Good conditions on a decently challenging course. I have some mixed opinions here though.
Trying to keep it short...
Showed up early to have breakfast, didn't know they don't open until 10 and have a very limited sandwich, hot dog or hamburger menu. Pro shop manager had to come try to help us cuz waitress didn't stroll in until 10:10. She actually never even came to our table even though we were the only ones there. That said, sandwich was good and manager accommodating so not a big deal. I'm not a pickey a**. We are here for the golf after all.
Just wanted to point this out because if you are looking for breakfast there is nothing else around so eat before you come.
Practice facilities good, starter super friendly, let us out early. All good. Good dunes course with some hidden pot bunkering and lots and lots of undulation. Winds were howling after about fourth hole and GPS went out. Many blind shots to the green so I turned the score card over to find... No overview of the layout! Boo. This should be mandatory on scorecards in my opinion, especially on this course and especially if you don't have gps on your carts. Good pace of play. No holes were overly memorable but still a good course. Fairways had some tight lies and were a bit thin at times. Sand good at times, just ok at times, but never terrible. Five pin positions and we had #1. #1 is pins tucked into corners on 80% of the holes so with the wind, first time playing, no gps and lots of blind shots probably made it less memorable than maybe it could have been. That said, please don't misconstrue this review. It is not a bad course. I would play here again. Just some unexpected nuances that detracted a bit from the day. Sorry for the winded review.

8.5/10. Yes we have had some rain, and humidity is up, BUT, all aspects are lush and well presented. It is not a back handed compliment.

8.5/10. Yes we have had some rain, and humidity is up, BUT, all aspects are lush and well presented. It is not a back handed compliment.
Some marks subtracted due to cores still visible in tee boxes, and sparse brown patches on a few fairways. Greens are magic, smooth and slightly firm, with moderate speed. Fairways lush, and rough very lush and thick. Sand good throughout. Absolutely a solid layout with good challenge. Pick your days as it is exposed to wind.
Teed off 0920, single, as two others were no show. Overcast in the desert (??), light breeze, and a golfnow.com price dragged me out there; I am glad I went. No drinks cart today, lots of water stations and good prac-fac supported by nice friendly staff makes a return automatic.

This course was better than I thought. There are many holes using old native trees as fairway definers. The wind in the afternoon must be unbearable. Everything across the board is in good to great shape out here. I hope to play here again someday but start earlier in the day.

I will dissent slightly from most other reviewers and say that while this is a nice course, I think there are more enjoyable/challenging desert courses worth consideration first. To me it had something of that unmemorable feel where when you get off the course at the end, no holes really stick in your mind. Most of the par 4's are fairly similar, position type holes that are short in length with a dog leg at the landing area. Holes 10 and 11 play away and then back towards the club house in the least interesting part of the course that feels like it was shoe-horned in there to make up 18. 2 interesting finishing holes on each nine though.

Conditions were not as good as the other courses I played this weekend as decent amounts of fairway and rough are burning out. Greens were slower than molasses (I know, they get like that this time of year but these were beyond slow - six footers had to be powered downhill and still would come up short). Sand was, if anything, overly fluffy! But that is not a problem.

Good course for the deals you get right now (30-40 bucks) but there are a ton of other tracks I would play first.

Played Desert Dunes for the first time this morning and had a blast. I really enjoyed this course and the more rugged desert setting on the "other side" of the 10 freeway. No houses on the course and beautiful mountain vistas in every direction. A fun links style layout with a lot of mounding. Fairways are pretty wide and sprawling, but desert hazard areas can come into play on most holes. Holes 10 and 11 offer a unique change of pace with big trees lining the fairways, but rest of the course is a pretty open desert setting.

Had a 8:08 time on GolfNow ($63, well worth it), but got there early and they let me out with an earlier group. Finished in just over 4 hours and ideal pace of play. Perfect weather today and course is in great shape. Some of the grass still seems to be coming in, but the fairways were consistent, most of the rough was pretty lush and tee boxes were level. Greens were in pretty good shape, though a little firmer than I prefer. Bunkers were fine. Excellent course in my opinion!

Played on 1/19/11. Course was in nice shape. It is a tough course if you can't hit the ball straight. There are several blind shots and the fairways are quite narrow. The desert runs along both sides of the fairway on nearly every hole so if you don't hit straight you're more than likely looking at a lost ball. Fairways were quite lush and the greens rolled true. With a discount, it's a nice course to try out.

Two of us played Monday Jan 2, 1130 tee time. Not too busy (4+10) on a really good track with lots of challenge. Links style with drying fairways and aprons to greens, which are moist, holding well, and true/smooth, fairly quick as well. Rough is dry, lush in spots, around 1-2 inches, but easy to hit out of. Sand, tee boxes are good. A very engaging layout, (good short game required), thought provoking for shot selection/shape to hit the targets. Lots of drinks cart passes, good service in pro shop, bag drop and grill. Did not see any marshals today. Good prac/fac. Choose your day as the wind can really blow here.
Definitely recommended, with a deal.

Played 12/28. Course was in great shape. Tee boxes were perfect. Fairways had a few thin spots but they were few and far between. Bunkers were a little thin but it was easy to adjust to the conditions. The only complaint was with the pace of play. I played in a threesome behind two threesomes. They were two holes behind on the fourth tee! Not a marshal to be seen. We made calls to the proshop to no avail. My group played through both groups at the turn and had free sailing until a marshal stopped us on the 14th hole and informed us we were two holes behind. After explaining the slow groups in front of us, the marshal said he was going to put groups in front of us to fill the gap. Naturally we complained which only caused this particular marshal to behave like a child. He intentionally drove up on us mid swing. We did have words. Can't wait to play the course again in the summer when no one, including useless marshals, won't be on the course.
