A little late with this - played TR Saturday 6/25, teeing off a little before 7am. Finished in about 4 hours - great pace for a Saturday. Course is in summer condition, lots of water being used to help keep it nice, some standing water in places. Tee boxes good, fairways had good coverage, starting to brown up a bit but nothing that affects play. Rough is inconsistent in places. Greens were medium fast - sadly too many golfers don't fix ball marks. It's clear TR is working to get course conditions back to what they used to be. Some GUR spots, several sections of new sod (not really in play), reshaping of some greens, etc. Played with a friend that has the membership deal, so imo rate was fair for OC golf on weekend.

Got out for a mid-afternoon round on Wednesday, March 31st to help a buddy prepare for the upcoming Mens Open Championship there next Friday. We both used to have the Players Club "Membership" here in 2020-21 but let it go when the course started to lose the greens and it had been almost a year since I have played it last.


Tee boxes were mostly good, a couple were slanted and you had to search around for a level place to tee off from.

Fairways were pretty good following the recent rain, seemed mostly green and there was usually a decent lie to hit from.

Rough was not overly long but was clumpy enough in places to sometimes have an impact on your club head/swing.

Sand traps looked like they had recently been filled with nice, new white sand. VERY fluffy and also very visually appealing to the eye. As someone whose miss out of the sand is a thin, skulled shot, I prefer to play out of fluffy sand because I know I can really go after it and have a very slim chance of catching it thin.

Greens had recently been aerated within the last 7-10 days (they gave us a $10-15 discount on the tee times as a result), so they were a little thicker and thus slower than I remember for TR. With that being said, it looks like they have taken great strides to improve the greens after losing some/most of them to a fungus. With a couple more months I think they can return this place to the track it once was.

I arrived 2 minutes before tee time after forgetting my shoes at home (DOH!!), and so the 2-some that we were supposed to be paired with took off without us. It felt like we were waiting on most of the holes, including a group and a half deep on each of the par 3's, but overall POP was nice at about 4:15, finishing just before sunset after having a 2:50 tee time.

First round of 2022 at Tustin Ranch on Saturday. Teed off around 8:20 and finished in 4 hours.
Great pace for a Saturday morning, especially with the wind. Course is in good shape, and getting better. They have done a lot of work on the greens, and it's starting to show. Quicker than I remember. Still too many ball marks - never understand why people can't take 10 seconds to repair. Tee boxes level with good coverage. Fairways are nice - they are working to get them back to the original TR standards. Beverage cart around a few times.
Staff was friendly and helpful, had a little issue with our tee time booking-was our fault but they happily corrected it. Overall a great day, even in all the wind. Rack rate is high for this course, and member rates have increased making their membership program less attractive. They are working hard to make improvements so at least the increased fees are going into the course. Still a decent option and close to home - at this point I'm just happy getting out to play anywhere! Solid playing conditions and great staff.

Tustin Ranch used to be a top ten Orange County course. Starter stated that over the years American Golf management ran it into the ground, but now that Troon manages it, they are working hard to get it back in shape. But so far, I can't see any improvement.
Start with the greens: fungus ruined them, and recovery doesn't look good. They are spotty, patchy, muddy, uneven roll and full of duck droppings (at least ten of them!) YUK. The fairways: patchy, uneven, muddy and many are cart path only, which makes for a trying day. The items at the pro shop are meager and way overpriced. The pace of play was horrendous-more than five freakin hours , to add to the misery. It's a challenging course where 30 handicappers are playing from the blues, so be prepared to bring your lunch, if not a sleeping bag.
This used to be a premium course and now it is terrible, and not worth half of what they charge for green fees. I waited a year to play Tustin Ranch and was rewarded with an awful experience, although I did birdie the #1 rated hole. Ted Robinson has got to be spinning in his grave. Save your money, time and sanity and skip Tustin Ranch.

played here mid week around noon. check-in and starter are always very friendly. tee sheet packed. course was in decent muni-like condition, as most have said in previous reviews definitely not premium. we started off on 10 as they had done some injection and sanding on the front 9 greens. tee boxes in general were fine, fairways had decent coverage with some thin spots. rough was inconsistent, with some patchy spots and generally grown low. green definition was a bit odd, it looks like they were trying to expand the greens in some spots, as it was difficult to distinguish exactly where some green borders ended. greens generally ran slow and as mentioned front was sanded with some like #1 with larger holes. layout in general not particularly interesting but it's close to home and sometimes i can find a good price. pop was about 4 1/2, felt much slower than it was. either be a member and get the discount or find a deal but don't pay rack.

Apparently Troon has recently taken over management at Tustin Ranch, and I have a marketing idea for them: The Legends at Temeku Hills Tribute Experience! Want to feel like you’re in Temecula without the long drive? Want to see more varieties of grass in one place than you’ve ever seen before? Do you enjoy slow greens with lots of bare spots around the edges? Want to pay $150 for all this? Then come to Tustin Ranch! Okay, joke over. But I did get a strong “Legends circa 2016” vibe out here today. Earlier this week while browsing TeeOff.com for times available this weekend, I saw 3 “Deal” times available at Tustin Ranch for today. Two of them later in the afternoon were $133 each, and a single available at 11:20 was only $50! With 15% off promo code, I paid just $42.50 to play here today. For the last nine months, I’ve lived within a mile or two of the course, so I was happy to play “close to home” but I’d be seriously bummed if I paid any more than what I did. First, the good: Check in was super easy, single-rider cart no problem, got paired with a twosome and another single and we actually started early, and POP was great at a little under 4 hours, even with the back nine getting a little backed up the last few holes. Conditions-wise, it’s really hard for me to rate this place without factoring in their absurdly high rack rates. (I know, I know – it’s Orange County/“Do you know how much that land is worth?”) Overall, the course was very playable, but not especially pleasing to the eye (very blotchy and inconsistent everywhere you look), and the greens are still recovering from both the fungus issue that struck last summer and aeration about a month ago. Greens are slow, difficult to read, lots of evidence of large-hole aeration still apparent, and many have big bare spots around the edges or just off the edges. I played with a member who pointed out paint lines where the new Troon management apparently plans to increase the size of the greens to their original size. (I’d focus on just getting them good first.) The greens were quite soft and when you fixed a ball mark, they almost seemed to disintegrate into sand. Greens on the back nine did seem a little better/more healed than those on the front nine. Looks like the GK aeration alert has expired, but it’ll be a while before the holes are completely gone and no longer a factor. Fairways had decent coverage, but definitely not what I expect for a $150 price tag course. Seems like lots of different grasses. Because the rough was more grown out than the fairway, it seemed in a little better condition. Ball sat up top for the most part. I was only in fairway bunkers and they were pretty good. Blue tee boxes were all fine. I should probably stop playing here entirely. I only play here if it’s free or severely discounted, and even then, I still get frustrated with the fact they seem to thrive despite the quality of course they provide relative to price. Not sure what else to say beyond that.

Played Saturday 4.17.21 in an early tee slot. This course is nice and is good shape right now, but there is NO WAY on God's green earth that this course should be as expensive at it is. This course is flat, relatively benign, and sandwiched between a million apartments. It is a longer version of Birch Hills. They should be charging half the cost that they do. Apparently they are under new management and have made some recent changes. The greens were still healing from aerification, had some bald patches, and were firm. The bunkers were excellent, and the fairways were good for the most part. Couple thin spots, but not many. I don't mind this course, but for the cost, I cannot justify playing here that often.
