Played New Years Day with Gker PFuzzard and his colleage/friend sheriff Jack that I think was a very low index player who averaged 305 off the tee no kidding. It was a pleasure playing with them. We teed off at 9:08 tee time, with perfect conditions weather wise. The course is in very good condition. I have not seen the greens here in better shape. They rolled true and pretty fast. They are tough greens to read. The tee boxes had many divots, but in good condition overall. Pace was good, we were behind a slow foursome until the 8th hole when they let us play through. They were on the 7th green when Jack hit a huge drive about 70 yards from the green. This is an uphill all the way hole, my jaw dropped as I am sure the guys ahead thought what the..
They were at their tee shots on the next hole, when they waved us through. This was great we all hit fantastic drives, they just looked up as our tee shots went flying over them. We never saw them the rest of the day. We did catch another threesome on hole eleven and had a leisurely round the rest of the day.
The only down side of Oak Quarry was the sand or lack of sand in every bunker, It was barely 1/2" deep and was hard to even tell where the ball left the spot when hit way further than expected.
Nice layout, great views, and friendly employees makes for a good golf experience.

VERY NICE, This course is expensive for the area but worth it once in a while , tee through greens are great the views are even better. No two holes look the same and every hole has a challenge. The club is very nice and the staff are great . Watch the weather and come on out play from the right tees and your gonna have a new favorite course

Forget all about my last review. All is well at Oak Quarry!

Played in a foursome yesterday (12/27)...got out right on schedule. There were a ton of golfers standing about...must have been the holiday weekend. But the pro-shop staff and the starter were really on top of *their* games....and we got off right on schedule with no delay. The starter gave us an 8-minute call - and 8-minutes later, we were on the tee. The pace of play was far from "blistering" - but - we could see no major gaps between groups of golfers, so - there is no reason to complain. Sometimes a five-hour round on Saturday has to be expected. We cant' be accused of exactly 'lighting it up', either....had a couple lost balls and were playing a team match...so - "stuff happens".

The couse itself is in stellar shape, tee to green. A few of the tee-boxes were a little chewed-up from golf-shoe spike wear....and that seems to be due to the recent rains, mostly. The crack Oak Quarry staff will get right on those. The fairways are lush...and - even where they are not perfectly green, there appear to be no thin areas....at least none that I was actually in! The course is getting a lot of play....and customers are not filling their divots! That's not the fault of the course or management, that's just poor golf etiquette on the part of a few golfers.

The bunkers were showing signs of being pounded by recent rains. The "sand" needs a little work. Perhaps it just needs to be turned-over and "fluffed up"....but it seems as if the sand itself had washed away...and the remaining hard-packed gravel-y substance that is left behind made for some interesting sand-outs.

The greens were truly spectacular. FAST! Mowed tight. Very smooth....hardly a bumpy line on any of them. It's hard for me to remember a time when the greens here were any better. Had to fix a number of other folks' ball marks, though - but that's not the fault of The Quarry....again, that's just rude golfers for ya.

G.M. Hank greeted us at lunch to see how we enjoyed things. The food in the clubhouse is much better than average, and the beer is cold.

From the fellow who greets you at your car and grabs your clubs out of the trunk for you...to the pro-shop staff, the starter, the marshalls, the cart girl (we saw her 4-times....I don't think she had a very busy day...it was quite cold until 11:00 A.M.!), to hank himself, Page, our waitress in the bar, to the guys who washed the mud off our clubs and carted us out to the parking lot...everybody at Oak Quarry is first-rate all the way!!

If Oak Quarry is not on your list of regular courses...it should be.

Played Oak Quarry yesterday (Saturday)...had the 7:24 A.M. slot. We knew it was going to be windy....we almost dedided to not go out....but - we had driven all that way. It really was too windy to play...but it made for a memorable round. There were some 60+ m.p.h. gusts. One particular gust on the tee of #12....blew so hard that for a few seconds, I was actually scared the cart was going to blow over.

It was "cart path only" - but we knew that because we read Greenskeeper.org! We were also warned by plenty of signage and a flyer in every cart. There was a discounted greens-fee and they didn't charge for range balls. Very nice.

The overseeding has "taken" well...plenty of new growth. It really DID need to be CPO, the fairway winter rye was all pretty fresh...but VERY playable. Thick grass, lush, ball sits up well. Standing up to hit the ball without getting blown over...that's another story!!

Hard to judge the greens, although they sure looked as good as they've ever looked. Maybe a little residual bumpiness from the last punching, but they held all shots pretty well...and seemed to roll true. It is hard to judge the speed on a day that's so windy. Wind had an effect on almost every putt. It was brutal!

The course is going to be in its normal magnificent shape in a couple of weeks. From Thanksgiving on, it will be near-perfect. Hopefully the weather will be, too! You can't go wrong by picking The Quarry for your next round!

Now...a few words to the "Complaint Department" at OQ....

Goodness knws, I have the greatest respect for GM Hank and all the staff. They are some of the best in all the land! Having said that:

WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU LETTING "FIVESOMES" OFF ON SATURDAYS? WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU LETTING THEM OUT AT *ANY* TIME, FOR THAT MATTER????

We followed a fivesome and waited at every hole. Often, we waited on this fivesome on every shot. On the tee-box for #5, we coule see that this fivesome had fallen more than an entire hole behind, at least. Did I mention that they were a fivesome? Do you get the feeling that very few things annoy me any more than fivesomes?? One would hope that a fivesome would THINK to look at the behind them and wave them through...but NO! I reckon fivesomes don't "THINK" at all, do they??...or they wouldn't go out as a fivesome in the first place, WOULD THEY????

By the 11th hole, we could see that they had probably fallen 3-4 holes benind. We called the pro-shop....and we told them that "it was brutal enough out here in the wind" without having to follow a fivesome....please send a ranger.

The ranger never showed up.

On the tee for #15, we had had just about enough. We used the GPS feature on the cart to summon a ranger. The ranger showed up as we were getting to the green. He admitted that the group was sent out as a fivesome...and that the group in front of them had already FINISHED! We asked him to please tell the fivesome to pick up the pace so we could finish by Thanksgiving. With three holes to play, we rejected the idea of playing-through. All we ask is that they speed it up.

O.K. Enough about the fivesomes.

In the bar...we had our normal beers and salads.

And then we got the bill. A 20% SERVICE CHARGE??? What is up with that???

As much as I love Hank, and love The Quarry....these things will stick in my mind next time I decide to spend my hard-earned money on a round of golf. If these are "management decisions" - - I think they need to have a meeting....soon.

The greens are not as good as I remembered them to be, but the course seemed to be in good condition overall. The course was not as wet as I remember it to be either, there were some brown spots, but it played hard and fast. Except for greens... Those were soft and medium speed. Number 14 is a neat hole.

Great shape. Saw a few Goose Creek Saturday regulars out at The Quarry. This is due to the Goose getting its yearly facelift. Oak Quarry always satisfies the urge for variety. Fairways have been prettier in the past, but never so lush. Very few thin spots. Greens rolled pretty well...not very fast...a bit bumpy...but very playable. I wish the GK coupon had not expired at the end of September...could have saved my group $80.00. That's almost two tanks of gas. $95.00 might be a wee bit steep now...Saturday or not. The economy is hitting everybody. We need to see more "frequent player" deals, Hank!!!

I thought the course was in great shape. there was some bumpie areas on the greens, but other than that it was really. Played with a former mlb pitcher and he played from the blacks drove it 300+ and hit the center of the fairways. kept up with him on the frount 9 from the whites with a 39, then the second round in two days in 100+ degree heat got me. 48 on the back just killed the day. Marshalls were around at least 4 times and kept things going. The group in front of us was terriable and played from the blues. still played in 4 and a quater hours so i really couldnt complain.
