The photos and ratings don’t lie; Western Hills CC was in outstanding shape Monday 11-10-2025. This was my fifth event here…and like a broken record…again it just keeps getting better and better.

From a golf event organizer perspective, Western Hills CC is ideal. Great conditions, challenging engaging layout, (driving range, practice putting, practice sand/chipping, restaurant, clubhouse, golf cart staging area) ALL located near each other making it super easy to keep track of your players. Their Staff does super job from the moment you book until your event is completed. I’ve already lined up two events for 2026.

Played in my first GK outing 7-10-25 here at Western Hills Country Club. Course was in great shape from tee to green. Greens were a little fuzzy/bumpy but a well struck putt would drop. Tough course to score well on and hole number 1 is definitely not a hole that other courses should mimic especially with that diabolical pin placement , but I digress. Friendly staff and well run outing for sure. The Arabian Prince from NWA was in our group today. d%mn , that guy is a stick and was really fun to share a round of golf with.

Played today in the Golf Moose/Vivid/GK outing at Western Hills Country Club. Nice facility in the Chino Hills area of Carbon Canyon. Had a breakfast burrito in the bar before the round and it was very good. Friendly staff and well run event. The pace of play was okay at 4:45 considering how long shot gun starts usually take. My group played the white tees, listed at 6400 yards and a 128 slope.

The course has quite a few elevation changes. Interesting layout and tricky figuring out the right club on a first visit. The 13th hole is being redone and was closed. They converted the par 5 15th into a short (255 years today) par four 15A and a long par three (200 yards) 15B. Interesting that what I can only assume is a temporary par 4 green for 15A was a nice green that rolled identical to the other greens on the course. Very nice!

The course was in great condition. Beautiful fairways, lush rough and nice tees. Really lush conditions throughout. The greens looked like they were recovering from aeration sometime in the past but they rolled well at a fast speed. There were some wobbles but overall the ball, for good or ill, went where you sent it. It would take a couple of rounds to figure out the greens; there were some difficult reads. Both 1 and 10 had front pin positions which were border line unfair but otherwise they were tough but fair.

I liked the course a lot. It exceeded my expectations in terms of concourse conditions and there were no issues with regard to services or facilities. It is definitely a course I would like to play again.

What a super day and outing at Western Hills CC Monday. Great to see GKers out there. This was my 5th event at Western Hills CC and my favorite so far. The course was in excellent shape with summer lush turf (only blemishes I found were some the greens had thin/bare spots near the surrounds). The greens were mostly smooth, med-fast and held shots. Bunkers played well with many, mostly greenside, with new sand since our last outing in December. Tee boxes were all lush in great shape. The renovated Hole 8 and Hole 10 Tee Boxes have filled in nicely. Pace of Play was just under 5 hours.

For an outing organizer perspective, it’s great they have the restaurant open for our players prior and after play. Plus, I like how close the driving range, clubhouse, practice putting and first tee are to each other…makes keeping track of your group players easy.

I finally was able to hit my tee shot reasonably accurate Monday. The course is loaded with trees, OB and other hazards when you miss the fairway. Makes the layout much more enjoyable and get-able.

We’ll be back out to Western Hills CC on November 10th. I’m excited already. Thanks everyone that comes out GK Events (link to right upper corner of page). Put Western Hills CC on your list to play or consider joining :)

Played in group 1B on Monday with Johnny, Ron, and Steve. Great times! Event was well organized and pace of play was decent. Beautiful day and the course looked gorgeous!

Conditions are great. Greens were smooth, medium-fast, and accepted full shots well. I didn’t see many ball marks. Fairways were excellent, full coverage of lush kikuyu providing good lies all day. Rough was also in good condition; most was not too penal but there were some spots where the depth of the rough definitely impacted contact. I was in a few bunkers and they were good, although my escapes from them were not. White tee boxes were solid all day, no complaints.

I’d only played here one other time on a day where the sun never really penetrated the cloud cover. Sunny conditions brought it to life a bit more and I enjoyed it even more this time. The layout is solid yet unspectacular; lots of strong holes but very few that are especially memorable or exciting. The 1st and 18th holes are probably my two favorites, and it’s always fun to play a downhill par 3, which Western Hills has two. Definitely recommended right now.

This course is a pretty solid country club style course. Trees line most of the fairways and a lot of slight to moderate dog legs where there is a lot of risk and reward.
Tee boxes were in excellent shape and mostly flat-ish.
Bunkers. On the front 9, there were amazing. Soft fluffy white sand that makes a fun bunker game. The back 9 had some coarser darker thicker sand.
The rough was not bad, the first cut was great, outside that, it took a little to get the club through.
The fairways were great, the handful of times I was there. Country club style nice.
The greens rolled well, looked great to me.
The par 3's were a good challenge and well protected, even being shorter lengths.
I enjoyed it myself. Previous course knowledge would help tremendously, as there are some shots where you have to guess where to aim at and what trouble there is that you can't see.

Our final Private Course outing of 2024 went fantastic on 12/16. Thank everyone that came out to this one or the others I've organized this year.

Our final Private Course outing of 2024 went fantastic on 12/16. Thank everyone that came out to this one or the others I've organized this year.

I had a great time playing with GKer sparky14, Anthony and Ben. Saw a bunch of other GKers there and members of the Facebook Group – Southern California Golf Community, which I'm in.

Western Hills CC was in excellent shape.

Greens were fast, mostly smooth and holding shots. Man were they challenging and fun.

Fairways were lush, mostly firm with full coverage.

Rough was lush, cut low, just about an inch above fairway height (bringing all the false fronts into play – especially hole 7 – be long on approach on that hole!)

Tee boxes were lush, groomed and mostly level. The course just finished its tee box renovations to Holes 8 & 10. Great job.

Bunkers were inconsistant with some having fresher sand than others. Some soft with most firm.

As for the layout, its a fun very demanding, mature tree lined, hilly track. Missing the fairways almost always results in an obstructed next shot by an abundance of large assorted trees. Level lies are hard to come by and if you miss the green on approach there is high probability of a tough up & down. Once on the greens…. if you think its going to break, its going to break more, if you think that downhill put is fast, its faster. There are many of hard breaks combined with subtle breaks which always keep me guessing on my reads. Add to that what I call the "Hill Effect". Most holes out there are either going up or down hill creating some optical illusions to the untrained eye putting... OK can you tell the greens have tormented me in all 4 rounds I've played there?

As far as running an outing at Western Hills CC, I’ve already booked two more for 2025. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The parking, clubhouse, and close proximity to practice putting/driving range make it very easy to keep track of all your players. They have a cozy grill/café to grab a bite to eat before the rounds and very large banquet room should you have additional needs. Great people to work with.

Rode the blues this morning 12/18/23 as part of the GK/Golfmoose event teeing off around 11:15am and finishing around 4:25pm for a POP just over 5hrs. Successful event with 120 players under cloudy skies and perfect golf weather low 70s for a high with very little wind. Played with John, Mark and Steve really great group of guys. We had a great time today!

My first time on this private. Traditional tight at times treeline layout with some awesome doglegs on both nines. Would not call it target golf but you can't be crooked on any shots here and need to be on the correct side of the green complexes chipping and putting. Front nine favored more of a right to left tee ball and back nine had straighter treeline tee shots. All 3 par 3s I loved as they were all elevated where you could watch your shots hang forever. Only 3 par 5s and 3 par 3s on this layout. Only one water feature on the course and some creeks and OB on some holes. Huge homes line the front nine but are out of play.

Greens were in good shape. They looked like they might have received maintenance recently but putted and chipped beautiful. Most green complexes had undulations. Would rate the greens a solid 8/10.

Fairways were in decent to good shape. Rating them a 7/10. Some fairways had severe slopes right even in the middle of the fairway.

Tees were mostly level and lush. Only a couple of tees were not level Rated 7/10.

Was not in any bunkers but playing partners described them as hardpan and a couple of them looked like they had whiter new sand.

Rough was mostly uniform and just barely off the fairways easy to play from. Rated 7/10.

Awesome course to teach players to bend the ball both ways off the tee and practice distance control onto undulating green complexes. I would recommend playing here to anyone.

Played here today in group 1B of the GolfMoose/GK private club outing with Johnny, Gary, and Steve. Fun times! 11:00 shotgun but as the B group, we didn't tee off until around 11:15. POP was slow with waiting on all tees, including backups on par 3s. Total time on course was around 5:10. Mostly overcast skies but no wind and perfect temps all day. It sprinkled for about 10 minutes on our 9th hole.

Conditions are good, highlighted by speedy greens that are fun and challenging to putt. I'm thinking there's some grain or a certain direction that we never quite picked up on, because some putts were lightning fast and broke a lot, and others weren't quite as fast and didn't break much when they seemed like they would. Greens were firm but accepted full shots well and most wedge approaches spun back considerably. There was a little visual evidence of recent aeration and a tiny bit amount of sand on the greens, but I don't think either of those impacted putts at all. Fairways had good coverage but didn't always provide great lies. Rough wasn't too deep but enough to take spin off the ball and make you think. Blue tee boxes were mostly good. I was in a couple bunkers and they seemed pretty good. (My bunker play is so pathetic right now I have no business trying to blame the bunker for my results.)

This was my first time playing here. It's a solid, tough course but doesn't have too much "wow" factor. It probably didn't help that the sun was behind the clouds most of the day. It reminded me a bit of a "grown up" version of Candlewood CC. It had two fun downhill par 3s, but an abundance of par 4s in the same 390-410 yard range. Only 3 par 3s and 3 par 5s. Snack bar/restaurant staff was friendly, and my pre-round hot dog was extremely delicious. Fun day! Huge thanks to Johnny for everything!
