Played my GK Cup match here this afternoon with Thingstodo. It was kind of a last-minute plan, so we just picked the course and didn't really shop around. I booked the time directly on their site for $39 (with cart) at 3:12. Traffic was dreadful, so we both were running a little late. It was no big deal as we teed off around 3:20 as a twosome. We caught up and joined another twosome on the second tee. There were slower groups ahead, but things moved along OK and there was no worry about finishing before dark. Ultimately, about a 4-hour pace.

From tee to green, the course is in excellent shape. Only issues were greens and bunkers. The tee boxes are very good. The fairways are fantastic—lush with lots of perfectly fluffy lies. The rough was thick and lush. Some areas were deeper than others, so it varied in terms of how penal it was. It made a difference in our match as my ball tended to sit up while Mike found some unfortunately buried lies. I was in the nasty greenside bunker on #9, and the sand was terrible. That is such a tough bunker, it's ridiculous it never has any sand in it!!! The greens were also somewhat disappointing by Goose standards. Of course, it was late in the day, so the grass naturally gets slower and bumpier. It seemed a bit worse than normal today, though. Putts were definitely fairly slow, but the surfaces were very firm and approach shots were very difficult to hold. Chips would also run out much more than putts. It's a tough combination on these tricky greens.

Other than the greens and bunkers being less than stellar, it was another fun day at Goose Creek. I always look forward to any excuse to play here, especially in the company of fellow GK'ers!
