Played today 3/31/09. the course is nice, but not worth the price. Very poorly run. We were 27 mins behind after 9 holes. Called the pro shop and asked if a marshall could come out and speed up play ( it was playing like weekend play) 2 and three groups waiting at tee boxes. They said they would send one out. NEVER saw one. Absolutely bad for weekday play took almost 5 hours of waiting. Terrible experience for the rates they get. Will not go back

Played a noon hour two some for only $48 each via golfnow.com. What a deal. This course is stunning. The 14th hole is something else with a view of the sheer rock cliffs and the large quarry lakes in the crater to the left. Pace of play was fantastic (my quickest round ever), we finished in about 3 1/2 hours, thanks to a couple friendly foursomes who allowed us to play through. The course is difficult for a high handicapper like me, especially with a strong breeze blowing on most holes. Only small complaint is the quality of the bunkers. It looks like they wet them down a lot and this causes them to be generally very crusty. I would say 3/4 of the bunkers were like this. The greens were quite slow, but expected due to recent aeration, and really were in good shape considering the maintenance. Beverage cart girl showed up twice and was well stocked. I highly suggest this course.

Played for the first time on Saturday, Mar. 7th as a twosome with a 1:30pm tee time. I arrived around 11:30am, an attendant picked me up at the parking lot and took me and my clubs to the clubhouse. I was immediately assigned a cart where the attendant placed my clubs in and had the choice of hanging in their excellent restaurant or head to their warm up area.

The starter was doing a great job of making sure everyone went out at their tee time. Every single staff member I encountered was super friendly and served a purpose to make things efficient. Service was top notch and easily the best I've ever encountered.

Now to the course itself. All I can say is it was absolutely stunning. It was a gorgeous day, warm and clear. The views were jaw dropping. The course plays tough, hitting the fairway is a must - you'll find tons of trouble as most fairways have bunkers or some sort of OB. I was lucky to only lose 4 balls as my driving was off all day. The greens were partially aerated (one side of the greens were punched and the other half - where the flags were placed - were not). Even though the greens had been aerated on 3/2 you could barely tell. They were slower, but it was a good thing because some of the undulation was pretty gnarly. If you put a good stroke on it though, putts were to be made (I had 29 putts for 18 holes). The tee boxes were flawless and the fairways nicely cut without any bare spots. The rough wasn't too punishing but tricky at times. The sand was hard, with huge chunks of rocks all over. I suspect its tough to keep the rocks from collecting in there considering it's smack on an old stone quarry. The pace was great for sunny Saturday in SoCal, we finished in about 4 1/2 hours. We saw the marshal frequently, he was quite friendly. He must have been doing a good job as everyone was playing at a good pace. The only thing that kept this from being the perfect golf experience was the colossal d^^che -bag that we were paired with.

This course was phenomenal and an absolute pleasure to play - what's more we got a great deal from Golfnow.com for $55 to ride. I'm definitely coming back!

Played here Friday, March 6th. Weather was great, so is stuff. They meat me at the parking lot and drove me to the Pro shop. Course was in great shape. Even though half of the greens were aerated, we still had a lot of fun. I don't even mention views. Gorgeous!!!

I played 36 holes and it was great. From the time we arrived until driving off the lot, we received excellent service from the staff. We had a bit of early morning light showers, but after that it cleared up and got warm. The driving range had a number of tiered boxes, but the boxes we were using were (grass) beat up pretty badly and I was worried that the course might be in the same condition. But this was not the case. The course was in excellent condition, the fairways were lush and full, the greens were somewhat soft but still true and fast. I went out of my way to faind pitch marks and found very few all day. Great job by the crew of greenskeepers. Overall I loved this course, you could tell they were not getting the play they normally do, when we finished our first round, we paid for number two and were right back on our way. We did catch another foursome on #2 and it slowed a bit. But we still finished the second nine right at 4 hours. I don't know that anything could have been done if we had ground to a halt, I did not see a marshall the whole day. The beverage cart began at around 10am and she informed us on around noon that she would not be back around. Well she did end up coming back by and told us that they had 14 walkons and they told her to continue on. Overall a great day of golf. outstanding service, very classy facilities (Restroom, dining area, pro shop), and a excellent track that was very well maintained. Oh although I only found the sand twice all day, it was somewhat thin but not hard.

medium-size greens not overly firm or fast, but enjoyable. The swirling wind increased during the last 8 holes, and made shot selection and execution challenging.

'The Rock" is a beautiful course and their customer service is top notch. The topography of this layout is like no other I know of. We had a little rain off & on Saturday but still had an enjoyable round. The gps in the golf carts is great with a "bottom line" sports update. The course is difficult. Keep it in the fairway. The greens are mottled or spotted with brighter green grass but rolled perfect. Don't read more break than there is. A surprising amount of putts were straight. The bunkers were near perfect, just the right amount of fluff to the sand. I'm anxious to return.
