We took advantage of HV $35 special, yesterday. We had not played here in quite some time, so we were not sure what we would find, based on other reviews. But we got great weather and a great course and finished in 5 hours. Not bad for a busy Saturday. Though the greens have been recently aerated, they are right now in very good shape. They hold well, putt well and a few were even faster than we expected. But we still have many many golfers who not only cannot fix a ball mark on a green, but walk past them without any thought of doing so. I suspect that is a problem we shall never see eliminated? The rest of the course is in good shape as well, with the ball rolling very nicely in the fairways. Sand traps seem a little hard, but still playable. The condition of the course seems to be much improved since the last time we played here. We look forward to going back in Sept after the warm weather of late July and August has passed us by. Not an area one wishes to play when it is warm in Norco. But if the special is still running, perhaps you should go play early in the AM, if possible. And if you play, watch for the coyote on 17.

I played this course along with a friend of mine on July 1st, 2011. This was a first for the both of us. We had heard all the hype, read all the reviews and I must say we were very happy and impressed with the couse. The staff was ok. The greens were a bit fast. The fairways, greens and tee boxes were highly maintained. The views from around the course were just spectacular even with the SoCal smog! The course played tough but fair from the blue tees. We got for $44 bucks thanks to Golfnow.com, however the rack fees would be worth playing this course. I play alot in Palms Springs and I would put this course up against the Palm Springs area course as far as price, playability and just a nice course to spend your money on without traveling to the desert. I will definetly play Hidden Valley numerous more times. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the clubhouse and the Swordfish lunch special. Has anyone out there tried it and if so how was it? I had to rush home and go with the wife to a wedding!!

Played Hidden Valley Golf Club today 6-14-2011. Teed it up a 7:00am and finished in under 4 hours. The course was so lush. Not a bad lie out there. I took some photos for everyone to check out. What an interesting golf course. The scenery was beautiful and the layout very interesting. I thought the course was a fair challenge. It’s tight off the tee but not overly constricting. I loved many of the elevated tees. The par 3’s will put hair on your chest as 3 of the 4 require forced carries over hazards…hole 5 is a beast! The par 5’s are where a big drive is rewarded with a good go at it for the green in two…many birdie and eagle chances await. The par 4’s require your most accurate tee shots and distance control on approach…lot of elevated greens or greens you are hitting down too.

As for as the conditions…excellent. The greens although slow for my tastes rolled smooth and held shots. The fairways lush and cut tight. The rough, cut 2 to 3 inches, lush yet not too thick. The sand traps firm and a bit thin but very well maintained. Just adjust to firmness and you’ll have an easy time getting out of them.

After the round I had lunch in the clubhouse restaurant and enjoyed the meal/service – dare to try to “horseshoe!”

BTW - I saw the cart girl many times on the course (impressive for a Wednesday)

My advice is to play the course before they aerate the greens on 7/5 & 7/6. I understand they will be offering a discount on the green fees during the week of aeration so that might be worth checking out. I highly recommend playing Hidden Valley - just make sure you choose the appropriate tee box for your skill level.

Hidden Valley is making the course more user freindly, #1 on the right side has been cleared out, #9 and 17 have both had the slopes cleaned off so your ball comes back into play after a errant tee shot and the bunkers are being worked constantly. Plus - who gives you a free raffle ticket to win a 1973 show room vet for just playing the course. Great value course with great veiws.

There is something missing at this course...I will start with customer service which is always excellent. But when you get to the course which don't get me wrong is a challenging and awesome track. The course doesn't play as it should. The first hole has always had bare spots, as well as some of the other holes. Not sure if it's a watering or seeding issue. Nevertheless I will continue to keep Hidden Valley in the mix.

I played Sunday, May 29 and teed off at about 11:45. I like the layout, with lots of twists and turns and elevation changes. The course conditions from tee to green were very good, with consistent grass coverage in the fairways and short to medium length rough. The greens rolled well at medium to medium-fast speed and few ball marks. Green-side bunkers were fine. Fairway bunkers were a little packed, but who cares? The driving range is fine for warming up (real grass), but anything longer than about 150 yards slams into the hillside. The service was excellent, and the little Euro-guy who works the counter is a treasure. If you like hillside courses and the price fits your budget, I highly recommend Hidden Valley.

Also noticed that they are clearing a lot of areas to make the course more "user friendly" Makes the course play much easier (and faster) While it didn't help me, I think this is a wise decision. Great value and the staff was great.

First time playing this course, 4/20, 10:08 tee time. Got around in just under 4 hours, saw the beverage cart 3 times. I have seen mostly good, some great, and a few not-so-good reviews of this place. I will lump my review in with the "great" ones. Loved it out there! Hidden Valley is a gem, albeit a pretty difficult test of golf. Not many level lies out there, but the course is manicured like you'd expect a country club to be. Most tee boxes were level, fairways were striped and mowed to the perfect height, rough was thick but playable, and the greens were superb. Held shots well, rolled fast, smooth and true. One thing from previous reviews that still holds true, though: The bunkers were pretty hard-packed. A few fluffy ones out there, but mostly solid and difficult to escape cleanly. The gentleman in the clubhouse was very friendly, gave us the lowdown on the course and included a very nice yardage book with our green fees. Superb customer service. Lots of OB and environmentally sensitive areas here, bring extra balls if you're wild off the tee! And do not take your cart off the paths or fairways, it will shut off and beep at you loudly. I had a great experience here, and will return soon.

If you look back to the very beginning of Greenskeeper.org....I wrote the very first review of Hidden Valley back in November, 2002. (It's on page 25 now) My reviews, like the course itself, have been hot and cold over the years. Always a great layout, and having just returned to the U.S. from my home in India...I was anxious to play the course that I understood is under new management. I played on Friday, April 10th...and - although it looked like rain nost of the day...it held off and stayed dry....but it was one of the coldest days I have ever spent on a golf course!! It sure wasn't India!! The range is one of the best in SoCal...it has changed much and for the better over the years I have been playing there. The course conditions were, frankly...outstanding!! The greens were consistent and very fast...most fairway lies were lush and the ball sat up well...everything on Hidden Valley was so green and beautiful...it was a pleasure to play. The only negative (and this was just weird!!) was that the sprinklers came on automatically on the 15th tee-box and - I caught a blast of icy water to the chest to compound a very chilly afternoon experience... I enjoy golfing at Hidden Valley...and - as long as they keep the conditions up...I will certainly come back to review the course again in 2012!
