Got out yesterday morning for a warm and windy, but playable round at Sierra Lakes. I was a guest at a tournament with a bunch of retired guys who were all great.

The course is in excellent shape after the recent punching of the greens. Everything has healed up and is ready for play. The greens were sneaky fast and rolled very true. My group played the white tees which was nice, except a lot of the tee boxes were all grouped together actually playing forward. Not sure why, maybe because of the high winds to keep a better pace. Tee boxes were in great shape. The fairways were also in really nice shape and tee shots hit low would run out a fair distance. There were some really tight lies around the green that made you think about using that putter from distance. The rough was cut low which made it much easier to play in the wind. There were a few bare spots in the rough, but all in all in good shape as well. I was only in one fairway bunker which was in good condition. I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the greenside bunkers, but they looked very playable to me. We did not see a beverage cart all day, but the service at SL is always good. The only minor complaint is that the kitchen was closed at 3pm and there were only junk food snacks available by the time we finished our round. All in all, it was a great day at windy Sierra Lakes. Looking forward to getting out there again soon.

I haven't seen a review for MC for awhile, so here it is.
Played on Friday afternoon with great weather for a round. I played as a single with two younger great guys. The deer were out and unfortunately so were a couple of drunken fools in front of us. After a 3 hour front nine, I started wondering why on earth would the cart girl keep feeding these idiots more shots. Anyway, the fairways were decent, the rough was uncut and kind of inconsistent. The greens were the best part of the course, however, they are punching today. The sand and tee boxes really need some work, accept for #18 where the bunkers looked great. Not sure why. Overall, it was a frustrating round, not because of the course, but because of the idiots in front of us who were constantly being obnoxious and confrontational when we asked them to keep up. So, after a 6 hour round, I watched all of those drunk guys get in their cars and drive off the property. The staff here always great, but the cart girl needs to recognize when to cut people off. They ruined what was supposed to be a nice round of golf. The highlight of my day was when one guy actually yelled at us, "I'm a millionaire and I can do what I want", to which we replied, "that's great, you can afford to get some golf lessons". lol Sorry for the rant!

Played Jurupa Hills with a buddy yesterday from the white tees. I haven't been here in a few months. The conditions here are not that bad but have deteriorated since the last time I played here.
The tee boxes need work as many were uneven and full of divots. The fairways have decent coverage but there are more than a few areas with hard pan and dirt. The rough was not bad at all and very playable. We were able to find our ball easily in most cases. I was in a few sand traps. Two were ok and the one was really compacted. The greens were in good condition but a little slower than usual. There were also a lot of unfixed divots like most course these days. I still don't understand how golfers think this is acceptable. FIX YOUR DIVOTS YOU LAZY &*%$#%@ ! You know who you are. There are two things that I hate on the golf course, unfixed divots on the greens, and spitted sunflower seeds on the greens. What kind of a moron thinks that is a good idea. So inconsiderate!! Anyway, the best part of the round was a 3 hour POP at 1:30pm. GL Out.

Since Mountain Meadows hasn't been reviewed for awhile, I thought I'd give it a quick shout out after playing here yesterday.

The tee boxes are generally good on most of the holes. The fairways have great coverage and are mostly green. The rough is cut and not difficult. They have finally removed most of the ground under repair ropes on hole #1 which makes it more accessible. The course has worked hard to get that fairway back in shape, so if you are riding in a cart, try to avoid any wet areas and help to keep it nice and show some respect. The greens were punched a few weeks ago and are still a bit bumpy and slower than usual. I'm sure in another week or two they will be looking as good as new and much faster. The sand traps are inconsistent and could really use some more sand. They are a bit wet and it's difficult to make good contact. Anyway, that wraps my quick update. Thanks MM for keeping this place looking good.

I haven't played Shandin Hills for quite a while because of all the bad reviews, but I used to play it often several years ago. In light of the last review that was left, I felt compelled to just comment on Shandin Hills.

All public golfers in SoCal are well aware that there will never, ever, ever be a new public course built in the LA, OC, or the IE areas. We have however, off the top of my head, lost 8 or nine great public courses over the years that were replaced by housing developments.

It really is a terrible thing that public golf is becoming so overlooked here. When a city owned course like Shandin Hills is so neglected that it is almost unplayable, it is such a waste of golfing property that we still thankfully have in our area. I'm not sure how this can happen, unless another development is on the way and this course will soon close as well. It seems that none of them are safe.

I know this is more of a topic for the forum, but I just thought more greenskeeper members might see this here. Maybe, if enough folks ask to see the manager of the course, or contact the city to complain, we can save this place that use to be a really nice, fun course to play.
I'm not a business guy by any means, I'm just a golfer that feels like public golf in California is drying up, just like the fairways and greens at Shandin Hills. Just my opinion.

I played in a SCGA Member Outing at Hacienda CC yesterday. I've played here four times now and what can I say, this is my favorite CC that I've had the pleasure of playing. It's always in gorgeous condition in all aspects of the game. The greens are undulated, lighting fast and really tough to figure out. This course is a true test for the average player. If you are lucky to have the chance to play here, DO IT, you won't be disappointed.

I haven't been to Yucaipa Valley for many years and I really did not remember any of the holes or the layout. Now that this course is back in shape, I will for sure be back soon. I enjoyed the layout of this course. Lots of wide open fairways well guarded with bunkers and huge greens that are a challenge, but fair. It looks like they just over seeded the course recently. It was nice and green everywhere for the most part. Some of the tee boxes could use a leveling but most were acceptable. The greens were rolling medium fast in the morning and got faster after the sun dried them out a bit. They also rolled true and held shots well. The bunkers are the worse part of this course. They really need more sand and some work to remove all the pebbles. They are hard as nails. Staff was great, the cart girl came around a few times, and the POP was right at 4.5 hours for a Saturday morning. I'm sure we just go lucky with that. Anyway, had a great time at YV. Go check it out.

Since it's been several months since Upland Hills has gotten a review, I decided to leave one.
This is my local course, so I like to come here to practice my putting. I've noticed some good changes at Upland Hills. They have employed a starter that is keeping the 1rst tee in order, the cart girl seems to show up more than in the past during play, and the conditions seem to be consistent now. A few months back the rough was terrible, now it's being cut regularly. The greens here are always in pretty good condition. (Fix your ball marks and divots and they'll stay like that.) The fairways are mostly green with good coverage. The tee boxes have never been great here, and that's still the case. They put in a few new ones to lengthen the course, but they let them go downhill a bit. The pace here is always decent and the staff is friendly enough to make your day at Upland enjoyable. Hopefully, the improvements keep coming because it's a fun, narrow track that most folks would find challenging. Here's a tip for you on this course. You don't need to hit driver very often to score well here. Keep it in the fairway and "go low".

I finally got out with a buddy to play Industry Hills (Ike). I've only played the Babe course here once and found it to be an odd layout. I have to say, the Ike course is a whole different animal. We played the combo tees at 6500+ yards and it was a perfect challenge. This course was in better shape that most of the local courses for sure. I heard it can play slow, but I didn't experience that because we went out late afternoon after a shotgun just ended. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The tee boxes were mostly flat and in good condition. The fairways looked beautiful from the tees but were still greening up from their slightly dormant state. Another few weeks of warmer weather and they will be great. The greens were punched a few weeks ago so they were still a bit bumpy at times. They rolled medium fast and held the lines decently. Again, in a few weeks they will speed up and be beautiful I'm sure. I was in a few traps that were mostly thin with not much sand, which seems to be the norm on every course these days. Anyway, I totally enjoyed the layout. It was fun, interesting and fair with big undulations on the greens which made them tricky. I will be returning here again, although, I'm expecting a much longer round next time. If people would fix their divots on the greens and take care of this gem, it should continue to get better as the warm weather approaches. Hopefully, watering will not be an issue this season. I look forward to returning here soon.

Thought I'd leave a review of Jurupa Hills since there hasn't been one in awhile.
Played Sunday morning at 10am. POP was just shy of 5 hours, which was primarily due to the guys in front of us spending more time drinking and hitting on the cart girl rather than playing golf. Pretty typical for a weekend round though.

With that said, the course is in pretty darn good shape for all the weather we've had over the last few weeks.

The grass on all the tees was very long, probably because they were unable to mow due the rain on Saturday. The fairways were also a little grown out but in decent shape. I recommend playing lift, clean and place like we did. They were rolling out a bit and the coverage was better than I had expected. The management did a good job of roping off a few areas where carts could not go to keep any damage from happening during the soft conditions.

I was in a few bunkers that were pretty washed out and compacted, but actually raked which was nice. I'm sure they'll add some sand once spring comes around.
The greens are in excellent condition with minimal divots. They did roll a bit slow and bumpy, from the rain on Saturday, but they look awesome. Once they are cut and rolled, they will be excellent for sure.

The staff at Jurupa is always great. The VERY friendly cart girl was around frequently and the guy in the pro shop is always helpful. All in all it was a great day at Jurupa Hills on day one of daylight savings time. More time to golf is always a good thing!

Been playing Upland for years and it's usually ok. I played this morning with two others and between us we lost at least 10 balls due to the ridiculously long rough. Ten inches or longer in some areas even just just off the fairway. If you play here and you can't stripe it down the middle, you better bring the cheap balls. What should be an easy 4 hours turned into 4 hrs 45 minutes because every group ahead of you spends so much time searching through the mess. Also noticed that the greens have so many unfixed divots. I believe this is due to players not caring about the greens because they are already so aggravated by the time they reach the green. If you can find your ball, the rough is unplayable. Come on Upland Hills, mow the rough or charge less. I won't be back until then.

I got out to Upland Hills during the hot afternoon on Friday. I played as a single until hole 14 when I joined a friendly twosome for the remainder of the round. POP was just under 4 hours probably due to the heat.

The course is in decent shape with a few issues that management can easily fix. The fairways were mostly green and were good. The rough, even two feet off the fairway was ridiculously long for some reason. I lost two balls that were just off the fairway on two holes. Also, there were a lot of heavy grass clippings in the rough that also made a good hiding spot for your ball. Just mow it and it would be much more enjoyable and would also improve the POP. The mower guys must hate running over all those lost balls.

The greens are pretty good right now aside from a lot of unfixed divots. "Come on you lazy people, you know who you are." Fix your divots !!!! The greens would be great if you did.

I managed to avoid the bunkers all day, but they looked very playable to me.
The staff was great and I did encounter the cart girl once or twice during the round.

All in all, a good day at Upland Hills. CUT THE ROUGH GUYS!
