Played as first two sum behind men's club Tuesday and agree with others the last two groups of men's club, a four sum and the last a 5 sum (4 carts) did nothing to speed up play and were rather generous with parking carts a foot off greens. Front nine fairways, for most part have fair grass coverage, back nine is another story as they are in the mist of no water due to delays with new pump on 18th fairway. Tee box's on some holes were almost impossible to find a level spot (note we played from forward tees using the best drive to speed up play) Greens for the most part are filled in pretty good, they were very long still coming out of punch. Fairway bunkers are all mainly hard pan, bunker around greens do have some "dirt" to play out of. Best I can say it the course is better than it was 3 months ago as more of the summer grass has spread out in places. Safe bet if City did not own and have this course zoned the way it is, it would not be here.

Have not played Shandin Hills in almost four years. Wow - has the condition of the course deteriorated since then. After reading the most recent reviews, I did not have high expectations, but even given that, it was disappointing to see how far this course has fallen. The fairways were not too bad, except for the areas which had drainage issues, and bare spots. The bunkers were not good looking, but actually were not too bad to play from. However, the tee boxes were not even close to being level with a lot of divot damage. The greens were slow and really bumpy. The ball just kind of "wandered" to the hole, not true at all.

What bothered me most of all was that we caught the men's club shotgun on the backside, which I had been advised about. No problem, but I watched as EVERY player riding in their single rider cart took the cart right up to the edge of the green on every hole. They would then drive off using the area between the green and the bunkers, which meant they were probably driving on collars of greens in many cases. This just demonstrates a total lack of respect for the golf course and every other person playing. Rude, lazy and selfish.

Jeff in the pro shop was a joy to deal with. I doubt he is aware of how abusive the men's club players are to the course. I cannot in good conscious recommend this course in the condition I experienced it today. Sorry, because I have always enjoyed Shandin Hills.

I haven't played Shandin Hills for quite a while because of all the bad reviews, but I used to play it often several years ago. In light of the last review that was left, I felt compelled to just comment on Shandin Hills.

All public golfers in SoCal are well aware that there will never, ever, ever be a new public course built in the LA, OC, or the IE areas. We have however, off the top of my head, lost 8 or nine great public courses over the years that were replaced by housing developments.

It really is a terrible thing that public golf is becoming so overlooked here. When a city owned course like Shandin Hills is so neglected that it is almost unplayable, it is such a waste of golfing property that we still thankfully have in our area. I'm not sure how this can happen, unless another development is on the way and this course will soon close as well. It seems that none of them are safe.

I know this is more of a topic for the forum, but I just thought more greenskeeper members might see this here. Maybe, if enough folks ask to see the manager of the course, or contact the city to complain, we can save this place that use to be a really nice, fun course to play.
I'm not a business guy by any means, I'm just a golfer that feels like public golf in California is drying up, just like the fairways and greens at Shandin Hills. Just my opinion.

Played Shandin last Saturday. Me and a buddy decided on last minute golf and usually when its hard to get on somewhere before noon then we'll go to Shandin Hills. It's a decent track and all we need are good greens , tee boxes & Fairways . its always been favorable golf, scoring about a 6-7 on a scale of 1-10 which scratches my golf itch without question. So here it is... 10AM start time, $64 per golfer... Not bad? Well i'm here to tell you, I'll never play there again. I grew up on Los Serranos golf Course and in my 52 years playing there, i never experienced a bad green. I've played Shandin for about 20 years and all i can say is if i were the owner, I would fire the Superintendent and then fire the clown in the Pro-Shop for telling me its getting better when i asked if they had aerified the greens lately and are they healed up yet? Truthfully, from Tee to Green for 18 Holes this place is an awful mess. Don't play here. it's a waste of time and money. Go get a Real Greenskeeper and we might come back. SAD,SAD, SAD!!!!!

around the weed infested greens. There may have been one or
two decent greens. This course has fallen off our consideration
for play list.

Played here weekday first time since the ownership change. The folks at nearby Arrowhead just took over this track. Course is same as I remembered, decent greens, spotty dry fairways and chewed up tee boxes. Bunkers are groomed dirt but surprisingly playable. Pace of play is usually good here. Once taking over management immediately raised the price by five bucks, I get it inflation. Most curiously, they got rid of a longtime Shandin institution, the “free” sandwich or breakfast burrito and drink at the turn. So more for less it seems. Not the greatest track compared to its neighbors, but used to be a great value proposition. Play Yucaipa or Sierra Lakes instead.

Waited 20 minutes to tee off because they ran out of carts. Way too short staffed.
Staff was doing the best they could.

Only thing good were the greens. Rest of the course was in bad shape.

Since we waited 20 minutes nobody in front of us for one and a half holes. Then on every hole on the front nine there were at least two groups waiting on each tee. On the par 3s there were three groups.

Need to talk to my co-worker about his recommendation.

Do not go there unless it is a weekday but be prepared for bad course conditions.

Nice to return to Shandin Hills. Because I enjoy bunker play, I always look forward to this course. I did find several bunkers, and generally they were decent. A bit thin at times, but still playable. Greens were just OK, a little slow, but not bad. Didn't hit enough quality shots to determine if they were receptive. Fairways were a mixed bag, some good, some very thin/bare.

The staff here is always super friendly and accommodating. Just a nice relaxed atmosphere. I've seen the course in better condition, but for the price, worth the drive. Plus I just like the layout.
