Played earlier this week as the first off. Still a little damp after the rain but no standing water. Fairways were in need of mowing but I'd imagine as the course dried up some this week they might have been able to get the mowers out there. I think if this is done the rating would go up a few notches. There are still some patchy areas out there but that seems to be the norm and there is plenty of good areas (if it can get mowed).

Greens were good. I didn't putt really well so I'm not letting that influence my rating. I thought the front 9 greens were quicker than the back 9 greens. They rolled well, pretty smooth with not many unrepaired ball marks from what I saw.

With the rain the rough was up but still not too bad but there was a lot more grass in the native areas. For those that try to cut the corner on 11 you won't be getting any kicks off the hill side.

Sand was a little damp but still a good amount of sand in the bunkers. They just need to be attended to.

Tee box are ok. You'll find a spot to tee off from but some are a little uneven. Tee box 10 needs to be addressed thou, that one is really uneven.

For the price its good. I'll probably hold off until after the rains so they can get the proper maintenance done on the course. If you've seen this place in the past you know how brown it can get so sights of green are a welcome.

Played on Friday 1/25 with Famed02, his son Andy.drew621 and Ed's brother. Awesome San Diego Chamber of Commerce weather. Offered to tee off early but SOMEONE was at the bar so we teed off on time, finished in about 4 1/2 hours, with some hold ups on the par 3s.

Some nice elevated tees on some holes, decent par 3s, and while some of the fairways were side by side, not a lot of crossing into the parallel fairway unless you really went sideways. Exceed my expectations and I had a really great time.

Fairways were nice, with plenty of coverage and no thin areas. Bunkers were semi-fluffy (and VERY PUTTABLE!). Greens were very soft (like deep ball craters), but ran smooth and nicely maintained.

Loved the course and had a blast. Some nice open fairways with some challenging green complexes.

Military affiliated golf course, so of course it's a pretty basic course as far as frills are concerned.

It's a beautiful location, the club house has a great view and because the weather was absolutely amazing, the patio was a great place to hang out.

The fairways were in decent shape and as expected, I was in California so I hit into the sand traps quite a bit. They were in good shape as well :-)

The greens were pretty beat up, but were rolling at a fair speed.

The golf carts have a basic GPS telling you the distance to each color flag and as long as you can see the flag, you are good. The carts don't have coolers or USB charges, so come prepared.

If you hit far left or right, there is a good chance that your ball is gone. There was some really deep bushes (can't remember the name), but if you hit in there, BALL IS GONE.

Saw the cart girl a couple times.

The food in the club house was delicious and reasonably priced. They have some really good local beers on tap.

That's it. Park, golf, drink beer and eat food. Questions???

Played a couple of times this week and was first off and pace was awesome at a little over 3 hours both times. There is a big military tourney this weekend (and Sea n Air) and thought the conditions would be good and they are. Greens are really good and faster than I remember them being. Even that early in the morning I still ran quite a few putts past the hole. Don't get me wrong these are not Augusta fast but I guess playing here I remember you could be real aggressive with putts and I realized I just couldn't be as aggressive as I was in the past. There were still ball marks to deal with and chances are you'll probably end up having to fixing them on quite a handful of putts. Both days there were workers out there early getting water on the greens.

Fairways and rough are good. There are some not so good areas and some really good areas. There are some spots in the rough where the ball just really sets down making for a challenging shot and other lies where it never even impacted my decision on club selection.

Bunkers were great. Was in a few and both had a good amount of sand in them. I really like the thump it made when hitting out of them. Both of these were greenside bunkers. Fairway bunkers looked a little firmer but don't quote me on that.

Staff was great. I pay the civilian rate and I think its worth the fee of $34 walking. It's a big property and a long walk but its pretty flat.

Played a twilight round today and conditions are pretty much the same but the greens had been punched. The holes are not the micro holes or as big as I’ve seen but they are probably about the size of a pencil. It definitely impacted putts along with the ball marks, footprints, etc.

Like I said everything else is pretty consistent with the last review except it’s probably a little drier than last time. Overall the conditions won’t wow you but I’d certainly wait a couple of weeks until the greens are healed.

To follow up on my review from a couple of weeks ago I'm happy to report the punching on the greens has healed however and they are pretty good. There are a couple of bare spots (front of 7 comes to mind) where they have punch because that part of the green is not good. They rolled pretty great actually. Sadly as I expected there are many greens that have unrepaired ball marks and some actually look like a teenage boys face. Which is a shame because these greens would be really superb if golfers would take a little better care of the course. I think the practice green is in really fantastic shape so if you wanted to work on your putting this would be a good place to go.

Also there were a couple of maintenance workers out there putting sand in some of the bunkers so they were playing as ground under repair. It's good to see a course adding sand rather than just letting the bunkers go and becoming hard panned.

Everything else is pretty much the same as my last review. Despite all this I paid $34 as a civilian to walk and I think this is a great price (even better if you are military). It's good walk and a challenging course. I look forward to getting back out there soon.

Was paired up with another guy this morning first off and I could tell he didn't want to wait around so I told him to go ahead of me (I was walking). Boy I'm glad I did because he zipped around. I was on the 9th tee box and could see him in the fairway on the 13th hole. I played in 2:45, he must have been done in 2 wow. Overall I was impressed with the color of the fairways. They were a lot greener than I was expecting but every fairway does have some rough parts. You'll find some dead areas in just about every fairway but for the other good part the grass is fantastic. I guess I always remember a couple of years ago when there was a water shortage and how dry and brown everything was so its nice to see a lot of green grass covering the fairways. They were also cut to a nice height. I really thought this was the highlight of the course. Rough is typical. Not that thick, bare, patchy, etc. Sand was pretty good. Found a couple of greenside bunkers and able to really dig into the sand and make some good shots out of there. Tee boxes are typical. Par 3s are little more wear than you'd like to see but still room to find a place to tee it up. Greens still show signs of punching and a tad too much sand for me. Still rolled decent but there were quite a few unrepaired ball marks on most greens. I'd say give it a couple of weeks before the greens have really healed.

Played Tuesday and agree 100% with the previous review. However I also played on Thursday and they were in the process of punching the fairways. It actually looked like some were punched the day before. The holes are a little smaller than what I remember and some that looked like they were punched the day before looks like the are already filling in. Generally not to bad but there seems to be more bare spots popping up.

Greens were also punched but with the thin lines that look like the size of a kitchen knife. They rolled really good though. I don’t think this affected any putts.

Sand was great. Just raked that morning and plenty of sand in the bunkers.

Rough is spotty. There was one ball hit in the rough and we had trouble finding it but generally your not going to be penalized too much.

I’d probably give it a couple of weeks to heal before heading out there.

Played Admiral Baker north Monday morning. Cost has gone up for non-military players to $51 with a cart, a little steep for this course. Check in was less than stellar with a counter person who said all of three words to me, not looking for a hug or anything but at least be thankful I am spending my money at your course.

Starter was friendly and got us out 15 minutes early. Course didn’t seem too busy in the early AM. Everything looked good from the first tee. Tee box was nice and fairway was green, not lush but playable. First green was smooth but a little slow for my liking. Saw a lot of repaired ball marks.

Course was in about same condition all the way through 18. Nothing to complain about but nothing to brag about either. Was in a couple of green side bunkers and they were very playable. Probably better than most bunkers in San Diego.

Pace of play was great in under 4 hours. All in all, still a fun course and decent conditions. Price may keep me from coming back soon.
