Have not played San Clemente for a while, so when I received a late invite from a friend, jumped at the opportunity. What can be nicer than spending a morning on a beautiful autumn morning walking this course, looking out over the ocean. Makes me appreciate living in Southern California.

Agree with the prior review. Greens rolled nicely, not as quick as I remember them from my last time here. Good coverage in the fairway, with a few areas which could use some attention. Not in any bunkers, but they appeared OK. Just a fun course to walk on a near perfect weather day.

Played SC Muni on 10/12 on a gorgeous October day. Course is supposed to be 3 weeks post aeration, but I saw no evidence. Greens looked great other than the attack of the ball marks.

Otherwise, standard SC Muni conditions, better condition than most courses but signs of constant play are obvious. I will say the bunkers were very nice, I saw plenty of them today.

Still the best bargain in the OC.

Played here again today, two weeks after my last visit. 1:21 tee time, started just a couple minutes late, pace was about 4:40. I rode, the rest of my group walked. One of our players bailed after nine.

Course is in really nice shape. Looks like they verticut the greens at some point recently (looks like razor blade streaks across the surface) but it doesn't affect putts at all. The greens are still very firm and medium speed. Fairways are pretty consistently great. Rough is less consistent with some discoloration and varying depths and conditions of grass. Some of the rough takes a toll on ball striking, so there's a premium on hitting the fairways. Blue tee boxes were all good. I was in several bunkers and they varied from decent to thin; I wouldn't say any of them were good or great.

Gorgeous day and perfect temps with a decent wind most of the day. Highly recommended.

Course was in pretty nice condition, although the greens are rather firm and at times a bit bumpy. Good coverage in the fairways. Bunkers had plenty of well-maintained sand.

Staff is always great here. Just a nice play to play. Fun track with enough of a challenge to keep your interest without being too penal

Played here today with a 7:30 tee time. Paired with a threesome consisting of a dad and two kids probably 12 years old. The kids started off walking but then hopped on our carts starting on No. 7. Minimal waiting and good pace, finishing in just under 4 hours. Cool and cloudy with a couple short periods of mist.

Course is in pretty good condition. The greens are healed from aeration but still very firm. They roll mostly smooth (some look better than others) and medium-fast, and especially fast downhill/downgrain. Only high, spinning full shots would stop quickly; everything else released and rolled out somewhat. Fairways have good coverage and provided good lies. The rough varied from just a little longer than the fairways to some fairly thick stuff that was definitely penal. Blue tee boxes were fine. I was in several bunkers and they were pretty good.

Recommended, but go in knowing the firm greens are making the course play tougher than normal.

Played 4/10 right before the 4/11-4/12 aeration. They did have temporary greens ready for aeration, but I don't know how long those will be in play for.

I will say the greens were not quite as firm as my last time here. This time I could get short irons to stay on greens. Chipping was difficult as the ball would not bite on the putting surface, and with the kikuyu fringe you can't land it there or it would just stop dead. Greens were rolling quite well with old ballmarks being the only issue.

The rest of the course is in very good shape. Looking forward to getting the aeration done and hopefully getting the greens back to their usual playable glory.

After all the recent rains, the course is in beautiful condition... with one exception... the greens. The greens are in serious need to aerification! Super firm, thin, and lightening fast! As the locals know, everything breaks towards the ocean, but current conditions are running even more difficult. It's like putting on a pool table! Very hard to hold shots and reading these greens is an artform. A beautiful course in a beautiful location... but expect a putting challenge!

In an attempt to avoid yet another frost delay at Coto, which seems like it's almost every day, decided to play San Clemente, knowing there would not be any frost, but what I did not expect was the greens to be so difficult. Had I read Sparky's review, I might have re-thought my decision.

Love playing this course, but it was not normal. Greens were brutal. The course itself is fine, but agree with the prior review, they need to punch the greens and/or not mow them so tight.

Staff is always great here Course is fun, reasonably priced and normally just a fun track to play, but not when the greens are so firm.
