Course is very close to my house, but don't play here much cuz it's tough to get on and the greens are just too hard and full of ball marks. Conditions were fine. No rough to speak of, thin fairways, get lots of roll for sure. Traps were either wet and hard, or nice fluffy. No consistency. Good pace of play. Lots of workers driving around in 'suped up jeep type carts. At times it was like playing on the freeway there was so much cart/maintanence traffic. Also, a group was doing an environmental survey; driving around in carts without any idea of golf etiquette. They have hoses set up with moveable sprinklers on many fairways. Overwatering lots of spots. I'd rather play Tijeras. Also, it was inevitable. They sucked everyone in a few years back when they opened with $55 green fees. Then it went to $58. Well, starting Sept. 4th green fees go up to $65. That's a big jump. Get the creek card at tijeras and you can play a much better conditioned course for $50!

I finally played Arroyo Trabuco for the first time today. The fairways and tee boxes are in excellent shape but the greens are a little questionable. There seem to be an abundance of ball marks and other imperfections on many greens. The greens also roll much slower than they look like they will, and slower than the practice putting green. Overall, though, this is a very nice layout and a pretty good deal for the price. Keep the ball in play here -- there are lateral hazards (environmentally sensitive areas that don't allow you to search for/find/play your ball) on nearly every hole (possibly every hole). The $3 yardage book in the clubhouse is a smart purchase, especially if you're playing here for the first time.

Played here 7/30, teed off at 8:45am, second time I played it but the first time was about two years ago. This course has a nice layout, tough but still fair, although a yardage book would come in handy if you don't play here often, simply because there are a fair number of blind shots and the GPS doesn't feature a hole map. Has anyone else noticed that, with the exception of the first par 3 that is quite long, all the rest of the par 3's play between 160 and 175 (from the blues, considering up or downhill)? Still a great course, but I was a little perplexed when I pulled out my seven iron for the 4th time to tee off on a par 3.
The course was a little soggy when I played, especially the greens, which were having a hard time healing from ball marks (many of which were not fixed, so not their fault). The fairways and tee boxes were very well kept, though, and I think this course is a great deal for the money, compared to other OC golf courses.

First time playing here today....what a wonderful layout. Not the best course to pull out your new driver and use it for the first time since you have to clear some distance off the tee box to get to the fairways especially from the Blue Tees. The greens were smooth other than a few divots and rolled pretty true. There was a lot of watering going on around the course and alot was done early in the morning. So when you got near the greens, there was no roll if you landed the front of the green. This course had some very long Par 3's too. I will definitely come back to this course....well worth the money! This course is challenging but yet not as tight and narrow as a lot of other courses....this was a very enjoyable round. Next time will probably be more fun since at least I now know the layout.

The ball will roll out a long ways so make sure you aim in the right spots. Nice breeze from Dana point to cool us off. Tee boxes are in great shape. Always a pleasre to play.

Played here on 7/16 and the course is finally starting to fill in due to them not overseeding for the winter. The fairways have grass now and aren't as hardpacked as they have been for the past few months. Still no rough anywhere. this course doesn't really need it though. It has all the arroyos and canyons to make it more difficult. This is one of my favorite courses for sure. The only real problem is that there are a couple of guys in the Pro-shop that are real A-holes. They make you feel like you are bothering them when you walk in. As if the $88 greenfee wasn't enough, they treat you like you are annoying them. Everything else about this course is great. The rest of the customer service here is great. The Restaurant and Bar are absolutely incredible. This is a must play course, just don't let the pro-shop guys ruin your day.
