Played the Blues (6741/72.7/132) with RGM2525 on an UP voucher, 18 + replay + drink/cart. We played 36 and averaged 3H, 20M per round. We let one single play through and played through several groups. The weather was sunny, clear with temps hovering around 100. The positives: They have resodded parts of several fairways and had maintenance people out watering poor spots. The negatives: Every part of the course is in below average condition. The tees were a mixed bag. Most were okay, but several were obviously not being watered/maintained. They have let the old black tees go and several of the current blues are about gone. It looks like they are going to shorten the course and make numerous holes a blue/white combo tee. The fairways? You had a much higher chance of playing off bare earth than the few areas that were lush. The vast majority could be politely described as thin. They posted a note that tells you to treat everything as GUR and improve your lie, whether or not marked. The rough around the greens was mostly lush. The rough around the fairways was almost non existent. If you missed the mostly thin fairways you were probably playing off hardpan. The sand traps were very inconsistent. Too much sand in several fairway bunkers I frequented, not enough in several of the green side traps I was in. The greens looked camouflaged because almost all had many brown hot spots they were watering. The held approach shots well but putted medium slow. The customer service was excellent, quick efficient check-in. I had Sliders in the restaurant between rounds, very good and reasonably priced for a golf course. The cart gal was out making the rounds numerous times. I really like this layout, it's too bad the conditions are still well below average. You can tell new ownership is trying by watering and resodding. However, it's also telling that there was no divot mix provided anywhere out on the course. Also, numerous traps did not have rakes, and I am talking green side traps, not fairway. No GPS on carts and the course is not well marked for yardages. I have played over 50 regulation courses so far this year, and the only one that would give Summerly consideration for escaping the bottom slot on playing conditions is Robinson Ranch Mountain. Recommended = No.

Played out here today with the LA Golf Group and since there were only 8 players in our group today we were all able to use the $30 GK Certificate. We had the 10:30 tee time, but actually went off a little early because it was not crowded out there on a gloomy day with a few light rain showers during our round. We didn't catch anyone until the 12th hole and it was a nice relaxed pace with nobody pushing from behind. The starter gave each cart a yardage book because there is no more GPS. This is really helpful because this course is so tricky. If you thought the sight lines were deceptive before, it's even more difficult and confusing now because of the spotty conditions. It's tough to review the conditions right now because it's a "work in progress" (putting it as kindly as I can). I am so glad to see the course reopen, but it has a long, long way to go. On the positive side, I will say the greens were rather good. Much softer and more receptive than expected and rolling smooth on putts at medium speeds. The grass areas directly around the greens were generally pretty good, as well. The tee boxes were also fine, though not all the regular tee boxes were open and things were moved around on many holes. On the negative side, the rest of the course is not looking so good. Some fairways are better than others, but even the best ones still have a lot of dead spots, weed patches and other inconsistencies. Looks like the most work right now is being focused on the 15th fairway, so it is currently playing as a par-3 instead of a par-4. As others have noted, as you get off the "fairways" then you never know what you will find. It's all pretty nasty with little grass to be found. Bunkers tended to be thin with plenty of rocks in them. Though the course still has a long way to go and it's still kind of looking like kind of a war zone from tee to green, you can see the effort they are putting in. My view of this course is similar to acesfull. I really like the layout and I am really rooting for them to bring it back to something decent again. The bones of a great course are still apparent, so hopefully things keep moving in the right direction. As it is now, I applaud that they are offering a lot of good deals like the GK Certs to balance out with a lesser quality course experience. Just temper your expectations before coming to Summerly, at least for awhile.

Played 4/24. First a little background... Forgive me if this is already in other reviews and for the length but I feel a need to expand. Summerly is one of my favorite layouts by far. Bringing others here who have never played it is hysterical watching a scratch golfer shoot a 95 and want to throw his/her clubs in the drink (or burm) is definitely a sight to see. Many people do not give this course a chance. It is true links golf in all its imperfect glory. That said, the course has gone through a number of ups and downs. It IS on the upswing now but does have a bit still to go. Course was wonderful when I first started playing, somewhere in 2011 and after it had gotten flooded out and was healing well. Conditions improved, worsened, and eventually were neatly unplayable even for the biggest Summerly fan (me). I swore off the course until I heard better. Then the course went under as the owner was allegedly involved in a Ponzi scheme. Now, with new owner putting a million dollars into bringing the course back to shape, I was super excited (TeaGal does not share the same excitement for Summerly as I do) to try it again. So here is the short of it... It is coming along well. You can see the attempt, and some success, for bringing the course back. I am pretty confident it will get there. You don't sink all the money into sod, sand, etc to just let it go. It does still have a way to go, but it's getting there. Also, prices are still fair, a big plus. Tees were decent. Grass, mostly level, bit of unevenness to the turf on them but easily playable. Greens were good. Medium speed and not many ball marks. Firm. Fairways were good in most areas, never really great, but way better than I had seen in a long time. Some holes pretty decent. A few no so much. 15 is being sodded so is temporarily a par 3. No biggie. What used to be almost complete hard pan/dirt is at least now mostly green. Still a hard surface under it though but not too big a deal for a sweeping swing like I have. Rough is kinda what it is, not much, desert, variable grasses. I would assume this is the last part to be addressed during the reconditioning. Sand traps still have a lot of rocks and need better sand. I've never seen water in the Burms but boy what a great feature that would be! Pro shop girl was nice, starter as well. Nice looking metal dividers between spaces on the range with cut out course name a nice touch toward a more upscale experience. A few easily fixable misses... Unfortunately I wrote them down as we were playing and lost the paper, but something to this effect... Make sure cart girl is fully stocked, make sure there is soap in the men's room, make sure there is water in the ball cleaners, have water at the range to clean clubs, and a couple more I forgot. To the staff.. I love your course and want you to succeed. Make sure all the little things like this are done well so the "experience" is great. As the course comes along, all the other things will be in place for an exceptional experience.
