This course needs rain to get it lush again. However, it is still a fun course to play. No two holes are the same. There are many options for your tee shots. It looks like the greens would be slow and bumby, but they are OK, just hard to read. Some of the bunkers are hard clay and some have regular sand.

Played here on 7/14/07. Although mentioned that this course is busy, it is not at bad as other courses I've been at. Was able to play the course in 5 hours, started at 3p.m., ended around 8p.m. Could've finished sooner, but there was a 3-some ahead of us who played the championship tees when they weren't that good and slowed the pace of play.

Since it was after 2:30p.m., was able to get twilight walking rate for $32 and cart for $47. I walked for my foursome, I wouldn't suggest this for the summer, this course is LONG and winds around the San Juan neighborhoods so you cross streets and underpasses. I was the only walker there, no wonder they make people cart it in the morning, and this place is all hills. The location is really nice, mostly along the hillside and views to the Mission. Some homes scatter along the course that you do have to watch out for. There's a nice par 3 on top of a hill just above a lake that will try your accuracy and distance with a 7 iron.

Lots of squirrels and bunnies abound. One of the few course where you don't find lost balls, if it's lost in the bushes, it stays lost. The driving range is located across the street from the clubhouse, so park in the course area after the driving range. Good location for the price.

Played here on 6/23 and 6/29. The good: Well worth the price. weather was fantastic and I find the course pretty challenging attimes (especially holes #2, 5, 6, 10, 13, 15, 17). The bad: pace of play is pretty slow. I expect it however at a cheap municipal course. You just have to know going in what to expect. The ugly: The sand (and I use that word loosely) traps. Greenside bunkers are actually dirt moreso than sand. Impossible to hit out of. On #10, I simply took an unplayable stroke and dropped next to bunker. Oddly, many of the fairway bunkers have better sand.

Anyways, I will play again and again because it is close to home, inexpensive and fun for a relaxing round.

Played Sun. afternoon (6/24). San Juan Cap weather was excellent. Just a really fun course in South OC. If you haven't played here, give it a go. Reasonable $$. Tee boxes in good shape. Fairways were well kept. Fairway rough was pretty consistent all the way around the course. Greens were med speed and held approaches. Has some funny holes like 10 with a tree in the middle of the fairway. 15 (I think) is a great par 5 where you have to rely on the flag out there on your tee shot. Bottom line, best bang for the buck in South OC.

The greens were in terrible shape. You can't get anything close to a true roll with the amount of bumps. The pace of play was terrible..but expected. The conditions were average from tee to green. The layout wasn't too bad...you can definitely see potential..but work on the GREENS!

What a wonderful father's day this was!! Got some nice gifts from wife and kids and a great lunch to boot. I even got in a fun round of golf at San Juan Hills. The course is in decent shape albeit some usual bumpy greens mainly due to unattended ball marks. Also, some of the back nine fairways need TLC or they may look pretty bad when the real hot months stop by. It appears the course was very busy this weekend, and I give the greenskeeping staff some credit for nicely maintaining the tee boxes . Otherwise, the course is very playable. Experienced good customer service from all staff members, especially at the bar and even the cart-girl. The round took just under 5 hours on Sunday afternoon.

The course is in fantastic shape. Spoke with the superintendant and he mentioned they have new mowers for the greens and it shows. The Fairways are plush and the rough is cut to where its a challenge if you're not hitting the ball straight which is the way it should. As always the staff is the best and Tommy serves up the best breakfast beverages in town. Dollar for Dollar the best value in O.C.

It's hard to give a good review when you play so stinking bad. The course is in really good condition right now, the greens are a little slow (add 10 strokes onto my game for leaving the putt short) but the rest of the course is in really good condition and very green. The view from the 17th tee box made me take off my sunglasses and admire how green they are keeping this course. Pace of play was good, 4 hours 45 minutes. Not bad at all for San Juan. Saw the cart girl four or five times during the round and she was very pleasant. Was only $41 dollars for Sunday with the Red Dot discount. In just wish I would have played better, but that's golf.

Greens have healed from aeration, but still kinda bumpy. Everything else was in good condition. Some bare spots here and there but still a great value. Wonderful customer service.
