Played on 2/5/11. It was the worst experience. First, the starter would not want to check us in until way past our reserved tee time. It was at least 30 min delay. Second, there were no carts available. We had to wait until some carts were returned from the early morning rounds. Third, there were just too many golfers on the course, and the pace of play was extremely slow. We were unable to finish the course although we tee off at 12:15pm and there were more than 5 hours of daylight left. Fourth, there no sand in bunkers at all. They simply do not know how to maintain bunkers. Fifth, all our carts (all four of them, we were a group of two foursomes) ran out of battery on carts even before we finished the front 9. The pro shop would not replace them on course. We had to go to cart barn to replace them. Sixth, one employee removed flag stick before it was dark and while we were still playing. Don't play here. It was not worth it.

As the President of Hidden Valley Golf Club, I find many remarks of my course very humerous. The California Golf Course Owners Association just gave us the 2010 -2011 Public Golf Course of the Year Award for California and next Wednesday night in Orlando, the National Golf Course Owners Association names the Public course of the year for the whole country and we are one of the three finalists. So for someone to play my course and give us a 5 or 6 on their scale means they are either golf genuises or the 25 person panel that selects these awards [golf course owners and golf journalists ] are absolutely knuckleheads - you decide.

After 14 inches of rain, sand traps are packed almost like concrete, it takes man hours and hard work to get them back, when we loose almost 10,500 square feet of golf course due to the rain and erosion, it takes man hours and hard work to secure those areas.

For the person who wrote in that we crammed in holes to fit - wow is all I can say.

I thank all the players that come to Hidden Valley, we are a mom and pop owned course that tries as hard as we can to deleiver a great quality course for the value......

Played on Sat. the 15th. Outside the group in front of us the pace of play was quite good for a weekend. This is a challenging course. Lots of rolling hills and elevation changes. Some holes seem more like "We have to fit a few more holes to get 18 so lets just squeeze them in here." But most are very unique. Tee boxes were unlevel, chewed up and sometimes a hump. Sand traps were hard packed with lots of pebbles. A few fairways will roll your shot right off the fairway into the rough no matter how far to the upside you go. My wife hit a shot in the right rough on 10 and it rolled all the way across to the left rough. That said if you know what your up against this is a fun course. Very scenic views. The most challenging greens I have played in a long time. I don't think there is a flat putt anywhere out there and if it looks like it is your in for a surprise. The rains caused some damage and a few holes were cart path only but most were in good shape. Suggestion on that would be a reminder to take your sand bottles with you . The fairways that were path only were covered with unfilled divots. I was guilty of same. There are lots of hazards so be careful or you will lose a lot of balls. I would play here again but would look at other courses nearby as well.

Played 1/15 with GKers in a match play. This is a gorgeous course with the potential for being a fantastic course. Course knowledge is a HUGE plus here. The fairways are hard and the ball gets a lot of roll but that roll can take you from the middle or high side of the fairway all the way into the rough on the low side! Definitely you will be penalized if you don't account for the slope! The greens are in great shape and FAST. Lots of break - fun once you get used to it! Nice views from the course, lots of elevation changes. Cart girls came by quite a few times. Food is great. But they need to work on marshaling and course management....

Played Hidden Valley based on the recommendations on Greenskeeper and I was not that impressed. I guess I expected more.

The Good

1. layout is challenging. It is important to play the appropriate tee box for your abilities.

The Bad

1. When I played there were a lot of bees. Tons. I got stung by one on the left hand right after I hit my Hybrid shot. Not a good omen.
2. Range was nothing special.
3. This course is pretty tough because of the massive boulders in the middle of the fairways or right off the rough.
4. The GPS is a strange thing. Very small and hard to read but glad they had one.
5. The carts here suck! If you drive slightly off path they seem to be able to sense that you are not where you are suppose to be. For instance, we went right on a par 5 into the dirt. When looking for our ball the cart completely died and we had to push it and go in reverse before it would start again.

Overall, I find this course to be a poor man's Oak Quarry.

Played a great round of golf today at Hidden Valley in Norco. I was fortunate to play with the owner, Jay Miller, who is a heck of a player and an ever better person. Hidden Valley is one of the most scenic courses I have played. The views are absolutely amazing especially on a clear, sunny day like today. I didn't know what to expect with all the rain we have had over the past few days, however, the course drained very well and was in excellent condition. The greens were a little slow, as I understand they are usually quite fast, but the roll was true and in great shape. Lots of elevation changes and fun holes to go with it.

Most importantly to me was the level of customer service. From the pro shop to the cart girl to the bar area and restaurant, they treat you like a million bucks! I watched the interaction throughout my time there and I witnessed people that love what they do and do it with a passion which makes it more fun for all. Couple that with a beautiful scenic course and you have the makings of a memorable day no matter how you play.

Kudos to Coach Jay "Bird" Miller and his entire staff at Hidden Valley for doing such a great job and making me feel so welcomed. I will be coming back again and again!

Please remember our corvette give a way, everytime you play you receive a free raffle ticket to win this car. I want to wish all golfers a great holiday and memorable Christmas. As a industry all of us owners are trying the best we can to offer good golf conditions at affordable pricing and praying our economic conditions change for the best.

This is the time of the year when 50% of our fairways [Bermuda] go dormant. It has nothing to do with turf quality, it has everything to do with night time temperatures going under 50 degrees. Most courses these days including ours do not over seed anymore, the cost to do so is $45,000 and with the state of the golf economy we simply can't afford it. What it does do for the golfer is give them about 15 yards more in roll and nice tight lies to crisp irons shots from.

The turf has really died off here - lots of yellow and burnt-out/dry lies in the fairway and rough.

Conditions were surprisingly iffy - starting with the best and working backwards (from green to tee):
- Greens were fairly nice - about 7.5. One or two areas were under repair and there were a fair amount of un-repaired ballmarks. Speed generally was very quick making some of the pin positions nearly impossible. Pins were tucked behind traps, on the edge of shelves or on slopes 2 paces from the edge of the green - kind of silly locations at times. This was complicated by 3 or 4 greens running appreciably slower.

- Fairways, spotty with only average lies at best - fair amount of repair and lots of dead areas/hard pan. Only one or two fairways appeared to have been re-seeded and were green and lush.

- Rough same as fairways

- Sand was generally fluffy, although I ended up in one which was very wet and compacted making it difficult to get under the ball.

- Tee boxes were very scruffy indeed. Lumpy throughout, fairly bare in spots and had been recently punched.

Pace of play pretty bad for an early morning start - 5.25 hours.

I'd rate it about 5.5 overall. Very challenging course, especially on/around the greens.
