Played Monday 6/21 just after 8:00 am. Service was excellent and we went out right on time (two threesomes). Course is in great shape with the exception of the bunkers. Seemed there was not a lot of sand and what was there was either wet or compacted. Found the greens to be unusually slow for this course. At the pro shop I was told they are letting the greens grow to prepare for the summer heat. So be aware, nothing breaks as much as you might think AND give that putt a bit more pace. This course requires strategy and due respect. Be careful of "sucker" tee boxes or your drive will be OB. While looking for your ball, watch out for snakes and enjoy the beautiful scenery at this resort like course.

Been waiting a long time to get out here. Have heard tremendous things about this course. Me and my buddies will drive 100 miles if greenskeeper.org is bragging about it or anyone who can break 80 is whistling dixie about it. I first will say, for the price its worth the trek from Los Angeles. The famous par 3 was amazing. Pictures don't do it any justice. The wind was moving a bit but not nothing ruining the experience. What did ruin the experience was our PW on the first hole was inside 20 feet for birdie and the greens were AS LONG AS FABIO'S HAIR IN '92! What the heck man? The course is sick. Beautiful. The views, the layouts and they haven't cut the greens in i don't know how long and they are softer than cotton balls. ANY BALL WOULD CHECK. A TITLEIST HVC WOULD. HONEST. Cut the greens, now and roll them and we will come back and bring many others. a beautiful track but we couldn't make any putts. I eagled 8, from the tips. driver (superdeep tp) 5 iron, and lob wedge from 5 yrds off green. No other birdies. you couldn't coz they weren't true and they rolled like you were putting on an english muffin. It was a shame. Anyone who shoots over 100 wont mind. Any player whos looking for a challenge will be very disappointed.

I found the course to be in very nice condition, in fact as good as I can recall - However I found the greens to be the slowest I can ever recall. In all fairness, I played first off and had none of them cut, so I'm certain they would have been quicker, But they were "fuzzy". Otherwise the course was excellent. Those of you who are old enough will remeber the phase "Nobody doesn't like Sara-Lee", well same applies with Oak Quarry - how can you not like this course!

Badputt and I played here on Sunday, 4/18/10 with my girlfriend and her husband. This was our first time playing here, we have talked about playing here for quite a while and we finally had a chance--it was truly worth it! We had an early tee time 7:20 and the morning was beautiful--no wind, just a little morning chill which turned into a gorgeous sunny morning. Beautiful and scenic for most of the course--the signature hole #14 was even more scenic than the pictures we had seen. Badputt was thrilled when he made par on this one--I did not do so good as my drive landed in the left side trap--just a bit more right and I would have been on the green! Oh, well--it was a fun day. Scratch this one off the golf bucket list but definitely one that I would love to come back to soon! This was a challenging course and a great start for our golf vacation!

Got out at 8:15, finished 12:45 on a Friday ... my first round of golf since Thanksgiving. One day prior to playing, I used the discount link on the Oak Quarry website and shaved $12 off the rack rate ... hey, it got me a 'free' lunch after the round (great grub in the clubhouse there). The course is scenic and in it's usual good condition other the hardpan bunkers ... basically, precision pitch shots on greenside bunkers and pick it clean in fairway traps. Greens were a bit slow for my liking ... could drop that mower down a couple of clicks. No wind so no complaints. My buddie and I were paired up with a couple of real nice guys from Malaysia which made the day interesting.

Played OQ today and can only describe it as TERRIBLE! The wind was unbearable. Stationary balls on the greens blew off on their own. The staff should close the course on such days-period. The greens were also sanded, but with that and the howling wind, no discount or refund was offered. I earned a dunce's cap for paying $100 to play today-glad it blew into the quarry lake!

GOLFERS BEWARE-DO NOT DRIVE OUT TO PLAY THIS COURSE BEFORE CHECKING FOR WIND CHANCES!

Played yesterday around noon. Pace of play was 5 hours. The wind was brutal. 30 to 50 mph. My hat blew off on hole #6 and fell into the ravine. No way I was going after it. The course was in fantastic condition. Greens were soft, but fast. The fairways and sand traps were in great condition. The wind made for a miserable day scoring though.
Cart girl came by 3 times and the snack shop was open after the front nine. Customer service was fantastic as always. A must play!

Got out to O.Q. for the first time in a while...

Since I've probably reviewed this course more than any other (except perhaps Goose Creek)....I'll limit this posting to the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly....

The Good...I can't agree more with the prior poster. We played the day before he did (Sat. 2/21) Our time was 7:36 but they got us out just before a big tournament was due to start. We played in just a hair UNDER four hours (yes...THAT is the proper time for a round of 18-holes!!) The course is in great shape....fairways lush, tee-boxes, too. We lucked out and didn't have the slow greens as we were told that they were rolled that morning. I actually think that the greens were as fast as I've ever seen them at OQ...but I know how fickle they can be. Truly a great course in top condition right now!!

The Bad... With a small warm-up bucket, we paid $100.00 per man. Now...since I had just played Paiute Wolf in Las Vegas (for $109.00) which is a much better course...It seemd to me that OQ was a little pricey. It's a nicetrack...but, hey, seriously - it ain't "Ben Franklin" nice. I'm afraid that in this economy, $100.00 is too much and unless they lower the rates, my weekend golfing at The Quarry are officially over...

The Ugly.... Through no fault of the greenskeeepers at OQ, (they must have gotten a ton of rain!) - some of the bunkers are in need of some new sand. There are lots of rocks showing and some of the sand traps have nothing but washed-out dirt at the upper lips...I know Hank and his staff will get right on it.

Staff great, food great, everything is great. Now just knock it down to $80.00 and you've got perfection!
