2/6 birthday round $16 cart fee given a very cheerful and warm welcome on a cool frost delayed start but were 2nd off and only 20 min after our tee time for a # 1/2 POP with no waiting except for our own hunt for the stray shot. Fairways are winter dormant with some greens patches possibly volunteer/residual growth from over seeding years past. Generally ok to good lies with some that were fairly tight but very playable. Rough was mostly short some rather dry and whispy but also some that was juicy around the greens or rather thick on some slopes wide of some fairways. Tees were ok some thin on the par 3s but all quite playable.
Bunkers mostly had good sand especially if you stayed on the up slope.
Greens here are large with tiers and contour so a miss by 3 feet would often result in 30 to 40 feet of remaining putt. they use 6 zones for pins which also adds to the intrigue. There was also a topography influence that kept me confused most of the day. Many uphill approach shots and it seemed that the flatter approaches were guarded by bunkers or water. Would be helpful to have nice high trajectory which is sadly not in my game. Greens rolled consistently at medium fast and were smooth for the most part. Varied layout to keep it interesting. New comfortable carts no GPS. Large practice green DR with cushy mats.
Would definitely play here more if it were a little closer than the 1 hr 10 to get here but stil very worth the occasional trek. Talked with Mike the greens superintendent who was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his care for this course.
