When this course opened it was super, now the conditions are just awful. The fairways are like playing on linoleum - all the grass is dead and the fairways are very hard. Difficult to play near the green as any miss causes the shot to be skulled. Brown grass all over - this would be an embarassment for a muni course, not acceptable for an 'upscale' semi-private layout.

Played on Friday, Feb. 3. The overall condition of the course is good. The the fairways tend to roll balls into collection areas which creates areas with plenty of divots. The fairway grass is dormant and cut tight allowing plenty of roll. The rough is non existant. The greens are in great shape and firm so you must land short of the hole. The course is fairly wide off the tees and friendly to players of all levels. On holes 6 and 10 put away the driver or you mighy hit it through the fairway. On hole 18 drive it down the right side of the fairway because drives down the left may catch the slope and run into the water. The $78 dollar green fees Friday-Sunday are not the best but $58 is worth it Monday-Thursday.

Hard fairways allow ball to roll giving greater distance to most shots. Many fairways slope to center (nice!) Greens are big. A favorite of most golfers I've played with.

Played Sunday, Jan. 30. Only the second time I've played there, last time being Spring of last year. The conditions this time were much worse than last spring when conditions were great. Played with a member who said that for whatever reason, they didn't overseed this winter. Fairways were brown, divots all over the place, and greens were not in the best shape. They must have given all maintanance workers the winter off! Definately won't play there again until the spring...especially for $88 on weekends.

Great course. Eventhough it beat me up, I liked the layout. This course has links style faiways and chipping areas (really tight), so your ball striking must be crisp. This is a tricky course so you have to play it a few times to know where not to hit the ball.

Played today, 11/4. It's a dramatic setting. Got out at 8am. Not very crowded for a Friday. This course is worth $58 during week, but not the $78 Friday rate. Greens were "okay." They are very hard and hold nothing. Fairway grass is very short, which always produces very tight lies. No real rough to speak of. They're fertilizing the tip tee boxes and the whites, so only the blues were available and they were pretty beat up from overuse. I still think Tijeras Creek is a better course.

Played Arroyo Trabuco last month and while the course is fairly short, even from the tips, it is a fun challenge. The first hole conditions are not representative of the rest of the course as the 1st hole fairway and green are a bit chewed up. Once out on the course it is a pleasure to work around the canyons and forced carries presented by the back tees. Greens are true and run about 10 on the meter. The clubhouse is a real treat and Sunday brunch after your early morning round is excellent! Highly recommended. A real gem.
