georgec and I used the GK Coupon out here today ($39 after 11:00 w/cart) for our GK Cup match. I hadn't played here since they combined the two courses, so that was fun to see the new layout.

Conditions are very good right now. It's not pristine, but for the price and location, tee boxes, fairways and greens are all very solid. The rough was nasty deep in some spots and then maybe 2-3 inches in other places. I was in one bunker and it was fine. Pace of play was great, just over 4:00.

I can't think of any complaints, unless I mention the unwelcome reception I received – as I approached the pro shop entrance, a bird flew so close to my face that I felt its feathers brush against my nose! Never had that happen before! :-)

Played Sat morn Apr 19. This a fun course to play. It's rustic and raw, and holes 3-12 sit among some nice countryside. It's a muni, so don't expect resort style grooming. But GRiver is a fun challenge and the wind can be fierce. They have grass range here, and the staff is friendly. Beware the green surrounds - it's kikuyu grass and it is very sticky. Some holes have trouble on both sides, so pick your tee lines carefully. Holes 13-18 are jammed into a smaller footprint, so be careful - lots of balls flying all directions.

Hadn't played Green River is some time - pleasantly surprised by the shape of the fairways, tees and bunkers. Very nice lies in the fairways, bunkers in great shape and tees were very nice. Greens were a bit firm for my liking but they were pretty smooth. Overall a very pleasant afternoon round with only a couple instances of play slowing down. Looks like they are working on cobbling together another 9 holes on the Orange County side of the course.

Played a mid morning round today. Walked on and got on within 15 minutes. They have a great senior rate that starts after 9am. Course is in the best shape I have seen here since they started all the construction. Tees, fairways, rough and greens are all green and lush. Was in a couple of traps and there was plenty of sand. POP was just over 4 hours. Caught it on a day with little wind. Will return soon to play before they punch the greens.

I haven't played Green River in a few months and was only disappointed in a few aspects of the course. Pace of play was what felt like an extra long 5 hours. I arrived 30 minutes before my tee time, which I should have booked online. All the online prices was $27(golfnow and the Green River website) so I figured that was the price for the day, I should have asked, I was charged $45 which is the most I have ever paid here. I guess I shouldn't have assumed. Tee boxes - a little chewed up, but playable. Fairways - for the few I hit they were good, with a few thin spots. Rough - a very mixed bag from thin to lush, with different grasses throughout. Bunkers - not good at all, just fluffed up dirt and thin. No sand at all. Greens - the first 11 holes have bare spots on the greens. The Marshall told me that when they punched the greens a few months back, they punched too deep and killed the roots. Holes 12 through 18 are a whole different story, receptive and it great shape with no damage. Customer service - the Marshall was on top of his game. After 10 holes the group in front of us was a hole and a half behind the group that was in front of them, which were a hole and a half behind the group in front of them. When we talked to 2 of the 4 guys in front of us, while they were sitting enjoying a beer, told us they were in a tournament, which trumps other play and we should shut the "f" up, all the while the marshal was sitting listening to this. He got on the radio and took off. When we got to the 13 the tee box the group in front of up were made to skip holes and catch up to the group in front of them, which were told the same thing. The Marshal gave each us up a coupon for a free cart next time we play there. The apology, the coupon and the action of the staff at Green River was great. More courses need to take a stand like this.

I played on Monday 12/2/13 . The price was $ 17. to walk after 9:am . The fairways are in good shape . The Tee boxes where not that good , some were uneven . The sand traps looked like they could use more sand but were playable . The Greens on the Riverside course side , are in BAD shape . They look like they have a bacteria problem . The good news Holes 17 & 18 are back in play . Back to back par 5's . I'm thinking the price of $17 is because the greens were in bad shape ???

Just played on 10/25/13. As scheduled, they just punched the greens. Biggest disappointment is hole 17, a par 5, is now a short par 4 with a temporary green and 18, another par 5 is a par 3. The course is undergoing serious construction in that part of the course to finish the adjacent canals. They still charge full price.

Customer service is great, but management hasn't replaced many of the well-placed trees that have been removed by mother nature and maintenance guys. The course doesn't have the same character. It seems there is little effort to improve the course.

Call and ask about 17 and 18 before booking your time.

Otherwise the course was in its normal "ok" condition. Sure do miss having both courses - not a real fan of the new combination 18

$37 golfnow rate for mid-day Sunday. Checked in at clubhouse and was told to go out when ready. No Starter, although the Marshal came by on hole three and paired us with two other guys behind us. Greens are poor / burned out on the first six or seven holes, then they start to get better. Fairways are good. Traps are hard packed. Tee boxes a little below average. Water on a couple of holes, nothing major. Wide, tree lined fairways - hit straight and there won't be too many problems. Pretty basic design. 4.5 hr round. Could have been shorter but everyone in our foursome was hacking it up. VERY WINDY for about an hour on the front nine - flags bending and balls moving on the greens WINDY. Trains rumbled by, blasting their horns on a couple of holes. Course is an ok value for the $37 weekend rate I paid. I wouldn't pay more for this course. If you get a cheap rate, I guess it will do in a pinch. It didn't seem that busy. Many other courses I would choose before it, so I probably won't be back.
