Played this course Friday 1-11-13. First off. I will say. They have done a fantastic job of overseeding the tees, fairways and greens. And allowing the dormat bermuda to do its job. The contrast of the dormat bermuda and the overseeded fairways really gives you a great way to view the course. With that said, course was in superb shape from tee to green. Course has mulitple tees for all levels. Not a difficult course. Has some nice water features, plenty of sand and mounds to save an offline tee shot. We must of caught this course in benine conditions. No wind. Check the weather before you go. Its fairly close to the freeway. Wind could be a factor. Other than that. Its a good course and will paly it again.

Played out here this morning as the first part of a 36-hole day at Westin Mission Hills. Used my GroupGolfer unlimited play voucher for $89 and that was a good deal for both of these courses together. Had a 7:58 time, which was first group off the tee as they were anticipating a frost delay. There was no frost delay today, though, so they were letting us off earlier if wanted, so I joined with a twosome and we went off around 7:30 for a nice three-hour round. When I made the tee time the day before, they told me to show up at the Dye course first and then they'd shuttle me over to the Player course a mile away. HOwever, when I got there they told me I was supposed to drive over myself and check in directly with the Player pro shop. Kind of annoying, but it worked out fine.

THe Player course is in nice playing shape right now. The fairways are great. Like carpet in many areas and a little thin still in others. Lots of run-out, which is nice to see this time of year. Rough nice golden dormant for a cool contrast with green of fairways. Greens were nice, as well, running at medium speeds. I found the greens hard to read as nothing seemed to break nearly as much as it looked. Bunkers full of good, consistent sand.

Though I wasn't blown away by the course, I enjoyed the layout well enough and ended up preferring this course over the Dye course. The back nine is more interesting and challenging than the front with a lot of water in play.

Played 12/29. Had 8:46 time but due to frost delay teed off about an hour later. Course very busy in the morning but moved along nicely as we finished in just over 4 hours. Nice contrast of perfect green fairways and dormant brown rough. Couldn't find anything to complain about as the playing condition was just great. Highly recommend.

Good Ole Gary Player would be proud.

Service, facilities and course presentation are very close to immaculate.
Three of us played from 0750 today behind the 'men's' club and finished in 4+45; not too bad. Greens are immaculate with smooth fast rolls and still holding fine. Just a few ball marks to tend to.
Every other aspect of tees through greens is lush and well done. 9/10
Great layout. Really a good time to play here.

Played out here on Friday and the course is in great shape for all the heat the desert has been in. Fairways were great and Rough was very penal and thick in lots of areas. The ball just sinks down in the bermuda and tough to judge how it will come out. Greens rolled great and were fairly fast but held shots well. Only complaint might have been greenside bukers, a few were very hard packed and hard to get your wedge from bouncing into the ball. Customer service great from the pro shop to the cart girl and I was glad to get in a round at a course that was not yet scalped and being overseeded.

Out as a single on Sunday morning 9/23/12 7:00am tee time...3rd group out joining a very friendly three ball. 1st time playing this beautiful course...we were staying at the resort so I paid $50.00 on a Sunday morning and they also threw is a $10.00 chip for any golf merchandise in the pro-shop. Great touch and a heck of a deal for this course! Pace of play was 4 hours behind the 1st group out who were seniors...they actually played fairly fast but we waited on them for most of the day.

I was greeted with a warm welcome from the staff including cart barn staff, starter and general manager whom were all very pleasant, friendly and professional. I also ordered some food at the clubhouse and staff were great there as well. In talking with their staff they commented how the Pete Dye course right by the Westin resort is receiving a face lift and construction.

The Gary Player Westin course should be very proud of their conditions. When I teed off it was already 80 degrees at 7am.. The course is in very good shape. I encountered great lies in the fairways with lush grass. The greens were bermuda greens that were super soft and receptive. They held irons beautifully and putted very true. I felt the greens for me personally were slow but were in great shape. It was a pleasure to hit off lush and level tees as well. The one bunker that I was in was raked with nice packed sand. The courses major defense at this time is got to be the rough. I was warned ahead of time to stay in the fairway which I was lucky to do on most holes. The rough bordering the fairways was not super long but your ball would sink down deep requiring sometimes just an advancement with a 9 iron or so. It was also in great shape and also punitive around the green complexes. . The course itself has some small green complexes which puts a premium on hitting approach shots to precise areas. Off the tee there are for sure some tight holes but also some holes where you can let it rip off the tee. There are several lakes and out of bounds that comes into play on tee and approach shots alike. Most of the course is surrounded by homes. For sure its a resort type of feel and a really fun course to play. I played the gold tees at 6643 yds and enjoyed a good scoring round. I can see big numbers on a course like this though if you are off the fairways in the rough all day or not precise with your irons. I would describe this course as a beautiful resort type course with some nice challenges on several holes..for sure recommended...thanks to the Mission Hills staff for making the day a very good day of golf.

Tees-good, fairways-carpet like, rough-lush and 2 inches, sand-good, greens-perfect; smooth, true, medium speed and holding well. This course should be played NOW.
Very quiet day today, at 1130 tee time, single, and I saw ONE golfer. Three hours later, and after some rain it was over.
Lots of water stations, good drinks cart passes (even though it was a slow day), great prac-fac, and superb layout made it a fine day.

Played on Saturday morning the 18th and the course is in fantastic shape for being the 18th of August. Fairways lush, as well as the rough. Greens were in great shape and rolled nicely with very little bouncing that you normally get in the desert in the summer. They were busy because the pete dye is shut down and were going of the 1st and 10th tees which slowed down the round but we still finished in about 4:15. Courses in the desert are in some of the best shape I have ever seen in the past 15 years in the summer. Got this course for 29 bucks unlimited golf on a Group Golfer deal and it was well worth it.
