Golf is popular! I struggled to find an attractive tee time all week and finally on Friday night a single spot for Saturday at San Clemente popped up for 1:00. Arrived about an hour early today in hopes of possibly starting early, but they were super busy. I was paired with three other singles and we started about 10 minutes late. POP was slow. I'm not sure it was any particular group's fault; the course was just very busy. Eventually all 3 other members of my group bailed out, thinking we wouldn't finish, but I ended up finishing on the 18th green with just enough light to putt out. Total POP just under 5 hours.

Conditions are mostly good. I hope I'm wrong, but the greens seemed like they're almost on the verge of losing them. They were quite thin on top of a muddy base, but rolled fast and mostly smooth. Full shots stopped quickly. As long as they stay how they are, they're fine, but if the grass thins any further, I think they'd be in trouble. Fairways are beautiful! Wall to wall carpet of green kikuyu that looks great. Might be a few less-than-ideal spots here and there, but mostly excellent conditions. The rough is understandably scruffier and not as consistent as the fairways. Blue tee boxes were a mixed bag; some good, some bad, some had tons of divots. (Both white and blue were at the very front of the 1st tee box, and then apparently due to a litigious homeowner, the back box on the 16th is closed until they can plant a tree to protect his house, which is a big bummer to neuter one of the best holes in SoCal.) I was in 3 bunkers and they were all pretty good.

Very stoked I finished and holes 15-17 were stunningly gorgeous featuring an amazing sunset with Catalina and San Clemente Islands in sight.

Late review. Because of all the frost delays at Coto, I knew San Clemente would be available. Always enjoy walking this course. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Still reasonable green fees compare... Continue »

Course is in nice condition. Greens are represented in the last review remain fast and firm. Don't "short side" yourself or there is no chance to get it close. Nice coverage in the fairways. Did not find any bunkers, but they appeared decent.

Down hill putts or chips, forget it, it's almost impossible to stop at hole. Course is playing firm and fast, especially with this mini heatwave that just rolled in. Course is short, but these rockhard greens make it extremely challenging.

Concern that there might be a frost delay I decided to venture to San Clemente where frost is never an issue. Plus, I like this course. One of the better walking courses. Greens were the best part of the course, rolled true and had good pace. Most fairways had good coverage. Rough was a bit inconsistent, but since I kept it in the fairways for the most part, not a problem. No bunkers, but they appeared OK

Staff here is always friendly and accommodating. Over all a fun day on a fun course. Always recommend this course.

Played last Wed 12/1 @7am. Overall course conditions are fine. The speed of the greens are crazy fast! Anything above the hole or putting towards the ocean is a tough two putt. Here's the deal, there only mowing the greens 2-3 times a week, but there rolling the greens everyday! Good luck trying to go an entire round without a three putt. I know I wasn't able to do it.

Played SC Muni on 10/28/21. In general, conditions were pretty standard for here. Greens a bit thin, but rolled well. Fairways good. Rough is hit and miss. Bunkers were just fine.

The one exception - the tee boxes are awful. Some might have some grass, but they were all overloaded with sand. It was like teeing off in a bunker. I can only assume this was major maintenance, having played here for years I've never seen it like this.

I'll be back, always a fun course to play, hopefully those tee boxes recover quickly.

I’ve grown up playing here. At times it’s been amazing but, I’ll be honest…. Over the last few years the overall conditioning of the course has gone downhill. The bunkers need to be reshaped and the massive lips cut down to a more normal/ playable height. ( this naturally occurs over times) and the sand is gone in most. It’s a known fact that there’s just not many people working on the course. Hole for hole, it’s a classic Bell Sr layout. The greens roll pretty good for the most part but they could benefit from rolling them more frequently. Just some attention to details would be much appreciated from all the loyal players they have at this classic gem. Service is always great . Pace of play is great. Just some more TLC would be awesome ???

Course is generally in good condition and found that to be the case again. Greens rolled well, but not as quick as I remember them. Most fairways had good coverage, but a few areas which were thin. Both bunkers I found had sufficient well raked sand. Rough was at times inconsistent.

Staff at San Clemente is always friendly and accommodating. Nice to feel welcome when you arrive in the shop. That is appreciated.

Played Monday teeing off at 7:50 finishing in just over 4 hours. The greens are in good condition rolling smooth with medium/fast speed and holding shots. The fairways have mostly good coverage with a few thin spots. The rough is mostly good with thin/bare spots primarily in the shaded areas of trees. Rough was long enough to affect shots but not overly penal. The bunkers appeared to be in good condition although I was not in any today. The tee boxes have decent coverage. Enjoyable layout with friendly staff.
