I played here in the men's club on Wednesday morning. The course is good shape, but getting ready to aerate next week. The greens were being watered between groups, which made judging speed tricky. I'd like them to water some other time so that the greens were of uniform speed. And I don't care for the new waste area on #13, where they apparently can't grow grass. Big hitters playing from the proper tees probably can't clear it, and can't reach the green in two if they come up short of it, so the waste area takes a lot of the fun out of it. On the other hand, I don't worry about it, and if I hit into it I'll be happy I hit it that far, and hope I have a decent enough lie to hit out of it.

Have not played here since 2013, so was looking forward to my return. Always enjoy playing here, but just never seem to make it down the coast. Rocky in the pro shop was great, as we got out as a twosome, second off, following another twosome. Great pace of play, just under 2 1/2 hours.

The course was in nice shape, and while the greens did not look all that great, they were faster than they appeared. Some a bit bumpy, but overall rolled well. Fairways were green and had plenty of coverage. Only in one bunker, which had not been raked, but had plenty of sand. Rough and tee boxes were fine.

It was beautiful this morning, clear, warm, no wind, almost ideal. While I did not play very well, still had a great time and enjoyed coming back to Arrowood

2/24 playing the blues 6292-70.5/131 using UnderPar $79 2some on a crisp. sunny, pleasant 845 tee off with about a club breeze on the final 5 holes. Fairly busy Friday POP 4 1/2 hours with some waiting on the par 3s. Fairways are green good cover--no evidence of excess water--good cushion and firm enough to give some helpful roll #1 had a lot of unsanded divots but that was the exception. Rough is present along fairways and more abundant and juicy around the greens--playable but required full attention and acceleration through the shot.
Bunkers have deep heavy sand most appear to have been recently groomed with no residule water issues. I found a fairway bunker on 1 on the left located between 1 and 10 in the tree line--sand here was firm enough to let me hit a PW over the 6 foot lip back out into the fairway only to find the right greenside bunker on my 3rd shot. Decent lie but heavier sand --out to 5 feet--missed the putt. Bunkers have heavy sand that needs extra attention when raked--for the most part the golfers here were doing a pretty good job.
Tees were lush level and well maintained.
Greens look a little blotchy but were smooth medium fast generally firm but receptive to most mid to short iron approach shots but tending to roll out on chips and pitches. Had a good day on the greens 0 3 putts and aside from #1 never missed another inside of 6 feet. Big greens lot of undulation and some wicked pin placements often near or on the hump--on many of the greens the back portion slopes slightly away so balls getting to the hole tend to keep going.
Friendly staff--drink cart around 3-4 times.
Overall course is in really good shape and has a layout that is varied enough and well defended by the difficulty of the greens.

Started the new year at Arrowood, one of my favorites in SD County, at 1028am on a cool, partly sunny Sunday with wind picking up in the afternoon – thanks to GKer abbacat for responding to my post to play here. We joined an amiable single escaping the Denver snow and had a relaxed round in about 4.5 hr – we rarely pushed the foursome ahead of us and tried to keep ahead of the foursome behind, while looking for our many errant, topped, and chunked shots. Paul from Denver was coming off rotator cuff problems, and with the wet conditions I shouldn’t have let him talk me into playing the Black/Blue combo tees (6,509/71.4/133), as I was frequently left with hybrids or more into some of these holes with the Black tees, like 1, 4, 16, and 17. Although abbacat parred #16 for the first time (!!), I have yet to do that, laying up from 225 (it’s 465 from the Black!!) and hitting a weak pitch over the water. Then I had a 5-iron into the wind over the lake on #18 - yikes!! And I think Paul went thru two or three sleeves of balls with some serious spraying. Overall the course was in good shape considering the rain of the previous couple of days – the course drained fairly well, except for a few lower holes and those on the back where topography funneled runoff down the fairways (#s 1, 2, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 16). Frankly, I was surprised that carts were unrestricted today, as in some cases there was enough water on the fairways to be in danger of significant damage from cart tracks. But it was a welcome policy today for seniors with old knees! Greens were medium-firm, medium-fast, and held shots. We actually ran into standing water on at least one green (#5) – we mentioned this to a snooty cart girl, who indicated that staff was aware of that problem. Fairways were dormant but coverage was generally OK; ubiquitous worm castings were everywhere in fairways and short-trimmed rough as a result of the rain and wet conditions, so the ball always had ‘mud’ on it – fairways were very wet in areas where topography funneled water across them. Tees were mostly shaggy and soft, giving uncertain footing. Sand had actually been machine-raked in some bunkers but was generally very wet, with standing water occasionally encountered. The large waste area on 13 is hopefully a work in progress. The lie found here is currently rock-hard base with lots of gravel imbedded – use your sacrificial club only! There are a few elevated ‘islands’ in the waste area to give it some definition and interest, which may or may not be turfed in the future, but the current state is ugly and dangerous – hopefully, the course will import some good coarse sand and give that area some better playability. It begins at about 250 COG and ends about 200 COG, so keep that in mind off the tee. There’s no GPS or other warning about this area – it’s just a brown line at the end of the driving area off the tee for first-time players. Lots of bird poop around and on greens with water hazards – it’s that time of year. The ugly bird fence on #18 green was there, but the green was definitely affected. Staff says the fence doesn’t do any good – the birds just fly over it! I like this layout and conditions are generally good – even with the wet conditions we enjoyed our round. Still recommended.

I played the first round of the New Year yesterday with Dconnally. We were paired with a very nice guy visiting from Denver and his daughter, who was along for the ride.

First the bad part - the weather was gorgeous but unfortunately, the course doesn’t have good drainage from the recent rain. I don’t mean a few wet spots; I mean the fairways on the front nine were completely soaked. We were very surprised that they allowed carts on the fairways. The water had brought up what David said was likely worm residue all over the fairways so we were basically hitting from water and mud. The back nine wasn’t as bad, but we still had to clean the ball after every shot. As expected, the bunkers were all mud with a lot of puddles.

Now the good part. I love this course. It has so many fun holes. The tee boxes were all level and the greens were great shape. Although the conditions made the round a lot more challenging, I did manage to par #16- the first time ever not going in the water. A great way to start the New Year. I know I’ll be back again – but when it’s dry!

Played 36 with 140ver, Pat & Tom in a little over 8 hours total. We all had different vouchers and played the Blues (70.5/131/6292) in wet, sometimes drizzling, overcast conditions. My 1st time playing here, I enjoyed the rolling hills and combination of holes that made up this layout. I can see the high slope rating, you rarely have a level shot with numerous blind shots over hills off the tee. The tees were okay, adequate coverage with only the par 3's needing divot attention. The dormant fairways were not lush but usually playable. The rough was more hit and miss. Usually thin with patches of hardpan. The sand traps were well maintained before the rain with an adequate amount of nice sand. The greens were generally good. They rolled well @ medium speed and were receptive to holding iron shots. A few had bare patches around the outer edges that rarely would come into play. This would be a very challenging course to walk. constantly up/down hills and several tees are a long ways from the last green. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered... the pro shop, the starter and the ever present player assistant who was out roaming the course. Recommended = yes.

Played Saturday 10/8, Men's club monthly tourney. Course was in good shape. Tee boxes were OK, not many divots, fairly flat. Fairways were decent, closely mowed and had good run, decent lie, a few had thins spots here and there. Rough was about 3 inches, and playable.Bunkers were good sand in them. Greens were not punched yet, but had a few ball marks on everyone. I give it a 6. 4 hr POP Customer service was great from the friendly starter to the front desk. Greeted us like they wanted us there. If you play there look for an Elderly gentleman, one of the player assistants. We joked with the starter about another tourney ahead of us as to what to expect on POP. He pointed to the gentleman and said " Don't worry "the Hammer" will be out there moving things along, Don't piss him off?" lol.

I played Arrowood on Saturday 9/17/16 with a tee time of 1030 we finished in around 4:15 minutes with no one in front of us (indicating we could have finished sooner if we so desired). The practice green was nice and the driving range had alot of extra balls left around from the early birds that had to abandon them in order to make their tee time. I walked the course and I would say this course is walk-able but difficult. There are a few sections where you are traversing around a canyon to get to the next hole and some elevations changes here and there to increase the difficulty. The greens are very soft and I was wearing non metal (plastic) spikes and where ever I stood made little marks in the green. Compound that with everyone on the course and the greens were bumpy but otherwise in good condition with minimal ball marks and no bare spots. The fairways are very wide and allow for a tee shot that might be offline to still be playable. Overall I would say they are a little on the thin side but still very good. There is still a large swath of the fairway that is GUR on the only par 5 on the back 9 (number 13). The rough was also thin and had seen a lot of cart traffic. There was a couple of times where it looked like a cart got stuck in a muddy patch because there are some really wet parts in the rough. The bunkers were easily the worst part about this place. I dont know if they are in the middle of resigning or fixing them them or something but a lot of them had standing water in them. The others did not appear to be regularly tilled by some sort of machine or even a rake and were very hard and compacted. I really like this course the fairways are wide and the greens are large and reward lag putting. I would love to play this course again but I should mention that I played with my Dad and he said that he would not play this course again and if he did he wanted to label every bunker as GUR.

Played today with GK’er iluv2golflady. We had an amazing deal thanks to Golf Moose and a GK gift certificate. When I made the tee time about 2 weeks ago, I asked specifically about any scheduled maintenance and was told that it’s in great shape and nothing is being done for a few more weeks…but it wasn't exactly so... About half of the fairways are recovering from recent work, many were squishy wet, #13 has an ENORMOUS area of GUR, with all turf stripped away to rock hard dirt (of course I landed in it).Most of the greens rolled fast and fairly true, despite the terrible amount of scars and newer marks. A few of the greens were also squishy and # 9 had a 3 ft wide puddle near the back edge. The bunkers were pretty much all mud and some had good sized puddles. On the bright side, the other half of the fairways were in really good shape, the tee boxes were all level and lush, rough was mostly short and manageable, POP was good at 4:15, all staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. We still had a very fun day. I enjoy this course and hope next time the info is more accurate.
