11/6 using the courses"Palm card" 6 weekday rounds for $199--had 852 tee time arrived a little before 8 due to excellent traffic, but Henry, the super starter gave us the option of going off immediately to get out ahead of a 10 group tourney--best move ever--315 POP-with absolutely no one around. Fairways are cut rather short giving extra roll while still providing nice cushion and good lies. Rough is present along fairways with varying length and thickness--much more of a factor around the greens. Tees are cut down with mostly good cover and level. Bunkers are inconsistent--greenside mostly have adequate sand except for right front on #11 which was thin with hard pan. The gaping giant fairway bunker on #4 has very soft sand and a large back lip--yes its penal. Fairway right side of #15 is nice and firm much better chance for a good strike with some carry. Greens are fully recovered rolled smoothly for the most part at medium fast speed which were mostly consistent through the round. Ball mark repair remains an issue as some are ignored and many are poorly attended to. Large greens with really fun pin placements generally close to the perimeters today. Staff members are friendly and golfer oriented.

Enjoyed a pleasant round with GKer Itslikeimsayin at 11:16 am on Saturday, 10/28/17, on a warm sunny day with much less of the ocean breezes I’m used to seeing at AW. The course was surprisingly empty for a Saturday morning, and we went out behind several twosomes, trailing a few foursomes. We breezed at our own pace thru the first seven holes, but caught the train on the eighth tee and waited frequently thereafter – after a sub-2-hr front, we finished in just over 4 hours.

Greens were aerated about 2.5 weeks ago and are pretty well healed – there’s still some minor evidence of punching but in general they were fairly soft, accepted shots easily, and rolled with little bumpiness at medium speed. Most of the greens showed quite a few old ballmarks. Fairways were short and tight and gave good lies; we saw scattered areas where the fairways retained a lot of moisture from watering. Rough was generally pretty short unless you got well off line; in some of those areas we saw some muddy/sloppy areas. Tees were level and could use a mowing; par-3s and shorter 4s had a few scattered divots, and few tees had divot mix boxes. Sand is grainy and fairly heavy, especially early when it’s still pretty moist.

There’s a divot mix refill rack at the turn (up near the ball machine; the rack on the 10th tee was empty). Mark had a good and bad experience with his breakfast burrito. No GPS, but the course features both colored distance stakes, Kirby markers along the fairways, and some sprinklers are marked. Saw the cart girl 3 times, and a marshal came by to keep us updated on efforts to improve pace.

I like this course a lot and try to get down here frequently. Recommended.

Played out here with dconnally today at 11:16 (TeeOff.com "Deal" time minus 20% promo code). Got there pretty early and I had a delicious breakfast burrito while David hit a small bucket. Employees were all really friendly. We knew going in the greens were aerated about two and a half weeks ago, but we figured that was sufficient time for them to heal. The practice green still showed lots of visible holes, but it didn't seem to affect putts. Then the greens on the course seemed to be even more healed, with barely any evidence of aeration. Weather was great and POP was, too, for the first seven holes. It wasn't very busy and most of the course was twosomes reluctant to join up into foursomes. We played the front in about 1:45 and the back in a little under 2:30, for a 4:10-4:15 total. After having a foursome behind us on the front, a twosome caught up to us on 14 and we invited them to join us, which they did.

Conditions are really nice. Greens varied between medium speed and medium-fast, seemingly getting faster later in the day. They were soft and full shots stopped very quickly, or even backed up a bit. Fairways had great coverage and are fast and firm...lies were a little tight as a result. Rough wasn't too deep, maybe two inches at the most and provided good lies. I was in one fairway bunker and it was good. Tee boxes were good, although maybe a little tilted on a couple holes.

This was my second time here. It's weird because I really like lots of holes out here, but as a whole, the course just isn't that compelling to me. I think it's really a great example of how much residential courses can be hindered by being surrounded by houses. Even though there are quite a few fun holes, I feel the course lacks character. I'm sure I'll be back, though. (I'd much rather play Marine Memorial if in this specific region.)

10/9 teeing off as a 2 some at 715 to get a round in before a 1230 shotgun and to get on this course before maintenance which starts 10/10--Fast 3 hour POP with really no waiting and being ruthlessly pursued by a very fast and apparently proficient 4 some--we were not goofing off but did encounter the errant shot and it does take time to properly rake the bunkers--I must have hit at least 8 today--so I was the slow one.
Fairways have good cover. Rough cut fairly short with some longer thicker patches near the greens. Tees were shaggy. Bunkers were groomed but extremely wet--so was dealing with heavy sand over and over.
Greens were good smooth medium fast--but after tomorrow probably will take 2 weeks or so to be back to today's condition.
Staff is top notch and very golfer oriented.
Course offers a "Palm Card" 6 rounds for $199(weekdays)--about $34 a round with 10 buckets of range balls as well and valid for a year.

Aeration alert--greens scheduled to be punched 10/10 and 10/11!! 10/2 using golf moose voucher with a $25 gift certificate from a GK play on a very pleasant autumn am. Fairways have good cover overall but they were recently de-thatched leaving some grooves that are mostly healed. Lies were good but did have the potential for something awkward. Turf provides good cushion while giving a little extra roll--players need to be more attentive to using the sand for the divots. Rough is present but short along the fairways--longer and juicier around the greens. Course is getting ample water. Tees are level and have been recently de-thatched as well. Bunkers were well groomed and have deep soft but heavy sand requiring an aggressive committed swing. Some were still wet from overnight watering. Greens are rather firm rolling at medium fast speed--we went out ahead of a men's club team match play event so the pin placements today were of definite tournament quality on some testy humps and edges of slopes that made for a frustrating round as both speed and line had to be precise. Today the course defended itself quite well thank you. The type of grass on the greens is cut close and is quite fine bladed requiring careful attention to ball mark repair--many unattended and many marginally fixed. POP about 345--customer service is SO golfer oriented and Henry the starter facilitated our start to go out head of the tourney.

Was headed down to North County today (Friday) so I decided to get in an early round at Arrowood, great call. This Ted Robinson gem is a bit off the beaten path but I'm sure the locals like it like that. A gorgeous variety of ESA lined holes thru the Oceanside 'hood' that's well maintained tee to green, although the bunkers are quite deep (by design) and inconsistent (clay bottoms, watch it). Greens, however, were consistent and quick, just a pleasure to putt on (was told a 10.5 roll but seemed faster). Bermuda fairways are full and even, rough can be brutal if you squirt one too far away from your target. A layout that you really need to get out and play. Not overly difficult as most fairways have more than enough room for a semi-wayward tee ball, but if you're a sprayer then you'll be taking a lot of drops next to those red-green stakes. Recommended, for sure. With a $55 mid-week senior rate (60+), I just wish it was closer to my home in Redondo. Played a casual two-ball in a 3:45 PoP well behind the foursome of locals ahead of us. Might have to retire down here someday :-)

Played on Monday AM, first time in 3 years. We had a 2 for $80 coupon. Very friendly starter and Pro shop staff. Practice area: good driving range but hitting off mats only today. Good putting green and a chipping green. Greens: holding, medium to fast speed but lots of old marks. Fairways: almost recovered from being "punched", I did have a few balls end up in old punch marks but they should be fully healed within a week or so. Forgot how wide the fairway are, quite generous. Rough: freshly cut, 1-3" high. Traps: raked but firm. The course is quite challenging. Lots of shots to elevated greens. POP: just over 4 hours for our foursome. They have a 6 rounds for $199 special, Monday thru Friday includes cart, good for one year. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Tee time Saturday 8/26 @ 12.36 using golfsoutherncal.com voucher 2 for $84 and pitcher of beer. Arrived about 15 minutes before tee time (#$%^ traffic) and was told running about 1/2 hour behind. Normally would have been a little upset, but welcomed the delay so had time to warm up.
First time playing this course. Played with my son and 2 of his friends. I played blue, they played blacks. Course was in overall great condition. A few of the tee boxes were a little beat up, even a few of the par 4s, but always found an acceptable place to hit from. Fairways and first cut of rough had excellent coverage. Great lies all day. Bunkers were hit or miss, mix of firm/packed sand and some with nice fluffy sand. Greens were a little disappointing due to so many unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. They even have signs on a lot of holes reminding golfers to fix their marks and how to do it correctly-obviously not too many people read them.
Pace of play was a little over 4.5 hours.
I really enjoyed this course. Wasn't quite as tight as I expected. A few holes you better be really straight on, but a lot of landing areas are pretty generous. From the blues, it's not all that long, so you don't need driver every hole. I really had to think about club selection and where best to put the ball. Not target golf, but more than one option off the tee.
I wish this course was closer and 5 south traffic wasn't so bad-I'd definitely play here more. $42 per player including pitcher of beer was a steal. I'll be back.

Played Friday with a Golf Moose voucher at 7AM. Pace of play was fast, less than 4 hours. Overall, course is in great shape for the value. My only complaints: traps were wet for the first hour (spent too much time in them), a few tee boxes were a little off level, and range balls are rock hard. Other than that, no complaints as overall conditions are great including greens (ball marks repaired - thank you!!!!).

Only saw the drink cart once on 16, but passed. If you fill out the customer service survey, you earned a free drink at the clubhouse. Not bad! Still a great value in North County.
