Played early Saturday 9/14 with Sixpez, itslikeimsayin and eaglee (great group of guys!). Keith and Mark summed it up well. Soggy early on, it was 103° when we left so that explains the need for extra water. Bunkers could have used a little more sand. Greens were good and it seemed if the ball hopped around at all it was due to sand from the bunkers. Tee boxes were really shaggy. Layout is solid. Overall still one of my favorite courses and with Keith's contest win playing for $15 was a dream deal.

Had a good time this morning at Redhawk with Itslikeimsayin, mnehls86 and Eaglee. I got an email a couple weeks ago letting me know I had won one of the course's monthly email list drawings. It was a "free" anytime foursome, with the only costs being $15 a player for carts. Can't beat that deal for a primetime Saturday morning time. We teed off right about on time (7:48) and finished in just under 4.5 hours or so.

The course was in very good overall condition as Mark noted. Definitely pretty wet and soggy early on. Late summer bermuda, so mostly nice fluffy lies in fairways. Rough a bit patchy in areas. Some spots very lush and thick, others rather spotty. Greens really good. Didn't seem quite as wicked fast as usual Redhawk greens, but rolling smooth and quick enough, while still soft and receptive on approaches. I wasn't in a bunker, so no comments there.

Redhawk is always a favorite. Fun and challenging track with a good diversity of holes. In my opinion, it features probably the best complete set of par-3s in SoCal, with four very distinctive holes and a spectacular view from the 17th tee. Hoping I win another drawing in the future, because that deal is hard to beat for this course!

Played with sixpez, mnehls86 and eaglee this morning for $15 because Keith won some sort of contest as a subscriber to their email list. Course was in very nice shape. Greens were pretty quick and smooth, fairways were nice, rough was sort of spotty but generally fine. Bunkers were inconsistent – some good and some packed and wet. The whole course was very wet early this morning, presumably in anticipation for a day that was supposed to approach 100 degrees.

The green on No. 7 had a ton of ball marks, but all 17 others were in good shape. Some of the tee boxes were too fluffy for my taste, but I never had a problem teeing up my ball. All in all very playable conditions and a price that can only be beat by playing for free.

Played here for the 1st time since the Spring and the course is in great condition, fairways are in excellent shape, greens are smooth and medium/fast. Traps looked a little thin/firm (did not visit any traps so I can't say for sure). Great customer service. Cart girl came by 4 times. Only complaint was the first 4 holes played very slow but not a problem after #4. I think they will be punching the greens next week so check before you go.

I joined fellow GKers David, Matt and Derek for 36 holes at Redhawk on Memorial Day. I have always loved Redhawk as I think it provides an awesome variety of holes and a solid but fair challenge. I won't go into the design of the course as much since I think you can read that from past reviews. I'll focus on the current condition of the course so those thinking about playing can decide if it's worth it.

First impressions, the course is in really good shape. The fairways still show a little residual damage from punching but it's minimal and it never seemed to affect any of my shots. I never once had a bad lie in the fairway. I thought the greens were in decent shape, although by the end of the day the ball was moving and bouncing quite a bit, but that can be expected. I know Matt got screwed a couple time during the second round by his ball taking jumps off the putting surface. The rest of the course was good as well, nothing spectacular where I thought "Wow, these conditions are epic!" but much better than most other courses I've played recently.

Redhawk always does a really good job and I am always quick to recommend it to people. This time out definitely didn't disappoint and I will be back soon. Great course, good shape, great value!

Played on Memorial Day with fellow GKers dconnally, AndrewZ28, and dhood84. We had a great deal courtesy of dconnally: $40 with cart and free replay (which we definitely took advantage of) which is a ridiculous deal for this place. We played the black tees with the first round taking a hair over 4 hours and the second taking a little under 4 and a half.

Note the any first timers at this course: the greens here are ridiculous. I can't think of another course with tiers quite like this one. (Number 4 has FOUR TIERS!) Despite the sloping insanity, the greens were in good shape other than the annoying amount of unfixed ballmarks. We actually had MORE ballmarks in our second round which says something about their regular guests. Putts did roll true if you happened to miss them though.

Fairways appeared to have been aerated in the past three weeks and are still showing visual signs, but they didn't affect playability. The course was playing very hard and fast with the fairways giving plenty of rollout. Lies were not lush, but the playability was fine. There were only a couple of burned out spots and one solid ground squirrel mound in the middle of #14.

Rough was variable. I found a number of very lush patches where the ball sat down (Behind #11 green comes to mind) but a number of places that were more on the thin side and much easier to hit out of.

No real comment on the bunkers. Most appeared okay but they do need some more rakes.

Tee boxes were solid. A couple were thin and the par 3s had a little bit of divot damage, but not too bad.

For the price we payed, the entire day was well worth it. It's a very exacting layout and penalizes wayward shots severely. We also had a number of adventures in putting, which should always be expected here. I'll be sure to be back in the future, but it is a bit of a hike to get here from North OC. Much like many courses, it needs to be about 30 minutes closer!

Played 5/7 - round was fine, though somewhat disappointing. i made the tee time about 6 days in advance and there was no mention of course maintenance from the staff. our foursome arrived and they informed us that we'd be playing twice on the front nine, no big deal. however, it slowed everything down & there were a handful of times that groups had to have a lengthy discussion about who should tee off first because "we've already played 9 and need to finish" vs."we're just starting." the most disappointing thing though was that all of the greens were punched and sanded. notice, not even greenskeeper has this noted for the course but the greens and fairways have been punched & the plugs are littered all over the place, including massive amounts in the rough within 10' of the greens. the staff mentioned nothing about it to us when we checked in & we were quite surprised when we made it to the 1st green. some areas of the greens were really heavily sanded, not really worth trying more than 2 putts. the course is fun and a challenge as always, but this round was not at all what we signed up for & we would have really appreciated advance notice. our foursome was meeting here & each person had to drive 30+ minutes, overall unsatisfied this time.
