning made the bunkers a little moist from the dew and nighttime watering, but very playable.
Greens - Very good shape, but other players ball marks needed to be fixed often.

I was surprised how short the course is, but it plays so much longer as some tee shots play uphill. Some of the downhill tee shots are very fun. I know I will be back sooner than later, as I had just a fun experience. Oh Hole 12 sucks! Maybe because I missed a 2.5 footer for par.

Made it back out to Anaheim Hills this past weekend with two friends with a 1:10 tee time and rode from the blue tees. We had our fourth need to drop out late but the staff was kind enough to simply let the three of us on without any penalty for the late scratch.

Pretty good course conditions all around at Anaheim Hills right now. The fairways are amply green with good coverage in most areas, but just remember that you'll be hitting a lot of non-drivers off the tee with so many quirky doglegs and odd angles and distances from the tee box.

The rough is in good shape as well but there are a lot of wooded areas that you can get yourself in easy trouble, while the bunkers have some nice sand in them and the tee boxes are slightly on the beat up side with a few too many unlevel spots, but get the job done. Greens and green complexes are in good shape right now with a few too many pitch marks needing fixing.

Carts are very basic so don't expect any frills there and we did want to lavish praise on the wonderful cart girl this past Sunday who was super fun, super helpful and a great ambassador for the club in terms of friendliness and promoting great fun out on the course.

All in all, it was a nice visit out to Anaheim Hills and I always enjoy a round or two here every year to test my club knowledge and wisdom while having a pretty fun time doing it. This course is not for everyone though and that's not a knock, just a factual observation.

Kicked off the New Year’s swings with a late morning round at Anaheim Hills at 1130 on Friday, 1/7/22. Still not easy to find reasonable morning tee times these days – AHGC would not normally be a choice I’d seek. Prepaid online for $60, so it was pricey for the product. Lingering fog gave way briefly to sunshine but then more clouds and fog cooled things back down, and overall it was a hazy and cold day. Got paired with a pleasant 3some of friends in my age group, got off on time and kept pace with the horde, finishing in just under 5 hours. Cart was OK, pretty basic but with an interactive GPS system that also showed other carts (but only on some holes?). No starter, just show up at the tee at your time. Did not see any on course staff, but did see the cart girl about 3 times, although she didn’t seem too interested in pushing her wares.

Course conditions were playable but not memorable. After last week’s rain I was glad there was no CPO, but still a lot of hiking up and down slopes and to tees and greens. Greens had pretty good coverage, were firm and hard to hold, and rolled pretty well at medium+ speed, with big differences up and down the canyon – be aware of the overall flow. Greens are fairly small, roundish, and mostly without severe slope or tiering (except at the top of the ear-popping climb to #12). Fairways were tight but generally gave OK lies; rough was mostly dry and cut low. Rough around many greens, especially on the back nine, is thick-bodied kikuyu that is in very scruffy condition, resulting in unpredictable lies and playability. Tees were generally in poor condition – mostly wet, frequently torn up and sometimes uneven (we played White). Markers on several holes were pushed forward to temporary tees. I wasn’t in any traps, but rakes were out and the sand looked to be in good condition. [Shot of the Day – one of my playing companions holed his shot from the greenside bunker on #5 for a birdie.]

Cart paths, especially on the back nine, need attention. The overall vibe here is pretty casual and players come and go with little staff interaction. OK for a casual round, but be prepared for some hiking.

Afternoon tee time at The Hills. Check in and first tee were well organized. Quite a few tee boxes under construction and tees bunched together and had not been moved for awhile. With tees moved up the course was playing short. Fairways and rough have good coverage, traps were all over the map with many wet compacted sand and even though rakes were out people not raking traps. Greens had good coverage but were very bumpy and inconsistent being on the slow side. POP was very good on the front but slow on the back. Green fees are a little high for the current conditions.

Disspointed with the condition of the course. I'd read and heard from employees that there might be a few holes with construction going on. I found at least 6 tee boxes under construction and temporary tee boxes in their place. Some were positioned on the ladies tees which means it shortened the course and some were just tee markers placed on fairways. Greens were in good condition. I expected the whole course to be in better condition. I just played Mountain Meadows and felt it was in better condition for $20 less.

This is my home course and I have played here often. They are doing a lot of enhancements to the course right now, including all new bunkers. Greens have recovered nicely from aerification and are rolling pretty quickly, albeit, sometimes still bumpy. My biggest gripe with this course is the PoP. It has gotten REALLY bad... A Friday at 11am tee time should not take over 5 hours to finish. Not sure if it is because of American Golf running the course now and there are no Marshalls, or what, but it is bad. It is impossible to get into a golfing rhythm, and thus, not enjoyable.

Played at Anaheim Hills yesterday with my monthly golf group and had a great time with the exception of some pretty shoddy bunkers, or at least the maintenance of them. Other than that, the course was in very good shape and the operational flow was quite good, although POP was not great being behind a slow-moving, heavy-drinking men's club tournament.

We had five groups and all rode in carts (which are nice with GPS) starting with a 10am tee time and we played from the white tees as is customary for this group. Easy check-in, short walk down to the driving range, practice putting green open for business.

Quirky layout with a lot of holes defying convention, but still quite fun if you're playing somewhat accurately. The lake that comes into play on holes 12 and 13 is currently drained and playing as a hazard if I'm not mistaken. There are some really nice holes out here as well and the scenery/weather was pretty perfect so no complaints.

Greens are in terrific shape, rolling true and holding shots quite well. I would consider them medium-fast but very consistent and fun to play on. Course is quite green right now with plenty of good lies throughout but the occasional thin or mud spot (like the one I found on 18 that scuppered the rest of my good round!). Rough is varied but fairly thick and you may want to bring a rescue club to cut through it in some spots. Tee boxes were in good shape - flat and level. The bunkers were a disaster though with lots of bumps and footprints, very grainy and wet - far from ideal. Not sure if it was an over-watering situation.

As previously mentioned, POP was slow but we were having a good time either way. Cart service came around numerous times so that made it much more bearable. I believe the fee with cart was around $78 which is right on the border of a bit too much but you're going to find a well-maintained track with plenty of character - both good and bad - and very nice amenities and service to keep you entertained.
