Was able to book for $38 online for a Sunday. Great deal, and the course was in great shape for this time of year. Only one green edge was yellowed, but generally the course was in fantastic shape.

Greens were rolling smooth, not too difficult for the average golfer (no crazy undulations).

I played a morning time here on 05/27/12 from the Gold tees at 71.3/124/6643. The course is a good development course (not a desert layout), and like a lot of the courses in the Palm Springs area there were homes surrounding many of the holes. However, it required a squirrely shot on many of those holes for the homes to come into play. The course was in great shape for this time of year (granted most Troon managed courses are in good shape) with no burnt out patches and the greens were the best of any of the five courses that I played on my trip. I did not make many putts, but that was due to the subtle breaks. The par 3’s, although short from the tees that I played, set up well and my favorite hole was the 5th, a 160 downhill par 3 that was highlighted by a large water feature on the tee and short of the green. While not overly difficult on the rating and slope, water came into play on many holes so a high number could be had if not hitting it well. The course had a great finishing hole, a dog leg right, with water down the right side. It was flat, and could be walkable at the right time of year and was a relaxing course to play without any hidden tricks. The value was average for a weekend morning this time of year at $75, but if someone could play an afternoon time when rates drop the course is definitely a good play. Finally, the practice facility is top notch with a large driving range, couple practice greens, and a well rolling putting green.

Played 6/20 at 8 AM on a beautiful morning. The course is in excellent condition, the fairways are like carpets and the greens were in very good shape and rolled nicely. I played this course 15 years ago before all the houses were built on it. Although there are houses along the course they are far back and you don't feel too closed in. A very fair track and in great condition.

Nice resort course overall - fun to play with enough challenges and sights to keep you engaged. Course starts pretty mundane with 2 somewhat unmemorable holes, but it picks up after that with more variety and picturesque hole routings. Palm Springs style layout with houses on either side of most fairways.

Conditions-wise, it was in very good shape mainly for early summer. Greens were slow as to be expected at this time of year, but run fairly true. Fairways generally lush carpet throughout - not much rough to speak of. Sand I was in was good (firmer in the fairways) and the tee boxes were mainly level with moderate divot damage on par 3's and shorter 4's.

In terms of play, each hole is wide open off the fairway and with little rough to penalize wayward shots - you really have to spray it to get into real trouble behind trees etc. Mainly it's a second shot golf course. I found most greens to be smaller than average with occasional bunkering, but most of the defense came in the form of plenty of swales and grass bunker areas in closely mowed aprons that were strategically placed close in and see a lot of action. As well as being small, the greens have weird little lobes here and there so they can really tuck pins and/or (as they did today) cut them extra close to the collection areas. As I found out, going for pins cut close to the edge was a bad idea as being a little off meant you were short-sighted in the collection area with a very hard-up and down. Better idea is mainly to fire for the middle of the green - as they are smallish you will still have decent looks at birdies. Added to this is the fact that other than their odd shapes and size, the greens didn't really contain any severe breaks once you were on them.

All in all very enjoyable and relatively low stress desert golf - much recommended.

Had a 10:38 tee time but was able to tee off around 10am as a 2some. Not too busy as most were 2somes this morning. Perfect day with no wind. Tees and fairways were perfect and as a resort type course, rough is minimal and the area around the greens are very easy to chip from. We had to wait for the 2some in front on half the holes but still managed to finish under 4 hours. Really enjoyed playing in almost perfect conditions today and look forward to coming back soon before it gets too hot.

Early morning Tuesday March 27 tee time with a four ball playing. This weekend is a big tournament here for International future collegiate tour pros, so the course is REALLY tricked up.
Easy check in with friendly, helpful staff, got us out early, and we finished in 4 hours. Course is immaculate; tees to greens are lush and superbly manicured and presented. Greens were holding moderately, smooth and not too fast. Grass around greens complexes is lush, and trimmed perfectly, allowing you to either chip OR putt on to the surface. Rough off the fairways along the course is a mix of dormant and growing grasses of varying thickness. Fairways are green, lush and running. Sand was good all around. The layout is really a lot of fun and a good challenge, but keeps the pace of play sensible and the golfer engaged with nice vistas. Lots of drinks cart passes, good grill food, and great prac-fac put smiles on our faces. We had a Groupon voucher allowing us to play unlimited at the Westin properties; Pete Dye review on the other page.

I played this course during the Christmas break and was I glad I did. The rate was good from golfnow.com. I love the layout of the course and very interesting design. I would definitely play it again! The service was great! I love the winter trim! The Greens were fast and I just loved it.

First time playing the Gary Player course. Got a good rate $89, I was the first person to do their new "Walk the Westin" program, in fact the cart guy had to put the push cart together right out of the box !! You also get lunch, pedometer and water bottle with the program. This course is very walker friendly, no real long hikes, or tough hills. Anyway the course just came out of over-seeding, and was in excellent shape. The greens were running slow, as they really hadn't had a chance to cut them to their usual height, so that made for slow greens, the greens actually had a lot of ball marks on them, which simply means that people are not repairing their ball marks.....bad on you!!. Everywhere else was great, lush fairways, and the dormant rough was pretty thick, the ball sits down in it, so stay out of it, the fairways are generous, there are fairway bunkers and some green-side bunkers, but fortunately I never went into any bunkers so can't say what the sand was like. there are some water hazards as well that do come into play, but again the fairways are wide enough to give you lots of bail out room. It was slow today, four and a half hours, group in front of us just couldn't keep up to the one in front of them, we could have been done 30 minutes earlier. Service was excellent (Troon). The pro shop and grill are very small and are like temporary structures, but my guess is they aren't temporary! I had screwed up the tee time - by a DAY on the internet booking system, so called and Mike in the pro shop was very helpful and accommodating in changing it for me. I'd play it again.
