It’s always a fun round at Goose Creek Golf Club. The weather was a bit threatening but it never rained and myself along with 7 other GK Review Guru’s had a great time. Conditions were excellent with the reseeding coming in beautifully. We followed the Inland Empire Pro/Am Match Play so the pin placements were in some cases diabolical but never unfair. Greens were running mostly smooth, holding shots and about an 11 speed. The fairways all lush as was the rough. Rough was maybe 2 inches high and not much of a hindrance. Sand traps I found were all in good shape with quality sand. The tee boxes lush and level. Excellent pace of play as we finished in under 4 ½ hours. It was a great day to be playing Goose Creek.

Fun layout for sure. Easy bogey yet tough par as they say. Hole 18 is as challenging as they come for a par 4 IMO. Some interesting risk reward Par 5’s and Par 3’s (hole 11 is my favorite par 3 - nice birdie abbacat!) Flat layout with a good variety of holes. Doglegs in both directions, well protected undulating greens, trees to work your ball around and some tight tee shots.

Clubhouse is very cozy. Good food and excellent beer to finish off your day. Service is always terrific and friendly with everyone you meet at the course. I wish it was closer to me as there would not be a month I would not want to play it.

Played out here on Sunday the 21st. Course is in fantastic condition even if my game isn't. I managed to hit most of the course, luckily didn't strike any trees. Course is a definite challenge from the blues which our group was lucky enough to play. A few times you'll be, where's the tee box? Oh! it's back there!!

Not much to say about the conditions out there. Every condition I have to say pretty much the same thing. First thing you might say is, Wow this place is green.

Never had a problem finding a flat spot to tee off from.

The rough is manicured great. As much as I found the rough, never found any bare spots.

When I managed to hit a fairway I always found a great great lie.

The sand while not quite lush was easy to hit out of on the green side bunkers.

The fairway bunkers were played great, easy enough to hit out of when I found them.

The greens rolled flat, true and couldn't find one complaint about them.

My biggest complaint is that my ball enjoyed the course so much it never wanted the hole to end so it just wouldn't go in the cup.

Played today with the GK Gurus. I got there early to warm up- they have one of the best grass driving ranges. The huge putting green really gives you a good idea of how tricky the greens are on the course. Good thing, because just looking at the course with the wide, mostly flat fairways, it gives the impression that it’s going to be easy but it’s definitely not. Conditions were great. The fairways were lush and green, only one tee box (reds) had slightly uneven footing, the bunker sand was clean and soft and the greens were wickedly fast and wavy. Thanks to Robert, Steve, David, Johnny and Goose Creek for a very fun day.

Just back from the Guru outing at Goose Creek and let's just say the Goose is flying! The incredible deal we got to play this great course was pretty awesome, and had some very enjoyable company with Wendy, Steve and David (abbacat, sr129 and dconnally). The weather turned a tiny bit on us later in the round with some cold breezes and winds, but nothing too bad overall. Goose Creek is in pretty great shape right now. The fairways were in fantastic condition and never had a bad lie all day. I wouldn't venture to call it exactly lush, but excellent coverage and ideal shot surface. The rough was also at a nice length to still hit from if you found it, but demanded concentration. There are definitely some areas to get in trouble at Goose Creek, but if you hit good shots, you're well rewarded. The greens were running very fast and, save for a very few, were in fine condition. Very few ball marks to speak of so that means the clientele are doing a good job of looking out for the course. As far as the green complexes go, well, they're penalizing with the greens as fast as they are (maybe an 11?). The collection areas were getting plenty of attention today as any balls coming in even remotely hot were going for a ride. Very, very tough pin placements today. Tee boxes (our group played from the whites) were in great shape - level and lush. And the bunkers seemed to be okay - I only ended up hitting out of the fairway variety so their lack of deep sand was appreciated. I heard no complaints from the others about the quality greenside. As I'm sure many others will mention, the layout at the Goose is really fun. The final three holes are quite a challenge, most notably the beast at 18. Par is a great score there if you can get it. We saw the cart girl come around once or twice so that was fine, and the POP would have been much better if it weren't for that awfully slow foursome in front of us ... oh wait, was that Johnny and the rest of the group? No, POP was just fine. You want to take your time here to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the sheer fun of all the holes. It's a good day out. So yes, highly recommend a visit to Goose Creek right now if you can make it out. Even at the full rate, it's well worth it - which is a lot more than you can say for other comparably priced courses in the SoCal area. Goose Creek delivers in so many ways. I look forward to bringing some of my out of town friends who often say there are no good public courses around LA. Play here once and that won't be said again.

Played Goose Creek Sunday Oct 2, Had a 7:30 tee time, teed off right on time. The starter was very informative as to the maintenance that Goose will be doing for the next month. I thought the course was in good shape heading into maintenance, no issues with the tee boxes or fairways. Was not in any traps so can't comment there. POP was over 4:25 so ok, had to wait on the 4 some in front of us most holes, and we were walking....

I guess because of the upcoming maintenance they are not taking their normal care of the greens. A lot of pox marks, unrepaired ball marks and absolutely no sand in the bunkers. After I was in one and... Continue »

I guess because of the upcoming maintenance they are not taking their normal care of the greens. A lot of pox marks, unrepaired ball marks and absolutely no sand in the bunkers. After I was in one and playing partner was in one and we were unable to get out, the next time I was in one I hit backwards into the fairway and had about a 50yd shot to the green, A lot better than staying in the bunker. Other than that everything was fine except for the ding dongs behind us. Hit into us twice, don't know what their problem was as we were on a 4 hour pace and right on the butts of the group ahead of us. It sure was nice to have a cool morning for a lovely walk. Have a good weekend everyone.

While the fairways and rough are the usual verdant green (with some occasional burnt areas - something like 10% overall), the greens were sub-par. They looked a bit raggedy and putted how they looked. Lots of poorly healed pitch marks too, and a fair number of un-repaired recent ones. Overall, I thought they needed rejuvenating with some aeration.

I was in both fairway and greenside traps and both were crusty, thin and compacted.

POP was great at 4.15 hours on Sunday morning prime-time, but the overall conditions were below the usual high standard you have come to expect here. I would rate it about 6 - 6.5 overall.

Just played today with a couple Meetup.com groups, club vs. club combined match play/team play. The course was in fine shape. Four tee times around 10:00, $88/player. POP about 4:45. Greens were soft, but running fast and smooth. There was quite a large area on the front of #5 green that was in poor shape, most likely due to fungus. It might have been a great idea to put the pin towards the back of that green rather than the front. LOL! Other than that, and fixing many a ball mark, it was all good as far as the conditions of the greens. Fairways and rough were great with good grass coverage. Tees were level and not too much divot damage. Bunkers were mostly mixed as far as conditions; many traps were too wet and hard-packed while others looked fine with ample amounts of fine, white sand. For $88, I might pass next time.

Played this morning in just under 3 1/2 and took our time, not sure what is going on but the Goose was below it's normal condition, a lot of tight lies in the fairways and hard enough where you wouldn't leave a divot. Greens were real bumpy and sort of dried out. Not worried though, it will get back to it's good shape in awhile I'm sure.
